Video Game Deals Catch-All

R.U.S.E is 4.99 on Gamestop PC (aka Impulse). Enable/disable me Goodjers!

This is from Rob Zachny, to whom I often turn for impressions on this sort of thing:

... The only game that sounded interesting, and this was me really reaching for something to care about, was Ubisoft’s gimmicky-sounding RTS, R.U.S.E. But nothing beyond the deception mechanics sounded interesting, and the thought of a WWII RTS from a developer I’d never heard of was profoundly unappealing.

But here we are in the September of what has been a solid year of strategy gaming, and RUSE has proven to be one of the best entries so far, and an almost ideal cure for what ails the RTS genre. The beta showed that RUSE had a great interface and some good faction balance, and the final product confirms that Eugen Systems unexpected bridged the gap between wargamers and RTS gamers, and put the casual gamer first.

My review is up at GameShark. It’s the highest score I’ve awarded a game yet, but I simply adore the genre blending at work in this design. I’m in good company. The gentlemen of Rock, Paper, Shotgun have said that, “It’s a game men should play.” And indeed they should...

I haven't personally played it (though I got it as part of last year's Ubisoft bundle), but it's one that will definitely get played when I ever find myself in the mood for an RTS. Granted, that hasn't happened in a decade, but apparently you should give it a shot if you're remotely interested.

Come see us in the official Dark Souks thread for tips and encouragement, folks!

do the tips and encouragement have to be Dark Souls related?

Hm, It seems like Rob isn't too keen on the campaign, which is a bummer as I never play multi-player in any game. I can probably look past that for 5$ though, and there's always a good old-fashioned comp-stomp if the campaign doesn't work.

*click*.. aaand bought.

If anyone's life is darker and more depressing than Dark Souls, we're happy to take our best shot! But that is seriously dark and depressing.

Lego Lord of the Rings and Scribblenauts Unlimited are 7.50 on amazon right now. Steam enabled.

It applied the $5 promotional credit, so it cost me only $2.50 for LEGO LOTR.

I don't suppose I could beg someone on the the other side of our border to buy me one of these keys ^_^? LOTR that is. not interested in Scribblenauts.

I'd be happy to send you $3 to compensate.

I have a version of Scribblenauts (unplayed) on iOS. Is that and the LotR worth it?

Which promotional credit was that?

From the product page...

Object Creator -
Create original objects on Wii U, assign unique properties, and share them with other players online. Use them in game or modify them as you like!

Does this mean you cannot create objects on PC?
Seems odd, but you never know what crazy things game devs will do.

I don't know if it's from the Dark Souls I bought a moment before or something else I bought before today. It applied the credit automatically.

Yea; I just bought the Harry/Batman Lego pack and no discount was applied. I don't mind the $13.99 price for the 3 games; but it must be a promotion I did not receive from one of my prior purchases. This has been the year of the non-steam sale for sure.

Good % discounts so far on Amazon dailies:
12/24: Batman Arkham GOTY Pack (75% off), Harry Batman Pack (80% off), Scribblenauts Unlimited (75% off)

Looks at Amazon's calendar for upcoming dailies & salivates....
12/25: Borderlands 2, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Guild Wars 2
12/26: Battlefield 3: Premium, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Guild Wars 2
12/27: The Walking Dead, Saints Row: The Third, F.3.A.R.
12/28: Civilization Games
12/29: Arma 2: Combined Operations, Mass Effect Trilogy, Big EA Bundle
12/30: Tomb Raider: Underworld, Hitman: Absolution
12/31: Spore Ultimate, Battlefield Bad Company 2 Ultimate

Any idea what the Amazon Editors Choice games will be in January?

There should be a link in the promotional credit email you got, but if not, the list is here.

You can create objects on PC. They have a steam workshop for scibblenauts.

Amazon has Sleeping Dogs (PC only) for $17.49. Requires Steam.

I just grabbed that the other day on GMG for a smidge over £7, thoroughly enjoying it.

Fair enough!

The podcast segment on the game got me really excited to play it, until I realized afterward it was an exclusive. Ohs nos! Never been much of a consoler, which sounds unfortunate in this case.

I think this is the first time it's gone on sale. Not a huge drop, but I had other things going on.

I'm going to have to take a look at that Guild Wars 2 daily. If it drops past the 50% mark, I'm going to have to cave.
