Madison, WI S&T - Saturday, July 15th (Updated for 2017!)

Bill: We can for sure be accommodating. Let's all talk when you get here.

We made it back from the game. Final prep is under way. See you folks soon

Just got home, after a long night of fun games. Thanks to Dimmer, Psych, Norfair and, most of all Phish for a great time. Phish you have a wonderful house.

Conscious enough to be up and about - had a kick-ass time last night. Was great to meet Tigerbill, and always a good time hanging out with Norfair, Psych, and Phish.

Many thanks to the Phish family for hosting the S&T.

Thanks guys! I had an awesome time. We'll do it again in a few months I think before the holidays are going full bore.
It was my pleasure to host. You were all great guests. Next time though I'll have more puzzles (and capes!) for Psych. I'll repost the pics I tweeted either later tonight or tomorrow.

Also, drawception was the online version of the last game we played.

Well, crap. I see this thread Monday morning for the first time.

I thought for some reason you had moved away, and for that I apologize. I'll make sure to send you a PM next time though

So, I will resurrect this from the dead for now and start a new thread when the time is right. Norfair suggested in the cooking thread that it was long past time to arrange another GWJ get-together in the Madison area this summer. I am putting this out there as a sort of a straw poll to gauge interest from you lot.

The Basic Details:
Host(s): Myself and my long-time lurker friend who turned me on to GWJ years ago. We are avid homebrewers and craft beer fanatics who also slow cook BBQ way too much brisket, pork shoulder, ribs, chicken, etc., and have closets of shame stacked with board games. We should have the protein and beverage components covered. We are old farts with families (my son is 14, his kids surround that range up and down). Pretty sure we don't show up on any of the bad lists.

Location:
Town of Middleton. We live down the street from each other off of Airport Rd.

The Plan:
Duh. Great Food. Great Beer. Great Games. Great, awkward, Convo (from me, anyway).

When:
A weekend TBD. Feel free to shoot me a PM or post here what dates work (or weekends that are just plain out) for you. I would set the range from last weekend of May to late August, before school gets going.

Fire of questions to me! I hope this works out. There is interest from a couple of Minnesota Goojers who have ties to the greater Madison area as well.

Cheers!

Holy sh*t was this really four years ago already?

I'll ping Dimmer on Twitter. Maybe we can get Pysch back over here too. Only if he brings dutch letters though.

I'm pretty booked this month with kids birthday stuff. Next month is fairly open at this point, although that's likely to change eventually.

I'll look at the calendar and talk things through with family but super excited.

I'll look at the calendar and let you know of a road trip is in order!

Depending on the weekend I'd be interested!

If you hadn't gone to Florida you would have gotten Dutch Letters in March, you foolish man.

I am getting together with my friend/co-host tomorrow to brew some beer and we should have some possible dates for the Madison/Middleton get-together later this summer. Once we have those, I will put out a Google Doc spreadsheet of weekends that people can mark their availability on and we can select dates that work for the most people. Best guess at this point is that we are looking at July/August. I will create a new post but will link it into this thread to let you all know.

May I suggest a Doodle rather than a spreadsheet? We've had decent luck with other events like this using that service.

Sure, thanks for the suggestion!

They were soooo good.

Do kringles make it out to Madison? We could have a pastry exchange.

We tend to get iffy kringle in plastic-wrapped packages. It's nowhere near as good as O&H.

If there's any left from the batch in my fermenter right now, I will bring a growler or two of my homebrew to share.

OK, I created THIS Doodle for a Madison Area S&T for this summer. In talking with my buddie/co-host, the weekends of July 8-9 or July 15-16 are what works for the two of us, with the 8-9 working a little better. As I mentioned above, the idea is to relax, hang out, eat some great BBQ with adult beverages available, and play some board games, corn hole, or other such things. Swimming may or may not be an activity on the list, depending on which of our homes we gather at.

We are open to a full weekend of activity or a single day, whatever people prefer. For now, please indicate if you are interested in getting together and which day(s) work for you. Families are certainly welcome, as is flying solo. We will just want a general head count, any food restrictions/dietary concerns (GF, allergies, etc.) to make sure everyone can have an enjoyable time. Our spouses both eat GF, so we are pretty used to having alternatives.

Let me know if anyone has any feedback, ideas, or questions. Do you think I should start a new thread or can we just re-title this one? I really hope this works our for people.

Dumb question: is this kiddo friendly? I may or may not need to bring children.

I will confirm with my buddie, but I would say yes. My son is 14 and my friend has sons 16 and 14 and a daughter who is 12. They may or may not all be there, depending on activities on the dates. Most of our gatherings involve our respective kids and friends' kids, who will usually swim (if at my buddies place), play video games/pool/ping pong, or board game with us. When they board game, they often win and are very sneaky Secret Hitler players. Be warned!

Sorry for the delay. I got caught up in work trips and the Nat'l Hombrewers Con last week. We are definitely a go for Saturday, July 15th based on the responses. Wow, that is fantastic if you all can make it.

Specific details to follow (my friend and I are still sorting out which home we will host at. My wife and son will be up at her folks in DePere all weekend, so there is plenty of room at my place if anyone from out of town needs a place to crash. Also very open to carrying it over to Sunday to those that are interested. Like I said, my house is free and clear of domestic objection!

How is the best way to coordinate in your opinions? Start a new thread? It will be good to know who all is coming and if they will be solo or with family. Also, if their are any food restrictions due to dietary, religious, personal life choices, etc., so we can plan the menu. Fair warning to all: we both have dogs. I have a 90 pound Boxer (half the size of my late Mastiff, Henry seen in my avatar) and my buddie two larger beasts, a Newfoundland and a Leonberger. Good pooches all, but if anyone has bad allergies, wanted you to be aware.

Hey, all. Two weeks out. How many of you are in for Saturday the 15th? Starting to plan out how much/what kinds of meats or meat-alternatives (that phrase made me cry) are needed and get a total head count. If there is a better location to plan this, I am all ears. Should I do that with the Doodle app? Can I? You can all PM me if you have questions and prefer to do this off thread.

I'm in. I don't require an alternative to meat.

And do you need something from us?

I/we rarely say no to an interesting beer. If people want to bring a side dish or an appetizer that would be great too, just give a heads up. I'll send out time and address to everyone confirming or that is a maybe next week (or earlier if you want it now).

I'm in, but won't be able to make it until later in the day. We have my wife's company picnic earlier that day.
I'll find some beer or a bottle of something to bring though
Let me update the OP as well. If there's anything else you want in there please lmk.

Sadly, I'm going to have to bow out.

We'll be celebrating our anniversary that day (it's shifting forward from the 20th because of some travel).

I'd love to get together with Goodjers for games, but it'll have to be some other time.

Sorry to hear it, Dimmer. Given that:

my wife and son are at the in-law;
I have free reign of the house; and
we will likely have leftovers

Give me a heads up if you feel like doing some gaming, eating and drinking that next day!
