The Witcher 3 Catch-All

Every Bar In The Witcher 3, Reviewed [kotaku]

I think there are a few in this list that I didn't visit.

I'm trying to hold off installing and playing again until I can build a computer that'll run it at 60fps. Reading articles about the game isn't helping me wait.

You know.... Now that I think of it, I never really played Blood & Wine... Might be the time to revisit it...

..... The BEST DLC ever for the BEST game ever. Might be time!
(Full disclosure: I got halfway through and haven't finished because I never want it to end)

I think I'm actually approaching the end of the base game, and am rather torn on whether to jump right into the DLC or take a short break (currently at about 90 hours for this playthrough).

Unless you've put in a solid 20 hours since getting to Kaer Morhen, you still have a way to go. It may be advisable to take a short break, but see how you feel when the credits roll.

I'm busy with Blood and Wine right now. It's something special alright.

I really should not follow this thread any more. It just makes me want to reinstall, but I too will save any future playthrough attempts for when I have a fancy rig to run this a 60FPs 1440p

Hah, that's quite possible. Only have a vague idea of what is going to happen once I finish where I currently am in Kaer Morhen.

Spoiler:

Ended last night in the middle of defending against the Wild Hunt, which makes me want to play as Ciri more often, as I just like her combat abilities more. On the plus side, I've completed every single side quest and treasure hunt to this point. Not sure how many more of those the game will throw at me.

Playing as Ciri is a lot of fun. With Geralt you feel his weight and age, Ciri is far more spry.

There have been complaints about the combat, but the deliberate pace and momentum is definitely a choice. This is highlighted by the Ciri sections which show what the combat would be like without that stylistic choice.

It's really really really really good. I know you really had a justifiably hard time with Hearts of Stone so I hope you're able to get to this.

The characters are all very strong with one, in particular, being my favourite in the entire series. The final moment in Blood & Wine is absolutely beautiful.

Seconded. Blood and Wine has some really great moments and you dont get railroaded into a romance as with Shani.

Mind the horrendous Faux-French accents though.

I just pretended they were a weird French, Dutch, Swiss mix.

This is exactly what put me off last time. I ran into a couple of dudes, they opened their mouths and I went “SIGH”. The faux French is such a tired trope.

Yeah, I wouldn't know a good French accent if it kicked m in the ass and I know these are bad.

Maybe playing in a different language with subtitles? The second time I played the original I played in Polish. It was pretty cool.

Well it's not France, it's Toussaint. Nilfgaard has some French elements too. None of the regions precisely line up with real-world equivalents. So the accent is Toussaint, not French. Problem solved!

This is actually the light I painted the area in as well. Toussaint is this vibrant larger than life fairy tale that is over the top, and the accent matches the theme. I feel it was another deliberate choice to make Geralt stand out, and to really let his personality shine bright against the juxtaposition of the fairy tale landscape.

I guess it’s easier to paint it in that light when it’s not your culture that ludicrous accent is spoofing.

Maybe they are spoofing Quebecois? Does that help?

The Quebecois accent in English is waaaay different.

That being said most English accents have been regularly spoofed or just done plain terribly. After a while I was able to get passed this one though it was jarring for a first few interactions. I expect many others have experienced this with various British, Scottish accents, Southern US accents, etc.

Okay, you win, folks. I'm downloading.
Oof, 42 gig. I'd forgotten it's that big.

You could be a hipster and play with the polish voice acting. Then the accents wouldn't bug you at all.

I could see myself doing this if I (when?) play this again....

Make sure you follow Guillaume's quest lines up to "The Warble of a Smitten Knight".

Why've you all gotta go make me play this again. As if I didn't already have enough to play!

Whew, base game finished last night.

Spoiler:

Geralt is now off Witchering with Ciri and enjoying life with Yen.

Think I'll finish a few other games I had my backlog and then jump back in. Heard HoS is more linear, so that will be somewhat of a relief (I burn out on open world games fairly easily, even when well done).

Ha, a very nice Easter egg!

Ewww... Crypto-fascist developers can keep their hands off better properties thank you.

I've watched enough BBC mysteries and Wodehouse adaptations to expectantly cringe every time they introduce the new character as "an actor/actress/entrepreneur from New York" (though never quite as hard as I did the time they cast Joanna Lumley in the role of an aged Stevie Nicks-alike).

How many different endings are possible? I'm so worried that I'm making bad choices and get a crappy ending. It's almost like parenting!

The main endings come from romantic choices and your dealings with Ciri. My advice with Ciri is show some faith in her.
