Holy sh*t, did I miss the memo where Spelunky guy and yellow hard hat lady were the canonical pairing?
I don't think Spelunky's narrative was comprehensive enough to preclude the possibility. I'm just glad it's not the female damsel.
OMG!
Gotta say I would just about be the most disappointed I could possibly be if this doesn't get a PC release

The lore and fanfic goes deep...
Here is a blog post from Derek Yu about the sequel.
Derek Yu always comes across as so thoughtful and nice. And he was especially gracious when I tweeted at him about Spelunky the other week.
Not sure if it has come up earlier in this thread but if you're jones-ing for some more Spelunky-like action I've been enjoying Caveblazers

Looks like original spelunky and is much more focused on RPG and combat but it has been scratching the itch for me.
That trolling with the date at the end. Amazing. It does look like they’ve amped up the craziness. It seemed faster paced than how I think of Spelunky 1, but maybe that’s just because they picked out the quicker moments for the trailer.
re pacing: I think its cut together to be exciting and you're likely looking at some pretty good players/play testers because there is some pretty clever skillful stuff happening there.
loving the look of the particle physics water stuff.
It’s hard to tell but it definitely looks like more of the same, but better. I’m excited for the inevitable Switch release
"Colin Northward." That gave me a chuckle.
I like the looks of the added features, from what I could see in the trailer.
I have just discovered the Spelunky folk now have a games design podcast. Lots of delicious spelunky info in the initial podcasts

It's a great show!
It's not Spelunky devs, but Nick Suttner(ex 1UP & Playstation), Douglas Wilson (Johann Sebastian Joust), aaaand I don't actually know about the other two. All pretty frequent players though and some awesome insight into the game. Plus, they have Derek Yu on a couple times.

All of this. I started looking up 1UP Yours/GFW Radio alum about a week ago, and I was ecstatic to learn Nick Suttner had started releasing this Spelunky-centric podcast!
I began listening this past Wednesday and I'm caught up to about episode 18. This is definitely filling my desire for Designer Notes' style discussion between game devs. And, it has completely reinvigorated my interest in playing Spelunky daily.
On a whim, I was also convinced to grab a PS Vita to use as my portable Spelunky machine (turns out you need a proprietary memory card for this thing? Guess I'm waiting for that to get delivered. *sigh* Sony...) Luckily, I have a PS3 sitting around so my purchase didn't go completely to waste with Crossplay.
For my first Daily Challenge I was able to complete a Hell run, which I haven't done in years. I only decided to tackle it after four practice runs, the last of which I died in Temple, with 12 hearts, 27 bombs, holding the Scepter, getting stun locked by a Mummy pestilence breath. A classic "that's Spelunky" moment.
Spelunky 2 is now right at the top of my hype list for 2019. Thanks Spelunky Showlike!
/wordvomit (This is my first GWJ post in nearly 3 years? It's good to be back.)
Shocked this isn't out on Switch. Any word of it coming to Switch?

Last I heard (from Giant Bomb podcast when they discussed it) was that Spelunky 2 would be coming to switch, but that their port team was moved over to the second game and no longer working on ports, so it's unlikely Spelunky 1 will ever be seen on the Switch.

It's on Switch 0.1 ...
