Yet another headphone thread

Wireless is always less than ideal. There's an article here showing recommended wireless headphones in different price categories. He recommends the Sennheiser RS 120s in that price range ($80). Inner Fidelity generally has pretty good opinions on headphones.

I have no idea what the Universal Afterglow headset is like. My guess is that it's overly bassy and muddy, but that's a total guess.

Edit: IIRC, I think there is a Turtle Beach wireless headset that a few people on here have and like. I imagine someone will pop in here with a link eventually. I don't know how much the headset costs.

Searched the forums and didn't come up with any results so I apologize if this has been asked previously. Has anyone used the Universal Afterglow wireless headset by PDP? I'm not looking for anything fancy - just something I can use when the SO is studying and that won't have a cord going across the living room. These seem to be the only ones I can find under $100 that will support full audio from my 360.

I usually give the ladies a Universal Afterglow after loving....ok that is lie. I'm a sad sad man.

I bought these and they sound good. Had some initial trouble with a hum but after playing around with it some the hum is gone. They are not comfortable but I got use to it. I don't like the volume button because it is kind of slick. The range is great on this thing. I can go outside and get the mail, go to the bathroom and take a dump, walk into the next room and dance around without any lost in sound. A really nice thing is this headset doesn't take up a outlet. Phones are completely powered by USB. My Tritton takes up 2 outlets, well actually 4 because the plugs are big.

I think it is worth the price. There was deal going on to make them $20 cheaper but I think it is dead now.

I've been using Klipsch IEMs for a bit. I really like the fit of these better than other IEMs I've used, but wanted to report their durability.

I first had a pair of IEMs with a single button remote and mic that I think are discontinued, but used the newer driver that the S5i's used. Those lasted me over a year before I think I pulled the wire connection a bit too much at the junction of the left and right cables, so I lost one ear. Klipsch replaced them with a new set of S4i's, which were considerably more expensive than what I paid for the close out PC targeted IEMs.

I'd also bought a S5i's. They're the "rugged" version, and I'd picked them up as a spare after finding them on a sale. I'd started using those after I broke the originals. After 11 months, the stress relief point on the plug gave way, and within a few weeks, the remote stopped working, although the sound was fine. I assume that means the wires there at the plug were shorting out. Again, Klipsch is sending me new ones no questions asked.

So much for ruggedness, but I still am pretty happy with their levels of service, the sound for what I paid ($60 or less for both), and especially the fit.

Mainly wanted to post this as we often get people in this thread asking for high durability IEMs, and wanted to put up some feedback.

I can counter your post by saying; I've had a pair of their Custom1's for 3-4 years now with no problems. That is with daily use for 7-8 hours sitting at a desk but, having to take them out constantly to answer stupid questions.

To back up you post though. I have a pair of their X10's that I got on Black Friday last year and, their stress relief cracked on each ear within 2 months of the above mentioned use. The crack never went all the way through and they worked flawlessly up until the day I retired them with some over the ear cans. I still carry them in my backpack for backup purposes.

Yeah, the stress relieve sleeves at the ear pieces of both headsets cracked, but that was not the failure point. The original set I blame myself for breaking, but they replaced them no questions asked. This set just wore out.

I also have a set of their cheaper models (S2i's?) that still work, although I've only kept them as spares after upgrading.

Overall I'm happy, but my experience with the S5i's didn't really show them to be that much more rugged.

Anyone heard of these ? My work place had a bunch of old models of more basic ones laying around, the mic is clear and the audio is surprisingly decent, wondering how good this set may be.

Dang, those look like Spider-man headphones. Paint them red and you'll be rockin!

I know they be stylin' right. lol

So I just noticed that my Creative IEM's are starting to fall apart - the cable cover on one side is starting to pull away exposing the cable so it won't be too long before it stops working. That means I'm back looking for a replacement set of headphones.

It's been so long since I last shopped online for headphones in Singapore and I'm now a little overwhelmed by the choices available. I'm primarily looking for:

1. IEM's as I prefer the compactness with noise isolation that I get when travelling on the train/bus.

2. iPhone compatible.

This is the website that I'm looking at - http://treoo.com/store/index.php/mai... . Any suggestions on a brand or model that can help me narrow down my choices?

I don't know what your budget is, but looking at that list, I know that Etymotic Research is a well-regarded brand, of course the prices demand that. Westone's as well, but they only have one and it's also spendy.

Sennheiser is also usually decent, but for the models they offer, those prices are ludicrous. Ahh, to live in a foreign country again.

Ah right, I forgot about the budget . I'm trying to keep it to around 90$ - 120$ so etymotic is definitely out. Sennheiser is in the budget but I have to admit that colour scheme is really putting me off. Any opinions on nuforce / fischer audio?

Re: prices - yes well, electronics can be expensive here compared to the US. Services like cellphone plans & ISP's tend to be way cheaper, so that makes up for it

My Etymotic MC5's were like $60. Is that not the case outside the US?

Thin_J wrote:

Your $ isn't the same as my $ (USD vs SGD). The MC5's are around 130 SGD here instead of the approx. 75 SGD they should cost if I converted your 60 USD price to local currency. Also, the MC5's don't seem to have a microphone so they wouldn't work with my iPhone as a mic+IEM replacement.

Ah, my bad. Was mostly skimming and missed the Mic requirement.

I still like my Klipsch IEMs better than either my mid range Etymotic and Sennheisers, but I think a large part of that is they fit me better. Some of those look crazy expensive on that site and come in colors that I didn't know Klipsch made (knock offs?). But there look like a few that aren't crazy high.

Not sure if you are being thrown off by the $ signs - prices are all in SGD, so there's an exchange rate (+ markup) built in. Don't think they are knock-offs, the site has a pretty good reputation around these parts.

The Klipschs are over my original budget, but I do like the flat cables on the S4(II).

My question about the knock off thing was solely based on colors I'd never seen. But I just looked at the Klipsch site, and they seem to have added those bright versions, so all's good.

hey, hey, hey guys, I need recommendations for ON EAR headphones, wearing glasses makes over ear generally unforgiving after a short amount of time (they are rather thick rimmed), help?

They are very polarizing as to whether people like them, but the Grado SR-60i or SR-80i might do the trick. Both are under $100. You might see if there is a store nearby where you could try them.

I don't have any actual experience with them. Do you have a specific price range?

Edit: Looks like you would want a headphone amp with the SR-80is, but you could get by without one using the 60is.

Also depends on what he wants to use them for. Those Grado's are usually suggested to be paired with rock, they have the treble for it, but not much soundstage.

If it's for movies or something more bassy, he might want something else.

Im mostly going to use them to listen to music and play games. I enjoy good bass but don't want it to be over powering or muffled, I find that is all too common in headphones with decent bass. Also my price range would probably stay under the the 80 dollar mark.

I like my SR80s. I don't have a lot of experience w/ audophile gear or vocabulary, but they sound good enough for me. I have an amp I use with them when listening to music, but I don't typically use it when gaming. (too much fuss, not enough return)

One thing is that they aren't the most comfortable things in the world. They aren't bad, but I definitely feel them after a few hours in marathon gaming sessions. They're perfectly find for my normal gaming use, however.

Grado's/Alessandros definitely lean more towards treble, but it's got a nice tight low-end that's I still find very enjoyable.

They're not the most comfortable for extended use, due to a combination of the sibilance and earpads, but the earpads are interchangeable and there's a few to choose from.

Are you going to be using them with the Vita for gaming lots? Maybe the Sennheiser PX 200-II would be good. Anyone here try those? It might be worth checking some reviews. They are on ear and closed so you won't annoy people on the go.

I don't think the Grados will have that cheap too much bass thing. They are colored, however. Many people really like this. They tend to be known as a headphone that starts people down the road of being an audiophile.

I think any on-ear headphone will get uncomfortable after a couple hours. I dunno if the Grados are worse than others.

The Grado SR60's are phenomenal and better than the SR80's, which I found to be way to bright.

The SR60's have a thick 6ft cord, so their are barely portable, but they are a wonderful sounding headphone and good for gaming. I highly recommend them. They are much warmer than the higher end models and they perform well above their pay grade.

Also, the headband is metal and it can be bent to fit your ears comfortablely. When I got mine they clamped to hard, but it fairly easy to bend them into submission.

I may use them for Vita home use and stationary on the go, when walking around, at the gym, etc. I have a good pair of earbuds so moving around etc with them is no concern. Do we think the comfort would be better from the Senheiser's? Because that is important to me, i did read there is almost no bass on the sanheisers though which is no good, we need some bass lol

Are they almost identical in build in terms of weight and feel to the S80Is because they have them at a place near me, but not the 60's so I could try them on. Is there a lot of sound bleed from them? just a bit is not a big deal, but for instance Skull Candies, I know they are balls, bleed terribly, i was in a class room with another student wearing them on the other side of the room wearing them on full blast and I knew what song he was listening too. So just better than that is necessary lol.

Here are some other options you might check out for closed on ear.

Those AKG k 81 djs are only $40.50 on Amazon.

I'm a little partial to AKG because I have the K702s.

At 58% off you probably can't go wrong! The inner fidelity review is pretty glowing and the Amazon reviews look great overall.
