Fabulous Final Fantasy Franchise Discussion Catch-all

I said it before, but my expectation is that, once they're all released on PC, they're going to get a release date slated for consoles. It's easier to drip-feed a release on PC since you don't have to deal with so many different qualification processes. Once they're all done on PC and can be submitted to Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo at once, they'll be better positioned to determine a release date.

I have literally nothing to add to the discussion, I just felt like saying I want the pixel remakes and I like Final Fantasy and I'm playing Final Fantasy 12 again because I like it.

I’ve been getting the itch to replay FFX again. Can’t imagine when I’ll get the time to do so, but if/when I do I might put the time in to take out the dark Aeons this time.

I got sidetracked at end game and still need to finish X from months ago for the first time

I started back up with FFXIV a few weeks ago; finished Heavensward, and working towards Stormblood. I also started XII again recently; I think other than Lightning Returns, it’s the only mainline FF game I haven’t beaten.

And yeah, I’m certainly interested in picking up the Pixel remasters, but I’m still slightly annoyed that Square isn’t doing any sort of make-good for those of us who have owned the original versions on Steam for a long time already.

Yeah, it's a very unsurprising Square-dick move.

Tomorrow the early access period for Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker starts. Like the previous expansions, it marks the release of a brand new Final Fantasy, with new characters to love and hate, places to explore, and epic dungeons and bosses to overcome. Unlike the previous expansions, it will mark the end of overarching storyline they've been building ever since the initial release of FF14 back in 2010. While the base game and each expansion has a self-contained narrative, they've all been building to a cosmic confrontation and conclusion that has the player base frothing with anticipation. Like a good show reaching its final season, the world building and character work are all coming to a head.

It's all got me feeling a bit emotional, to the point where even a silly meme about saying goodbye to the most recent expansion hit me harder than it had any right to. Shadowbringers was one of the best RPG stories in recent years, and a lot of the payoffs were built directly off of what came before it. The same woman who lead the writing on Shadowbringers is doing the same for Endwalker, so I'm optimistic they'll stick the landing for this one.

It wouldn't be Final Fantasy if they didn't record a melodramatic theme song, and this time around they got Sia to cover Me To The Moon.

They're pushing the Final Fantasy IV references pretty hard for this expansion, in case that wasn't clear from previous trailers.

Anyway, assuming the servers don't explode this weekend, it's gonna be a pretty epic time.

I've never been playing anything like this during a full expansion launch, so I'm very excited. My glams are all in order, my gear is in place (I haven't had need for Scaevan maiming or healing gear in quite some time), I went back to what I currently think of as my iconic hair, and I got my Moderna booster today, so I can claim I have a headache if I don't feel like working from home.

Bold of you to assume...

I'm trying to stay optimistic

I got my booster a few weeks ago, but took no comp/sympathy time off from work for it. Maybe I can claim a delayed reaction? Eh? Ehhhhh?

My kid's getting his second Pfizer shot tonight; there's gotta be some way I can use that to my advantage, right?

"Mental health days" are valid uses of sick time, just sayin'.

Looks like FF6’s Pixel Remaster will now be out in February.

Dang I was just going to post that. The only one I will get day one.

Apparently they were planning to release more info on FF16 this year, but now they’re planning for the spring. Maybe a holiday release then?

Oh good, I look forward to playing it in 2025 when it's eventual PlayStation and Epic Game Store exclusivity finally expires.

You expect it to be released by 2025?

Don't get me wrong; I stan Yoshi-P, but he's got his hands full with XIV right now. I'm not expecting anything from XVI anytime soon.

Yoshi-P is “only” producing, not directing 16 (Hiroshi Takei gets that honor). Theoretically that should reduce the load on him. Like with 14, they’re being fairly up front about setting expectations: spring 2022 for more info. That means up through June, potentially. I hope at that time we’ll get a release window but I won’t hold my breath.

New trailer for Stranger of Paradise is out.

Absolutely bonkers

GOTY

Spoiler:

Honestly, shaping up pretty decent for the weirdness it's trying to be.

Yeah, I went ahead and preordered on the Epic store today. I need to be in on this madness day one.

I’ll be curious to see the reactions. With Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring coming out in February, I’m holding off on Stranger but there are some aspects to it that seem like it could be fun. Team Ninja’s involvement and the job system could be an interesting combination.

I'm not too cool to admit recreating the title card made me:

Oh yeah, that looks very interesting!

What if they follow the FFXV example and release in spring then finish making the story by 2025?

How. The Expletive. Did I not know this was a thing?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!?!?

I know I'm 30 hours into a FF7 replay, but expletive still! That looks amazeballs and it's now officially two real reasons to kick my Playstation up a number. One more and I'll have the trifecta.

No, no, they'll follow the FFXV example, release in 2025, and release DLCs, never finish releasing them all, and end up putting the final one in a novel in 2029.

Not technically Final Fantasy, but S-E is releasing all three Kingdom Hearts streaming on Nintendo Switch. I started the first demo, and it's a bit laggy, which is to be expected, considering my overloaded wifi. I'd really prefer a standard version of III for the Switch.

Maybe you’re just wanting the increased fidelity, but just FYI this is, like most stuff this year a cross-gen release and can be played on PS4.
