JRPG Catch-All

Is Tales of Vesperia a better game? That was going to be my starting point with the Tales games...

No idea. I also have Tales of Symphonia on the pile, so when I start that one up, I'll have maybe a better basis for comparison.

I think so but I only played 10 hours of Abyss on the PS2 which had big technical issues.

One thing I'll say for the 3DS port: it is smooth as silk and beautiful. No technical issues whatsoever.

By the way, the official Bravely Default Twitter feed has had a few hints toward localization outside of Japan. I'd still put it in a "very likely" category for localization and hope that it happens.

That's great news cause I enjoyed the first, but then I noticed the link for another game I never heard of beneath...I'll just quote the text

Conception: Please Deliver My Child has one of the strangest RPG plots we’ve seen where you have to make star maidens fall in love with you to create an army of children to save the galaxy. The battle system is kind of interesting since you literally surround enemies with your kids and attack enemies by exploiting directional weak points.

Famitsu revealed a sequel is in the works called Conception II: Guidance of the Big Dipper and Mazuru’s Nightmare. The upcoming game is in development for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita with a summer release window for Japan.

Japan you're awesome. Edit: Also a bit more reading on, just cause, and it's not an actual eh.. adult game which is oddly even funnier to me.

Story nonsense harkening to the escapades of Grecian deities with hints of Pikmen in the battle system? Why not?

Someone conjure me some Atelier Ayesha impressions. I'm curious about the series. They all look roughly the same, so I wonder if I should just get one of the older ones.

Kind of wondering the same thing. I looked at reviews of the previous 3 Atelier games the other day, and it does sound like they got progressively better. But they were all part of a (loose?) trilogy. Don't really want to play all 3.

Yeah, back in the day I remember wishing that just one Atelier game would get localised. Now we get a bazillion of them it seems.

I've been hearing good things about Dragon Quarter and the Tingle game on the DS.

PSA: If you haven't played Rune Factory Frontier, you really ought to. (Supposedly Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny is good, too, but I haven't gotten to it, yet.)

I never dug frontier that much compared to the first few ds games but tides of destiny was a strange but fun change of pace. After a certain point it barely qualifies as a harvest moon clone, but still fun.

It is really too bad that this is an MMO. Dragon Quest X on Wii U

It's the natural evolution from IX, so it makes sense. But, yeah, boo to the extra grind.

Yeah, I wish it was a real DQ game and not an mmo, but even still I wants it! I wants it NAOW!

FTFM. Although with the Dragon Quest VII remake hopefully making it's way over here, I should have a nice, single-player Dragon Quest game in my future. Assuming I don't just dive back into IX for the heaps of stuff I didn't get to yet.

Sure do hope that gets localized. I hear it's got a similar flow to Final Fantasy XI, and that is one of my favorite games ever.

Looks like the 3/26 date for Pandora's Tower was never set in stone, which has been reiterated by XSEED after Amazon emailed people with preorders saying the ship date had moved to 4/18.

Personally I'd like a May release. March is full of purchases for me, April has a few, but May has absolutely nothing.

I kinda agree there. Several games coming out this month already I'd like to get, including Luigi's Mansion 2. And then Soul Hackers next month. I wouldn't be sad at all to have it pushed back some more to spread my gaming purchases out a bit (especially considering I need some dental work done too >.<).

In case you don't follow Siliconera, here's the first look at Tales of Xillia with English voice acting:

Do we know what the platform is for Xillia? Just PS3, or 360 also?

PS3 only.

Suck it, SallyN!

It's a big budget Japanese role-playing game. I don't think they've made one of those for the 360 in ages. With 1/9th the local install base of the PS3, why would anyone bother?

I think the original hope was they would make up for it with sales in NA with the 360, but I imagine that never materialized since I think the last JRPG on the 360 was Star Ocean 4 in 2009?

I assume you're talking exclusively on the 360? There have been several since then that were multi-platform.

How many that weren't called "Final Fantasy"?

Spoiler:

Record of Agarest War Zero in June '11 was the most recent JRPG-not-named-"Final Fantasy" I could find for the Xbox 360.

New Pandora's Tower trailer:

When will we see JRPGs without spiky hair?

When it's no longer in fashion in Japan

So when we stop seeing western military shooters, I guess.

I assume you mean JRPGs that have male characters in them... unlike Hyperdimension Neptunia.

Yeah...

Yeah... Yeah!

(Why do they all have bangs?)
