Civilization V Catch-All

I'll be picking up the 50 dollar version. Plus if you preorder on steam you get the map pack with the standard edition, not that it's much. It sucks that dlc is hitting Civ 5, but when I look at the amazing success other company's have had with it I can't blame them.

Personally I'm surprised that the base game is $50 considering recent trends. I think all new PC games will go to $60 in the near future. Not just to match console pricing and inflation but also to compensate for the aggressive digital sales. Early adopters are where you can squeeze out more profit.

Hopefully this game will come to Impulse and that's where I'll buy it. Now I just wait for a sweet sweet 10 dollar deal for CivIV complete from them. No idea why, but I have a weirdly fierce loyalty to Impulse.

Incredibly doubtful with the Steamworks integration. Impulse and D2D in the past have said they won't sell a product that forces their consumers to use one of their competitors.

Once again, more expensive for Australians

Looks like i'll have to organise with a nice person to get it at US pricing...

I cant wait for this game to come out - the problem is I almost failed out of the Naval Academy when the original came out. Hopefully I am much more disciplined and mature now... probably not.

The loss of religion stings a bit. I genuinely liked that aspect of Civ IV.

Glad I'm not the only one.

Looking forward to what they do with this one.

Truly...spreading my religion(s) is a big part of my Civ IV experience, I'm not into Civ combat/warfare that much, I prefer to subdue the other civs with my unmatched wit and espiritual enlightment.

I'm similar. I never was good at combat until I got armor which is very late game. The most fun ways claiming cities through culture and religion. Very Borg like. Usually I just kept the army powerful enough at each city to prevent it from getting overrun.

I would guess religion is being held back for inclusion in an expansion pack. There's no reason to pull it.

I'm not buying this on launch day. Sid Meier has a great p.r. department (Railroads!, RRT3, anyone?) which has led me down the primrose path before, and Civ III on launch day was an unplayable mess.

Plus.. You are already IN the Navy at this point, what's to fail now!?

My wife just recently got heavily into Civ 4... When I say heavy I mean I went into her office and found pages of research trees written down and crossed out as she tried different research techniques. This is probably the first game I'm going to simul-buy on steam for the both of us.

Pre-ordered on Steam today. I. Am. A. Giant. Tool.

Pre-ordering on Steam is SO tempting, but I prefer a boxed copy for a game like this. I wants me a manual and hopefully a poster.

Civ 5 Community Site... Updated with podcast and "Meet the Developers".

The podcast link seems borked right now.

This game can't come out soon enough! Wish it would heh..

Actually, I think the game is coming out too soon--I need a couple more months to finish my graudate work before Civ 5 sucks up all of my free time!

Release date is official: Sept 21 for North America, and Sept 24 for the rest of you blokes.

I am not seeing as much coverage of Civ at E3 as I would like. Am I looking in the wrong places?

I know the Shack News guys have been talking about covering it like crazy, but I haven't seen anything yet. The main floor just opened today, right? No, that was yesterday....

Hey, where's all the Civ V coverage?

Art Deco, again?

Troy Goodfellow has a 15 minute interview with Jon Shafer on Three Moves Ahead.

The website hasn't been updated yet, but you can pull it out of the RSS feed.

There are also some great new screenshots on Shacknews: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle....

They show off modern units, ranged bombardment, combat screen, city screen, and other cool UI elements.

So excited for this! The cuts scenes even look good. I love the way the interface and menus look. Makes me want to go bust out some Civ4, but there are too many damn other games to play. I've never played multi-player, because I assume it will take a decade to finish one game. Has anyone had good, quick-ish fun with multi-player Civ4?

We started a pitboss game (1 turn/day) about six months ago, and I only just got gunpowder. I'm betting the game will still be going strong by the time Civ 5 is released.

Could probably go quicker if you set up a game day, especially if you play with people in time zones somewhat similar to yours.

Pitboss games are a pretty awful way to do multiplayer. We've had good, quick-ish fun with real-time games on the weekends. Haven't done it in a long time though. "Quick-ish" being like 3 hours.

To each his own. I really like the turn-a-day thing. Except for everybody leaving halfway through the game, anyway.

My ultimate wish for Civ V is the ability to start it up every day and bring up the list of all the games I'm in and take my turns in them.

Thanks, I might have to try that. 3 hours isn't too bad.

They call it "simultaneous turns" mode, I believe.

I have purchased every CIV product made and 90% on day 1.

This time not just am I not purchasing on day 1, I seriously doubt I will ever buy. The way they went with CIV 4 and to hear CIV 5 is even more in that direction... uggg

No thanks

I can't be 100% sure, but I think that might be the first negative word I've ever seen written about Civ IV.

I can't wait for this game. God I love Civ 4. Pre-ordered on Steam as soon as it was available.
