I think it was that level of authenticity that 'got me'.

So does mine!

He's also getting his own spaceship set soon.

I laughed too hard at "SPACESHIP! SPACESHIP!"

...I may have to see this movie.

It is a sweet ship. I especially love ships that have detachable sub-ships like this one seems to.

I have plenty of unbroken chinstraps you animal!

Detachable sub-ships, and light and sound! Maybe my flashiest set when I was a kid:

Oh man I totally had that one! Loved it! Turn the knob for weird sirens!

I may have a problem.

After a long, hard, cold, well paying night, I treated myself to this. IMAGE(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/squigherder/3ED5072D-7CAA-4721-A443-2AF612C28EA6_zpstvhdjjdx.jpg)

I'm really liking these display models. I was tempted to get the Simpsons house, as it seems to be listed as only available for an extremely limited time and only to VIP Club members, but I had my eye on that X-Wing ever since I had a hard time finding the R2-D2.

I'm thinking I might get that Tower Bridge set sometime later.

If you want a really big, really involved display piece, get the Super Star Destroyer. Looks like this when it's done:

So monochrome! Still that is pretty awesome.

Ermagerd! I knew there was a Star Destroyer, but didn't know there was a Super Star Destroyer!

Ugh, I really want one of those display sets, the X-Wing, SSD or B-Wing but they're like 350-500 bucks!

Well, I think the Death Star and the Super Star Destroyer are the last in that price range. If it makes you feel better, it comes out to something like a dime per brick.

R2 was $230, and the x-wing was $250 (CAD) plus tax. Which is odd because R2 had about 600 more pieces, but I think they were smaller and there were less custom pieces. Both came with an R2 minifigure though.

And to simplify the process, I think the B-Wing is out of print. They are releasing a new B-Wing this year though that's a bit more minifigure size.

I have one of those - I got it when I was about 12 or 13 so I never really "played" with it or mixed it with any other sets - it's still in really good condition, I even have most of the original box

Too bad, the B-Wing is one of my favorite ships. I would have loved to pick it up in big display form.

Sometimes when Lego releases sets, they are available to VIPs only for the first 1/2 month or so, and then to the public. VIP is just signing up for their card - there is no cost. You get a $5 coupon for every $100 spent, so it's like getting a 5% discount when you buy off of the Lego store. Between my kids and I, we have gotten way too many $5 coupons. I believe that the Simpsons house will be more available in February. Since it is a bigger set ($200) I imagine that it will be around for a while, but you only will be able to get it through the Lego store.

Personally, I have my eye on it, but it's not in the budget. Yet.

Here's my questionable Lego purchase of 2013.

It's currently sitting next to my bed. [Insert compensation joke here.]

My wife is an architecture (and LEGO!) buff, so she will be getting this for her upcoming birthday:

I hope she will be needing a helping hand

Wow, I hadn't heard of the architecture line, that's pretty awesome. My sister-in-law is an urban planner, I think she might get a kick out of some of these.

I do like the architecture line - just got the White House for Christmas. I love the look of Falling Water, and wouldn't mind having a mini city of all the skyscrapers they've put together.

I've got that one! It's fantastic. Be sure to set aside some time to watch North by Northwest as well.

About how big and complex are these? Some of them look pretty small on lego.com

Well, Falling Water isn't that big, but the pieces are all very small, so it takes a few hours to build.

I was condensing my LEGO sets in the attic this past weekend (taking the set out of brown cardboard boxes and bags and placing them into totes) and I hurt my back. I have been out of work all week. On the bright side, I found a few that were not on my list, including one of the original Hogwart's Castle sets.

Did I tell you I love LEGO's?

I just got the complete minfigure series 11 and 12 (The LEGO Movie). They are awesome.

I bought 3 at the store the other day and they were all the barista dude.

It was times like that that just made me suck it up and buy the complete sets from eBay. I paid $50.00 for series 11 and $60.00 for series 12. I figured the extra cost was for the pain and suffering I would've endured getting duplicate after duplicate.

Now I have sets 1-12 (excluding Mr. Gold which I think was the biggest slap in the face to all the collectors out there).

The ones I've seen are pretty tiny.

I don't know that any of the architecture sets are more than 500 or so pieces.
