Would imagine that no one is using the AH to buy during a beta.

It was in full swing last beta.

I definitely need to find a good guide to this - there is so much going on between the classes (combat), crafting, etc...

Check out the OP. There's videos on each of the primary systems.

I wish I could get some comfort with the controls. I am so spoiled by relying on my G600 in other games, and each class is so different combo wise that I just can't get a feeling of comfort with it.

I tried plugging in my crappy logitech gamepad but that felt too floaty.

I finally found the spot where you can rebind keys, and started to play around with rebinding some of the action keys to the mouse but at first pass that didn't feel natural either.

I'm thinking this game more than others I'm going to have focus on just one toon.

Each class definitely plays different in the way they have their combos set up. Like i cant get the Sorc to work for me at all! It's embarrasing, but the Beserker? I'll devour the world and spin on through to Valhalla with him . I'm trying the Ranger this time around as well and her combos feel good for me.

I found I did well with the ranger as well.

My goal is simple though. Find some ranged class that I can sort of suck less at then the other and join a large zerg guild that doesn't care that I have no skill.

I know, I know, I set the bar high.

+1

What guild is everyone going to join?

No clue... the guys i was going to join didnt show up, and i'm having issues making money to even start up one of my own to play with in CBT2.

I enjoyed the beta, I'm going to get one of the preorder packs. I think I'm going to save the rest till launch. I had a nice little wood farm thing going with my workers and got to tamer lvl 22 and just tamed my own horse. I think I would have enjoyed something with a little more range. Are there any mid range classes that go in and out of melee range for combat?

Sorceress sort of does that, I think?

Also, the four as yet unreleased classes (the ninjas and samurai) seem to sort of do that, from videos. (I did play around with the Blader on the Russian version of the game, but I barely hit level 10, so I didn't really get a feel for it myself.)

Sorc definitely fits the bill...

Blader and Ninja have bows and throwing weapons for their off hand weapon so while part of the kit not the main damage dealing piece.

Wow, the interface is clunky as hell and the overall game lacks a ton of polish. I think there is something fun here under it all but getting through that control scheme is going to be tough. I did try a gamepad but that seemed worse. Hold the same button to move backward and attack to charge a fireball what?? Its counter intuitive. Mapping function buttons to my mmo mouse helped some but it constantly feels like i am barely in control.

Hehe, I was right there with you, but something with my berserker clicked right around level 15, and for that class at least some of the combos are starting to feel ok and that was with just saying the heck with it and just forcing myself to use the default function keys. I tried to map the function keys to my mouse, but you use them so much it quickly started to feel more carpal inducing than the keyboard keys.

But, the fugly UI, lack of QoL and the absence of a fashion wars elements will keep this purely as a change of pace game for me from GW2. But, with it being B2P, I still feel good about being able to get my monies worth.

level 16 you get the quest that gives you your first black spirit power ability. It's very powerful and can change the tone of the way your class plays.

Besides the future Media, Valencia and the new Elven and Dwarf expansions, can we expect more land to be added or is this what the mapsize will eventually be like?

Many areas in the game are still undiscovered; South of Calpheon, Mediah, and Valencia, and north of Valencia are covered in fog in the map. These areas will be developed, not merely by adding new regions, monsters, or items, but by adding something that can change play patterns of users. In the case of Valencia Part III, for example, new regions will be added but they are mostly maritime, which enable new features such as maritime trade, maritime gathering, and so on. It will be completely different from ordinary combat-centric updates.

I was going to apply over at Grievance to be in their BDO guild, but it looks like they've got a wait list and are only looking for serious members who can commit to being active. Understandably so, with BDO's costs to adding and keeping guild members... plus, a cap at 100 members.

I'd hate to miss out on guild stuff because I'm not a hardcore player. :/

I suspect casual play will no be terribly viable, or will not be anything beyond an exercise in frustration and limitations in a game like this, one of the reasons I have not gone in yet myself.

Only in the fact the primary end game focus is Guild v Guild warfare. You can actually do pretty much anything solo except taking down the bosses. Which can be done with pickup groups, but some of the primary high end farming areas and world bosses will most likely be camped by other guilds. Things to do would leveling your character to max. There's the soft max of 50, but there's no actual cap. The awakenings for your classes wont even be in game for a month or so after launch. There's also the crafting/trading system which compared to other games like SWG isn't as complicated or deep, but it's extremely grand in scale and scope.

I am coming at this rather casual.

While I know playing every night for a couple hours is not some people's definition of casual it certainly doesn't make the hardcore cut.

I will make an effort to find a home but I am in no rush to get to the top.

The 100 person guild cap may make it tough for people like me but we will see.

So unless someone has a guild ready to take a bunch of semi/casual folks in should we decide to pick a server?

They're sticking with the 2 they had for the last beta. My plan was to pay attention to chat while leveling and check the forums based on the server unless pointed to one.

I have no server preference.

Heck I am so undecided about what I am doing in this game I changed my name reservation today.

I now have the family name Mount and reserved Rushmore for my first name. Yes I know but I liked that better than what I had before.

I too am likely going to be the casualest of casual players here, but I would like to play on the same server as other GWJers either way. Someone who cares should post their choice before Sunday, and then we can all just follow suit.

Post fun pictures so those not playing can see what is happening!

But of course!

As for server name i suggest we use Orwen. From reading reddit it seems a lot of the asshole guilds are planning on going Eldain.

Sounds like as good a reason as any. I'll use that one unless someone else says otherwise.

Wait what?

This has to be a typo, surely one of the server names is not named after our old mothballed LoTRO/GW2 guild?

*Edit*

I had to look it up: Edan. I also found this:

NA looks adopting same configuration:

Edan = Main, PvP oriented, Hardcore

Orwen = RP, PvE oriented, casual"

Hmmm.......while I don't think I am an awesome PVP player isn't that the point of this game.

Last time I played a PVP game that people refused to PVP in it sucked.

Worried the Orwen crowd will fall into that trap.

Heck I want to make a berserker just so I can toss afk fishermen into the water.

This makes me giggle.

I'll try and read up on what the configurations mean.
