FF3 on UMD is the odd duck though.

Their other options were NES or DS unless they wanted to create a new version, and I suspect they wanted to stick with all discs for the sake of the packaging.

More like they were clearing out warehouses.

Not sure I follow you.

I think it was probably cheaper to make a UMD rather than a cartridge. I didn't know they ported/remade FF3 for psp though.

It's not out yet. Releases in JP in September. I don't know if we'll see it over here considering how the PSP market has tanked.

Interesting. Must be tough to market a collection where the target audience will already own most of the contents... there must be some rich Final Fantasy fans over there.

It says "VII International" but doesn't say it has the "International" versions of X and XII, which would be odd. It's also interesting that X-2 apparently isn't considered "mainline."

Anyway, my obsession over the expanded "International" versions should tell you what I want more than a compilation. We can hope that stuff makes it into the HD port of X, but I've resigned myself to never getting an English language XII with all the extras.

You and me both.

That there were warehouses full of FFIII for the PSP. That's my least favorite game in the (proper) series ... I didn't realize it wasn't even out yet.

The PSP version isn't even out in Japan yet....

You know, I just tried to stop and think about which I like less: FFIII or FFXIII. It's actually a tough call, so I'll just say they're tied for my least favorite entry in the franchise.

That's way too much FF for one person

I doubt that collection will come to the US much less anywhere else though. I mean NOA could barely care about Mario's 25th in the US/Europe.

Someone hardcore enough to want to buy that would already own all those anyway.

I dunno, I like FF but it doesn't seem particularly exciting. You'll probably be able to find it second hand for $100 a few weeks later.

There may still be a Twewy sequel planned.

Though I thought the original secret ending teased there was more to the story already...

Yeah, I think there was indication that there are Reaper Games in other cities too.

$5 says TGS reveal. They wouldn't go through the trouble of KH cameos and a re-release if they weren't trying to re-introduce the brand for a sequel 3 years later.

EDIT: There was also a tweet from one of the localizers when the new OST leaked the iOS version that suggested there was more to come than just the iOS version.

Someone that would get married to Final Fantasy music might buy those anyway.

The Job boards were entirely different, set up like traditional Final Fantasy jobs. So you could set Balthier down the Dark Knight path, Vaan down the Thief, etc.

There were some other systemic changes but that was the main one.

Oh I was thinking like collector's edition goodies. That sounds awesome.

I also really liked Soul Nomad, I don't think there are other options for that one.

As in the NiS game? I own that and haven't played it yet.

Sweet. I'm REALLY loving the iOS of TWEWY. I spent a ton of time with it when chilling on my vacation. That said, this made me literally laugh out loud.

Spoiler:

Another amnesiac?

Oh hey, a 3rd Final Fantasy XIII game. No it's not Versus.

I like 1up's preview.

It sounds promising. I'll buy it, sometime. Hopefully I will have played XIII-2 by then.

Yeah we should have been specific, it's called Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System.

Here's the full description from Wikipedia:

An international version of the game called Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System was announced on May 10, 2007. It would be released in Japan on August 9, 2007 as part of both Final Fantasy 20th anniversary and Ivalice Alliance. The game includes twelve License Boards available (instead of the original one), each corresponding to a different Zodiac sign and job. The battle system as a whole has been tweaked; guest characters and summons are controllable by the player, and holding the L1 button doubles the game's running speed. Additionally, the game features the English voices and the widescreen 16:9 ratio support of the North American version, along with a bonus disc based on the one initially released with the North American version. There is also a "New Game+" option, "New Game- (minus)" (where characters do not gain experience), and a "Trial Mode" which allows the player to hunt monsters in 100 different maps to gain items and money.

By the way, new bone to pick I have with XII - why's the music so terrible? It is out of context, anyway. There are like 7 songs from it in Theatrhythm and I can only handle one of them. The others make me doze off if I'm at all sleepy.

It's odd because it's from the same two composers as FF Tactics, and I can listen to that all day.

I'll have to read the 1UP writeup, but from the descriptions I was reading earlier I'm half wondering if they're axed Versus XIII and moved the mechanics into this game instead.

EDIT: Good writeup, and while I barely scratched XIII and XIII-2 I'm curious about where they're going with this. Parish's elaborations make it sound less like VS XIII which is good since it'd be a shame to see them toss out that game after working on it for so long. I'm now wondering if "Lightning Returns: FFXIII" means we might see another game or two that puts other cast members in the limelight for a full game.

Definitely looking like this is going to be a big TGS for S-E (and a big 2013 release calendar by extension). Kingdom Hearts 3 and a 10th anniversary KH HD collection are actively hinted at. A possible TWEWY sequel. A new FFXIII game, FFXIV overhaul, and maybe VS XIII finally gets a release date?

If Square-Enix's HD versions of their PS2 games don't include the "International Edition" changes I'm not going to be interested in them at all.

I'd be down for XII regardless, assuming it's reasonably priced, but just because I never finished the original. I'd definitely prefer the expanded version though.

...wait, wait. Did they say they were making an HD version of XII?

Blind_Evil wrote:

No. I'm just extrapolating since it's Square-Enix. Eventually they'll remake it on a new platform

Before we start expecting HD XII, we should see if HD X actually resurfaces at this year's TGS after a lot of silence on the topic.
