JRPG Catch-All

Well The Last Story is still awesome, but not finished.

Despite hitting the point of no return in Ch31 on Mon night, and getting in several hours last night, I am now up to Ch37 or so, and still not finished.

Awesome stuff, and I thought I was going to stay up late and push through last night, but a quick check of walkthrough without spoilers looked like I still have 3 more chapters to go or so.

As for my previous story thoughts from a couple days ago:

Spoiler:
Therius is in the clear. He just appears to have died or is at least too injured to fight more, after fighting insurmountable odds to protect the city.

Dagran pulled a f*cking sword on me right after the knighting ceremony. Still talking about everything he had done to get us in this position and how I was throwing it away. So he still seems like a prime suspect for the General's death.

The Count is of course an asshole. And yet, we ended up following him into the castle depths and awakening the Outsider. Kept wanting to tell him to piss off but we just kept on with his stupid plans.

Anyway now we've screwed up and the city is in ruins and the people are hiding in the sewer and I just sneaked into the Garak base for a counter-attack. Should be interesting how this finishes.

More The Last Story this afternoon. Up to Ch40. Longest post-"point of no return" game ever I think. :p

And I just noticed that even though 41 is technically the "end" there's 3 more chapters listed after that before I actually finish?

Not sure if there's much chance of finishing tonight, but hopefully I can push through this weekend. Don't want to leave another incomplete RPG in the pile.

There's a post-game. There's new arena stuff and about two hours of additional narrative. When you really want the game to end, Lowell's your man.

I'm curious, any chance of this breaking into your yearly top-10?

I'm not even sure I've played 10 games released in 2012.

Hm... ME3, TL2, BL2, Walking Dead, Xenoblade, SMT:DS2. I think that's it? Skyward Sword and Trine 2 were late last year right?

Anyway yeah it's awesome. I think I like it better than Xenoblade at this point. Although I should go back and finish that sometime...

The Last Story is done.

Wow.

If you haven't played it, why not?! One of the best RPGs in years, on any system.

High f*ckin' five. It's so good!

Guess I should get playing it

Just gonna drop this right here in case anyone missed it the first time.

Mini Xenoblade update. There is so many quests in just the starting area alone. The only one I can't seem to finish is the one on Agore Shore behind the Unique Brog. If that Brog is drawing heat on me I can't pick up the damn item. It then proceeds to kill me. Spent 10 hours so far. Enjoying it.

There is a 15-page Xenoblade topic., FYI.

I just finished The World Ends With You. Thanks to everyone who convinced me to give it a second try, it ended up being a lot of fun. I never really got the hang of the dual screen combat thing, but focusing just on Neku ended up being plenty for me to keep track of without being overwhelmed. It's the first JRPG I've finished since Tales of Legendia, and the best I've played since Tales of Symphonia. Hopefully they'll make a sequel one day.

That's great news! There were 6 copies of the artbook version at the local Best Buy last night. Hopefully they get the memo and adopt the new price before they're all sold out.

I really wish I saw that $8 deal a while back My gaming budget for this year is just about spent.

Yeah, but you really, really need that particular one. Do I have to break out my enabling stick again?

(Also, IMO the artbook is really not worth $10. $30 is a great price for that game.)

Good to know. I'll wait for the $30 version.

Artbook and CD. :p

But still, the game is the thing. Must play it.

Etrian Odyssey IV is set for release February 26th in North America. Comes with... an artbook and CD.

Edit: It will be available on the eShop, too, although I don't know if the price will be discounted. I'll probably forgo the physical goodies for a digital version I can fire up any time.

That's a good candidate for digital. I'm excited.

So tomorrow I mail off my copy of Radiant Historia to SixteenBlue and it begins its trek across the GWJ community (at least, that's the hope). I started a whole "sign here" thing on the inside cover of the box art. Note that you have to be careful sliding it back in. It's a bit of a tight fit.

I guess 2012 is the year of JRPGs for me. I am currently playing FFXIII, Nier, and P4G. I'm enjoying the hell out of all of them. It's tough to decide which one to play. My goal is to finish them all by the end of the year. That might be tough because I'm going to be busy in December.

2 of those are awesome :). FFXIII did have its moments though.

Strangely enough I've been playing rune factory tides of destiny which is the most jrpgish of all the harvest moon games I've played. The actual farming bits are now basically a small side activity while dungeon diving and exploring are the mainstay of the game. Plus all the crafting and relationship building stuff. Really enjoying it honestly, even if it barely qualifies as a harvest moon.

Clocky likes one of those. I get all confused on which one is which.

I loved Rune Factory 2 on DS. For me it has the farming of Harvest Moon and everything else is just a great bonus. So I don't think I have any motivation to go back to a vanilla Harvest Moon game.

That was my same feeling. There is no point ever to play a normal harvest moon, since rune factory is everything plus dungeon crawling. It's just this last one is weird because you don't farm at all really. Monsters do all the farming for you. You leave a monster on an island plant something, and come back in a couple days to harvest. It is very strange. That being said all the other bits on the game are better then before. The combat system is nicer, and has jumping for once. The characters are interesting and actually have more dialogue. Then their is the completely unique bit with your giant golem sea explorer...

Loving it so far,

It's the game everyone else dislikes.

You know, I own Radiant Historia, but I think I'd like my first playthrough to be on the GWJ Community Copy.
