JRPG Catch-All

There was never a PS3 version of Persona 4 despite its release very late in the PS2's life. Sega might be looking at how well the PS4 is doing worldwide, but they also have to know that historically JRPG fans, and specifically Atlus fans, have been willing to buy games for older hardware for the unique experiences that Atlus provides.

There'll be a Vita release down the road, but no PS4 one.

I just jumped into P3P finally. P4G was my first Persona game, so I'm kind of surprised how similar P3P is to it so far. I guess I was thinking it would be something like Final Fantasy where each one is quite different. I hope it's different enough to grab me--it probably will since P4G was one of my favorite games of the last five years. So far none of the main characters are grating on me, so that gives it a slight edge. I'm really enjoying so far, though.

I liked the art aesthetics and plot much better in P3P. The only bummer things about it compared to P4G is it doesn't have the nice resolution and 3D aspect. The dungeons can be much easy to screw up one little thing and lose 30 minutes worth of progress. I had that happen to me multiple times. Fortunately, I managed not to chuck my Vita at a wall. I really didn't like Junpei's bro character, but P4G has the same problem, so whatever.

I'd lay decent odds on Persona 5 being a 3DS title.

If they go the full console route, watch it be a Wii title (thus playable on the Wii U as well via BC).

If you're even remotely serious I applaud your gutsy choice.

I'm actually being serious, yes. If they're choosing a platform based on sales and aren't stuck on current tech as a requirement, then the 3DS or Wii are the clear choices.

Personally, I'd probably be happiest seeing it on either the 3DS or Wii U, but that's because those are my primary gaming machines now.

Atlus is still referring to it as a PS3 exclusive. Apparently there was talk of releasing it as a Vita exclusive but the developers thought players would want it on a home console.

I would be floored if it ever showed up on the Wii U. Atlus hasn't made a Wii U game at all yet.

Ah, I didn't remember that Atlus had already stated a platform.

I don't expect mainline Persona to leave the Sony ecosystem.

Are they developing SMT x Fire Emblem, or is someone else doing it with their blessing?

Good call. They're co-developing with Intelligent Systems.

I'm going with "It's not out yet, so it doesn't count" rather than "I forgot that even existed".

Considering how much of it has been shown so far, I agree with you that it does not count.

Yeah, this has been very under wraps. I wonder if the focus from a marketing perspective atm is on their proper titles since Nintendo announced that 3DS game from IS.

I'm playing FFT now. 15 hours in. Posted about it in an ancient thread. I mention this because, much like ancient cities being unearthed in the game I am learned about amazing, fantastical things in this game and would love the help of others.

Spoiler:

There are guns in this game!!! As well as an ancient civilization with airships. S**t just got real.

Pro FFT Tip: Cid is OP.

Curious though, what system you playing on? It helps to know what content you have available to you.

Side note: Suikoden Tierkreis put me on a spiral as I realized I had never replayed 4 or 5 once. And just because I needed to remember how great it is I started with 3. I had forgotten some of the things three does that annoys me(THIS SPELL HITS MY ALLIES ARE YOU INSANE I CAN NEVER USE IT BECAUSE THEY RUN IN THERE LIKE IDIOTS). But man I loved playing these games again.

Suikoden 3, such a great game! Unfortunately I can't deal with the plodding pace of the battles anymore. Especially compared to the earlier games.

The Vita/iOS version gives you Balthier, who is possibly more OP than Cid, and you can optionally acquire an accessory that makes Agrias nearly as strong as that. Fourth chapter death squad.

Even though I have it for Vita/PSP I never got that far in.

Edit: Suikoden 3 battle system is the WORST in the series. Love the characters, story and all of that though. Also the skill system is an awesome addition.

Started Persona 4 last night! Didn't get very far, but it reminded me of how slow Persona 3 took to ramp up. This is going to be a very slow burn but I'm looking forward to finally experiencing this one. With luck I'll be done before Persona 5 arrives

When speaking of the current generation of consoles with regard to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Hiraoka says, “As console game makers, of course we won’t just avoid them. We’ll definitely be making an effort on that front.”

Persona 5 will be on the PS4. Watch.

From here. And here.

P4 takes quite a bit longer to get going than even P3, if I'm remembering it correctly. Enjoy!

Word of warning about Trails in the Sky on steam for those intending on picking it up. Seems a lot of people (myself included) are finding it very buggy with a lot of crash to desktops when running it at high resolutions.

I think I've temporarily sorted it by running windowed and switching off hi-res fonts, but it might be worth waiting for a patch (which should be in the works according to the forum) first, because having to replay the opening ten/fifteen minutes of unskippable cutscenes several times because it keeps crashes half way through is most certainly not fun. Luckily, once you're in the game you can pretty much save anywhere so, that's a plus.

Aside from that technical problem, this seems REALLY promising. And works really well with keyboard/mouse (mostly mouse).

For Some reason I just can't get into that game, I dragged myself through chapter 1 but can't bring myself to play again

It's because the game isn't very good :D. I had the same problem and for me it was just way too standard of a game for me to get excited about it.

I'm willing to bet it hits Wii U before PS4.

I think there's very little chance of mainline Persona leaving Sony.

Maybe. I just feel a Wii U port might be easier than PS4 since you wouldn't have the expectation to increase the graphical fidelity as much. I also don't know if the PS4 installation base is big enough in Japan right now to justify a PS4 port. Maybe a FES or Golden style enhanced edition late 2015/2016 would be an option since I can't imagine them going Vita for that and the 3DS would obviously require some compromises.

Also, I kinda want to see PS3/PS4/Wii U ports of the PSP P1/P2 remakes, P4 Golden, and a hybrid P3P/FES to build hype for Persona 5. I don't mind the look of P4 on my PS2 but the ghosting effect while walking around just looks weird.
