LEGO Nostalgia

These midi-scale ships are the perfect size/price/etc for me at least. Still haven't picked up the SSD set, though I finally expect to this spring, and I'm in on all three of these newly announced ones too!

That looks really nice. It was hard for me to judge the scale until I saw the photo of someone holding it. Impressive amount of detail for something that size. I've never bought a Lego Falcon before, but now there's a chance that could change.

They've really started to cut corners on the new UCS kits...

Wow, that's 921 pieces. I was getting angry at the price but I guess there's more to it than it appears

Well, and IMO, the type of pieces and style of build for these "midi" ship kits seems to lend itself to then craft lots of inventive midi-scale creations of our own (whether wholly original or based on existing Star Wars or other sci-fi series ships) versus the sets comprised of bigger pieces for larger-scale models.

Or maybe that's just me, since this is sort of the scale I prefer. Sort of like model building but in Lego format.

I'm still a fan of the hugely complex and interesting builds in the high-end Technics, and some of the UCS kits. The more parts, the more interesting structures, functions and greebling, the more I like them.

That said, sometimes a little 201 piece helicopter hits the spot.

This is the perfect alternative for the "No I won't spend 900 USD on a Lego Set" segment, I would probably buy this at 80-90 bucks if It crossed my way.

Also, I am not a mini-fig guy, but can someone tell me why this mini-fig is in this set?

Just to add to the collectability of it and make fans happy.

Why Darth Malak? Lol

They're putting in bonus minifigs with the 25th Lego Star Wars anniversary sets. I'm not sure how they were chosen (rare figs that wouldn't have a place elsewhere?). Fives is in the Tantive IV boarding diorama for sure and (rumor/spoiler)

Spoiler:

I saw somewhere that Cal Kestis would be showing up too

To get the piece count up to a nice round number?

Edit:

2314 pieces

smh.

2pi is the circumference of a circle, so... nerd joke?

No pics, because I'm taking my time, but as someone who hasn't made a Technik set in decades, the Dune Ornithopter is incredibly cool. The instructions highlight what each seemingly random assortment of hinges and stems will inevitably do, which honestly really amps up the excitement.

I'll have to hope that some of the minifigs end up at the minifig store, so I can modify Paul Atreides into Paul Muad'Dib.

Currently there's a Lego promotion of a Classic Space Micro Rocket Launchpad ... free with $200 purchase (ouch). It comes with 2 Space Babies, and micro builds of a few Classic Space sets.

Well I pulled the trigger on a few sets I'd had my eye on for a while. The Tranquil Garden, Polaroid Camera and Retro Camera 3-in-1 are coming my way now along with the Classic Space gift with purchase.

The Tranquil Garden is amazing. You have chosen well, Tscott-san.

Need suggestions. I completed the Space Shuttle Endeavor and I'm thinking about hanging it from the ceiling in my office. Any thoughts on best way to hang builds like these?

Did you check out this guy's tutorial? From DuckBrick. Seems almost brutally practical.

It really is a beautiful set with no "bad" side to view it from. Plus it has built in the ability to move some trees/bushes around so if you are displaying with only one view, you can adjust things so that things look best from that angle.

The build process was very zen-like too. There are 11 numbered bags- but each has a clear purpose, where you clearly know you're building "this section" and when you finish the bag you've finished that area. It makes it very easy to build over several sessions and not get lost when you get back as to what step you left off on.

I still need to find a good place to put it, but here's mine after completing it.

I've thought about getting that set a few times but I don't really have a place to put it.

Finally lego has heard my demands!:

Update: It arrived at my house a few days ago. The box looks cool, I just need to find a few hours to assemble it.

I put that Millenium Falcon set together. It is the perfect size for my home office. It feels way better than the original set I built as a kid that fell apart in an earthquake and I didn't have the heart to put it all back together.

Picked up mine last weekend. Still in “looking at the unopened box” phase.

Lego Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale announced. Too bad its $360. I was hoping they'd come in with a cheaper dragon and one or two figs.

All the monsters are so neat. The Gelatinous Cube and the Displacer Beast!

Should have been the fat dragon but it's ok I guess

I just finished the succulents set!

They do crowd each other when they're all connected like the instructions suggest. I'm going to rearrange them into several smaller groupings around my desk.

I was thinking about picking this up. Would you recommend it?

I would! It's like a Lego small-plates menu -- each of the plants builds up quickly. I put them together a couple at a time over the past week, while unwinding from work.
