Sounds like for me it might be a game I pick up to level and quit at end game since I don't get into PVP either. The beta wasn't bad, but didn't sell me on the game completely. I figure I will wait and see if I can score a beta key like I did for the first beta.
Cool, it looks like the game is launching March 3rd.
Woot!
Thanks to you and ran.

I'm shocked and appalled!
Haha yeah. I have not been able to login successfully yet to reserve a name. The amount of anger on the forum thread is funny. People get really bent on these made up names that are often from fantasy literature, movies, or historical.
So hard to have the infrastructure in place to handle the traffic they need for such a small window without wasting so much money.

No kidding. As someone who works in that world, I sympathize with the expectation that things like this should just work, but cannot help but laugh when people are surprised that they do not.
(Not to mention when companies that don't have names like like Blizzard, Valve, Microsoft, etc, even bother to make claims that something like this will work flawlessly. It's theoretically possible, but extremely unlikely unless you have exceptionally good technical teams and effectively unlimited resources to work with.)
Anyway, I got my family name -- not that there's much competition for "zeroKFE" -- but didn't come close to my desired character name. Oh well!
Yeah I work in the business too and while virtualization technologies have done a lot to allow quick ramp up and and ramp down of some resources you still need the underlying metal. On top of all that your pipe is only so big and that is not as easy to quickly change.
What amazes me even more is people getting mad because somebody took such common names.
I have been playing these games since before MMOs and the internet back in MUD dial up into the service on my 300 baud and even then it would be silly to think you should and could be Arthur Pendragon on every MUD you ever wanted to play.
I am now registered, I think anyway, as Maladen Blackmoon in North America. My hesitation is because on my account details page as the small print suggested I would see what I have reserved but there is nothing.
I love all the forum posts of people being mad they had to preorder to reserve a name.
Well, it is a buy to play game here people, so yeah they're gonna charge you for the ability to select your stupid name. Everyone wants sh*t for free. Jeez.
I think if you reload the reservation page you'll see what you've selected -- it does for me, at least.
And yeah, I generally just accept that I'll just be prefixing any character's name with "Zero_" or something like that; makes it easier when playing on alts with friends, anyway. Of course, this game presents a unique challenge since the family name concept handles the "easy identification of who is actually playing" question quite well, so I'll just have to use weird antiquated names or something.
I do think it was an odd decision to make first and family name both have to be unique.
Clearly with a unique family name you could have allowed the first name to be anything.

Right?
The explanation that makes the most sense to me would be that perhaps the family name concept was a relatively late add to the design, and for various reasons it would have been too much of a pain in the ass to rework their database design to work with a keys that were a pairing of the two, or something like that.
That, or they were just really lazy and said f*ck it, it's marginally easier to design this way, so who cares.
Welp I reserved Einbjorn as my family name... seems the web page hung when I was trying for a character name... oh well... got the family name in before work at least

That actually probably means your name is not available -- from what I could see in the inspector, their application wasn't properly reporting the failure of that check to the user, and thus it would just seem like clicking the button did nothing.
If you put in something far more you unique, you should get the same sort of confirmation dialog you got when you chose your family name.
Man I keep striking out on CBT2 keys. As early as I quit playing Blade and Soul, I am hesitant to drop money on Black Desert Online.
I pulled the trigger on the 30 option. Plan on it being my distraction game when I need a break from GW2.
Good to see you on the BDO train.
So ranalin, how much will I be missing in not having a pet the first week? (Cash shop is opening a week after launch.) From my research, it looks like AOE looting comes from the pets. I really can't stand single corpse looting, so should I try and convince the wife I need to upgrade to the $50 dollar option, or do you think I can just power through and wait and buy a pet when the shop opens.
Also, one other thing that I'm unclear about. Are there in game avenues for earning outfits/pets and other cosmetics, even if it is just a currency exchange method a la, GW2, or are said cosmetics only available via a credit card?
What are the death penalty and the pvp loot system like? Most of the information from google looks to be probably out of date.
I'm going to play this beta thing. Let me know if there is stuff to do teamed up!
What class is everyone going to play? I'm thinking of starting with a Sorceress, and hope to have enough playtime in the CBT2 to try out a few more classes. How many levels does it take to get a good feel for a class?
I take it there is no support/healing class? I can't find any good info about all the classes so far, anyone know a good resource?
