LEGO Nostalgia

Ah thank but it is not too big because I only started back in 2013. Brickset says I have 141 sets at almost 64k pieces and 401 minifigs.

Hey, I wish I had some of the older UCS SW sets you have. Actually, Kazar has some good star wars stuff also.

My goal this summer is to build this UCS Medical Frigate this guy made and he'll be selling the instruction June 1st.

I just want to build the tiny X-Wing! I love microscale models.

Ah, that run is over at the rpf. If he starts another one I'll post the link up here.

Methinks you have me confuzzled with someone else, as the only UCS SW set I have is R2-D2. In fact, that's the only UCS set I have.

Good God, that is a gorgeous set.

Oh, I thought you had the super star destroyer! My bad. I wish kazar would post some pics.

Unfortunately no, but that's one that Mrs. Abu and I have considered buying via parts and building.

I know on Eurobricks there is a smaller scale one around 700 bricks or so I plan on building instead.

Here we go:

pdf instructions on page 3 and a lxf file to get the parts list from LDD

I got a new Lego Juniors set: Batman & Superman Vs. Lex Luthor

IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/sk6EzqB.jpg)

It's actually a pretty nice set. Lex gets a mech, Superman gets a launcher to fly, and Batman gets a batmobile a mini batcave area and a disk launcher.

Lex Luthor's mech is actually pretty cool for being from a Juniors set.

But to be honest, I mainly got this for these 4 parts:

These may find their way into my Classic Batcave somehow.

That's a good looking little set. And is it weird that my first reaction was 'holy crap, a Superman that's smiling'?

Edit: and my second thought is that it would go really well with my Wonder Woman from dimensions to complete the Trinity in their classic costumes

Checked in with my local Lego store, and they have received a relatively large shipment of the Technic Porsche 911 GT3 kits. The person I spoke to said that they were taking turns building the display model, and that it's beautiful.

They will hold reserves until the end of the day, on the day you call them. It releases on June 1 in the US.

Why is Superman on a see-saw?

Because see-saws are fun?

Man I'm going to have to go the Lego store and take a close look at it.

I also just found out that the new Creator Expert set is going to be a "California surf" Volkswagen Beetle with a surfboard. US$100, VIP pre-sale in July, and for everyone else in August.

Ooohh, can't wait to see pictures of the Beetle. That may be a must buy for me. After building the VW camper van I wanted a Beetle to go with it, but the previous version was retired, too expensive and looked too blocky compared to more current builds.

Beetle with a surfboard!? So awesome. Plenty of time to add to my secret Lego savings.

Same here, I'd love a cute Beetle to go with my VW van.

So who else is getting the Porsche tomorrow?

Oh I sooooo want to, but have to be a bit responsible with my coin. (I am 100% sure we will have it at some point)

I saved the money for it but now I'm thinking I may use it to build that medical frigate MOC I linked earlier.

That frigate is pretty cool, Karma...

Question for you on something like that...

I assume that you would have to purchase many many bricks to build something like that. How would you go about doing that? Do you have to go through Bricklink or the Lego site and individually add parts to a shopping cart?

I will get a look at it, but I think that'll be as close as I get. It's almost half what I spend per year on video and board games combined, and Lego isn't as high as those on my hobbies list.

I'll be waiting for the Caterham Super Seven and next year's Speed Champions.

Yes. There was a way I read about a couple years back about a tool that helped automate some of the bricklink search. I'll have to look that up again.

I have a bunch of small sets I don't display anymore and I bet I have a chunk of the smaller stuff I won't have to buy.

Some MOC designers offer parts kits. I think if someone did for this one, I might just be in. Although I'd be more likely to go for Eve ship designs lol.

Apparently there is a build problem with the Porsche. Two gears need to be switched. Pages 278, 279, 280. The grey and black gears on the front should be swapped. (Otherwise, the shift pattern is 1,3,2,4.)

Any display jockeys have suggestions on dealing with dust?

Now I'm getting cold feet. The Porsche is a *lot* of money... However, the dual gearbox is really cool...

Frequent cleaning or closed cabinets.

Most dust can just be air sprayed of sets.

Brickset's review might either satisfy you for now, or push you over the edge. Read at your own peril.

When I got out of my Lego dark age around 2007, $40 seemed reasonable and $60 (the price of a video game) was the most I was willing to spend on a set. I was collecting TIE Fighters, and I wanted the X-Wing to go with them, but $80 seemed like way too much for a Lego model. Ten-ish years later and $40 is impulse-buy territory, $80 is perfectly reasonable, and $130 is my limit.

So give it a bit and, finances and hobby-priorities willing, I may own one of these new line of flagship Technic vehicles yet...
