EverQuest Next: Landmark - Catch All

Refresh Refresh Refresh =(

Forums are down. People must be getting in. No email yet for me =(

Emails are on their way (just got mine), but they're getting SLAMMED! I click on the link and it just sits and spins

Do you know how big the download is? NM like 19 MB.

Im in game in the 2nd shard I believe. Don't remember the name

My god, the land rush is insane. There's ... nowhere left. Next continent.

Edit: Snagged a place on Drift. Now if only I could find more copper.

Yea I now wish I kept the claim I first made.

This game is like the anti-fun.

Dayum. Servers are full.

Deleted my character and now all my items have disappeared, $100 just went poof. I know its Alpha but not being able to play because you cant place a claim is a little frustrating because - there is no land left to claim.

Now I cant even login. Oh well - maybe after the weekend rush

I only got a little time so far but I like what I've tried, buggy performance aside

I'm thinking of throwing some money at this- is there anything implemented beyond building yet, or is that the extent of the game?

gathering and building is all there is right now

Submit a support ticket. That's what the forum suggests.

yea it's crazy. I finally was able to get a claim but it's on the tippy top of the zone (don't remember name, one of the T3 ones)

I've got a really nice claim, got lucky on a map/continent once I saw how filled up some of the others were getting.

Spy, I've seen other people talking about their stuff disappearing after logging back in. Clearly stuff is bugged.

Also been seeing people complaining about spending $100 and not getting into Next. I wish I could be so loose with my money I could spend $100 and not read what it was I was buying.

My claim took me a while to find an open spot today. (out in the edge of nowhere in the desert)
I sunk it into the ground because I wanted some subterranean parts. Unfortunately, I don't think that part is working now.

I am having fun but will be very active on the feedback in the next few months.

edit: Oh and Spy and others, don't forget to look at the tutorials in the game installation\tutorials folder. It clears up quite a few things and will get you past the "ZOMG I have no idea what I am doing aside from whacking things for materials."

and now I got hit by the claim bug... f*ck...

wish I had taken screen shots it was looking nice

I went straight down for 30+ minutes and never came across subterranean levels. You could still dig down and use stone to fill it back up and then cut back into the stone for something permanent.

Sent a you a PM.

I do like the UI.

Gigantic mess atm. Shame.

A lot should clear up once they get population caps sorted out. There's just too many people right now.

FYI I just got this (about an hour after I submitted the ticket):

Your issue is one of our top known issues at this time, and one that we are working on resolving as soon as possible. Have no fear though, your claim should not be lost forever. It should be on a different island. The forum link below will take you where they are discussing the current hot topics, and will be giving updates on their progress. We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your participation in our Alpha program. If you have any further questions, just update this ticket, and an agent will respond as soon as possible.

Servers should be back up any time now with updates that should help everyone who posted here today. Edit: (NDA is lifted)

*Some* resolutions are forthcoming tonight (2-3 hours from now). Details!

* Bug: If you set claim permissions so anyone else could modify your claim, then everybody could modify it. Band-aid fix: We're disabling claim permissions until we can fix them. (High priority this week.)

* Issue: The worlds are filling up with people! Fix: We're increasing the limits on both worlds and islands. (Quite a bit actually. About 50% more.)

* Bug: Memory leak on the server. Fix: We have identified and fixed one memory leak. We don't know if it's the only one, but this is fixed. Stability for the islands should improve. (Crash less.)

* Bug: If you use the Mega Pocket for your inventory, and then you place items in the last four slots of your inventory bag, and then log out, THEN you lose those items. Fix: Make the slots not do that.

* Bug: Claims were disappearing IF the claim description was edited so that the text there was more than 256 characters in size. Fix: Descriptions cannot be more than 255 characters.

* Bug: If you set up a private chat channel THEN all future progress on your character was not saved from that point on. Fix: Prevent such a problem. (Private chat channels are safe now and won't screw you up.)

* Issue: WHERE THE HECK AM I? Player has no idea which world or island they logged onto. Band-aid fix: The name of the world and island you are on will appear in the upper left of the screen (above the Landmark watermark). Later on, we'll add more features to Claim Management to also let you see where your claims are located.

* Issue: My starter tools are missing! Band-aid fix: We added recipes to the Stone Forge at hubs. These recipes allow you to recreate the ADD, DELETE, HEAL tools as well as the Stone Axe and Pick.

* Bug: The Founder's Pick, when used as an axe, did not have as long of a range as the Stone Axe. Fixed. Founder's Pick now has a range as long as the other axes.

ALSO (IMPORTANT!): Some players have deleted their character or crashed out in bad ways that made them lose their claim flag entirely. This is obviously bad as they can now do nothing but harvest resources. We are working on a fix to comb through the databases and grant a claim flag to any player that a) doesn't have a claim and b) also doesn't have a claim flag in their inventory. We HOPE to have this fixed in time for tonight's update.

Damn, so I may not be getting my claim back? Oh well.

I recognize is Alpha so I have no grief. I'll just give it a few days and get nice claim when it opens up a bit more.

You have the entire alpha to ask for a refund. Right now is the bare minimum. Should get better when there's more servers and biomes.

TB's about to stream some EQ at http://www.twitch.tv/totalbiscuit

Okay so the NDA is lifted (it took a while to settle in after ran posted it above) and I have a lot to say.

The game is amazing and has lots of potential. I don't know if you sandbox types will get enough sandbox from it because I don't see any other system for changing/controlling the world other than building on your claim. I know there will be combat at some point but the only way I see them making that sandboxy is if you have to craft better weapons and armor to take on the better stuff. They may be planning that and I can see them adding that layer for when we start getting into deep underground stuff or perhaps whole islands can be locked away for that purpose.

The other thing they can do is have us craft mines or mills to try and manipulate control over resources. (we have to travel FAR and WIDE to grab a lot of the basic materials now) Gathering is fun but it is a lot of aimless wandering without flying which is either locked away for now or locked behind a progression wall.

They need to find another form of progression other than gathering and crafting for builders. I was shocked that they locked away probably the most critical tool (the selection tool) behind gathering x amount of different materials. If you have to lock it away, give some sort of experience for building or create a set of achievements to complete. (like build a 10x10x10 hollow room of stone; punch a door in that room and trim the door with wood; build a cylindrical wall with the block tool; etc)

I will be making a ton of suggestions and more than likely re-posting this on the Alpha forums. I think the dropping of the NDA is a clue that we will have a great chance of effecting the development of Landmark. Even if the just polish what they have now, I can practically see myself handing my life over to it.

It is like a lot of people are saying that it is like Minecraft on steroids. (thank heavens I never got into that game)

One of the things that they're adding relatively soon is a progression path for crafting. They're also going to be adding different things to craft like clothing.

They also need to adjust how much Burled wood is need. When you harvest something you can get an 'upgraded' version of it. Burled wood is the upgraded version normal wood. You get around 3-5 pieces for every tree you harvest. To craft all the picks you need around 2500 or so pieces of it. By the time I crafted the last pick I had around 40k pieces of normal wood.

Burled wood has been complained about a lot on the forums.

I unfortunately got stuck looking for copper for so long that I gave up on stuff.

Here's my main complaint: I'm sick of holding down the left trigger. I have the same problem with Minecraft. There's got to be a better way, especially with something like harvesting trees because that's about as boring and mindless as possible. Let me lock on and stop holding the button.

from the FAQ

What Isn’t Here Yet? What’s Coming Soon?

Our intention is to get all of this stuff working before we go into Closed Beta. (Closed Beta is the next stage of our testing where we hand-invite people to join you Alpha folks. Open Beta beyond that is where we just open the game to anyone that wants to play.)
•Combat (vs. Hazard NPCs) – Yup! Monsters. Danger. Risk. Beware!
•Health & Endurance – Right now, you can’t die. Don’t get used to it!
•Damage, Death and the Death Penalty – See? Not kidding. Weesa gonna die!
•Underground Biomes – Underground is pretty much undeveloped right now. The caverns aren’t in and we haven’t separated the resources out into tiers of depth. That’s all coming soon and is in-progress.
•Guilds – Self-explanatory.
•Groups – Self-explanatory.
•Friends/Contact window
•Marketplace Offerings- We’re doing our Free-to-Play strategy a lot different this time around. We intend to very much be the good guys in our industry. Nearly everything that we sell for Station Cash will also be earnable within the game. And we’re putting a lot of faith into Player Studio also. We’ll define our strategy to you in a lot more detail as Alpha progresses.
•Tool progression – A bunch of this is in the game already, but we’re going to be changing it pretty constantly as we test and get feedback from you. Don’t expect this to be complete. It’s not. It will change often, but we’ll work hard to keep you informed of how and why.
•Map – The map is the backbone of Landmark and it’s going to be getting a ton of features. It’s how you find friends, locations that interest you, communities that want to build what you want to build and more. We’re going to put MAJOR effort into it soon.
•Buff UI – We don’t yet have any way to show you a unified vision of the various stat bonuses and abilities that you gain through progression and gear. Coming soon.
•In-game Mail
•Notification display and tray (mail, time, fps)
•Item linking (add to chat)
•Collaborations – This is a structure we’re creating to allow easy and simple co-op building between players. Right now, you can set permissions for other players to join you and work on your claim together, but it’s not what we’d call streamlined or intuitive. We’ll be working on that soon.
•Player merchants – This is how you turn resources (which can be awkward to barter) into coin that’s easily traded. NOTE: Merchants do not SELL anything. If you want to buy something, then buy it from a player in the Stalls at the Hub. (NOTE: Market Stalls are coming soon in Alpha.)
•VOIP support – Right now, you’re constrained to text chat. VOIP will be coming soon.
•SOEmote – The code support is done, but not the interface for using it. That’ll be added soon also.
•Social Networking Connections (Youtubes, Facebooks)
•Configurable Keybindings – Sorry that you can’t edit your keys right now. Soon!
