NFL 2013: Week 2

Prediction: Schiano is running a Mangini style deluded vision of what a team should be, not treating players like adults or even humans.

And Freeman showing up late to meetings and such is probably the usual for, say, starting QBs. I can see Schiano and staff busting people's balls with their strict rules and all.

The 26-minute song will play in its entirety before every single edition of Sunday Night Football, network sources have confirmed.

I'm watching the Cards/Rams game from last week as I wanted to get a look at both offenses.

Palmer looks even better than the stats say. If he can stay upright then he could have a top 10 year. Nothing you haven't heard already. Larry Fitzgerald, yada yada.

Also, Patrick Peterson on offense? Wtf?

Bradford. Does he have trouble seeing the field? Is that the issue? Is it Brian Schottenheimer's offense that creates all these check downs? Without Jared Cook, Bradford basically played like Blaine Gabbert. Okay, not that bad.

Is it the Patrick Peterson effect?

But we'll see. That's my mentality at the moment, and it may prove to be completely wrong.

I think Chip Kelly brings more to the table than just the read option and formations / plays that expose multiple potential mismatches. His practices are kind of legendary for being intense, short (when possible) and heavy on repetition. I think what was so thrilling about that Philly / Washington game was watching a bunch of guys that really hated playing football for their coach last year, running around giddy. That repetition in practice makes the offense kind of "easy" as I understand it. Players don't have to be geniuses. They have to know how to read the defensive keys and what the 3 or 4 options on a given play are. Find the mismatch and go play football.

The Eagles must face the dilemma of scoring too many points too quickly. Slow down the game, eat clock, change what works and Skins almost come back and win. Perfect timing with the next matchup against a team that cannot finish.

There is a solution for that. Oregon would change speeds in the game. They would still run no-huddle, but then they'd get to the line and wait to snap the ball. The fact that they could snap the ball at any moment forced the other team to keep the same personnel on the field and they got a breather and stretched the clock.

Jason LaCanfora is reporting Josh Freeman is likely to ask to be traded. I'm beginning to suspect Greg Schiano is on the Saints' payroll and is trying to annihilate Tampa from within.

Freeman wouldn't seem to have all that much trade value, given that he's in the final year of his deal and will hit unrestricted free agency. I imagine Freeman would rather hit free agency than sign a cheap 2-3 year deal now. And I don't imagine any team is going to be thinking Freeman is someone they want to sign to a big deal now, or use the franchise tag on in the offseason.

So, it seems like he'd be a rent-a-player for this season, and one without the benefit of knowing his new team's offense.

Not sure who the buyer would be. No doubt plenty of teams would waiver claim him if released, but don't see who is going to pay a draft pick to get him.

Well, yeah, mid-season trades in the NFL aren't common, and it's even less likely for an erratic QB on the last year of his contract. The thing is, Freeman and his agent clearly both already know that, which makes this even more shocking. The simple fact is Tampa has no other options at QB; Mike Glennon is absolutely nowhere near ready to play in the NFL, and Dan Orlovsky is, last I checked, Dan Orlovsky. Schiano has managed to utterly torpedo his relationship with the singly most important player on his roster and really the only guy who has a chance of having any success this year. Schiano likely survives one year regardless as he's only two years into a five-year contract, but, barring the drafting of somebody who has a Luck/RGIII/Wilson sort of rookie year, this hoses next year as well.

I tell you, he's the Manchurian Coaching Candidate.

Come on, Texans! Complete the ruination of Gumbie's weekend!

Alex Smith is a beast.

Well GB having a RB was short lived. Lacy concussion.

And Rodgers has been sacked 3 times.

Joe Falcco's memoir will be titled 'Still Throwing High' without a trace of reference to drugs.

Football: Merriweather who already knocked Lacy out of the game by leading with his head does it again to Starks..... Knocks himself out.

I'm watching the Chiefs at a local sports bar. Kind of amusing to see the realization on Ram fans' faces that beating Arizona on a last second FG had not meant the Rams have arrived.

Man, it's a good thing I love pass plays that, if completed, would not go for a first down...otherwise, it would be hard watching some of this.

Amusing given that earlier today, PFT ran the story, Packers Offensive Line Holding Up Well So Far.

The Chiefs D is playing better than the 10 first quarter points to Dallas suggest. Both scores were set up by unlikely pass plays for long completions.

Their offense has been hit or miss, and more miss with Brandon Albert going out.

Christian Ponder is still Christian Ponder. Adrian Peterson has not been Adrian Peterson.

Green Bay is bouncing back nicely.

Devin Hester is Devin Hester.

Jay Cutler is Jay Cutler.

Holding up? More like just holding. Sitton last week had a bunch that were excruciating.

There was a hold today that almost turned 7 into 3 points but Aaron Rodgers isn't missing Jennings all that much.

24-0. The defense is playing well but they more importantly look mad. They are borderline trending into dirty.

Clay Matthews' defense? No, couldn't possibly.

So would you say that the Bears are who we thought they were?

Being forced to watch the Falcons/Rams game since I am in Atlanta, the Rams receivers sure drop a lot of passes and leave Bradford hanging.

Crown their ass!

Lack of discussion about the Eagles is telling.
