I get the feeling I should know the answer to this one, but I'm frustrated and asking for help.
In Firefox 22.0 running on Windows 7, the entire FF window is blurry and the icons/text are distorted. This is as if it is being magnified. I've checked everything I consider standard, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Other windows are fine. Other FF browsers on OSX or Ubuntu are fine and synced to same account. Blur and distortion includes icon set and toolbars NOT just website content. Text really looks like bad cleartype settings.
Things I've done:
- cntr-0 to reset zoom (and increased/decreased zoom)
- checked windows clear-type settings
- enabled/disabled hardware acceleration in FF adv. settings
- minimized/maximized windows
- reboot
- un/re installed firefox. Removed from sync. deleted local profiles
At this point I'm starting to wonder about two things. One: is there a windows accessibility feature that zooms/magnifies on an application-by-application basis? Two: am I forgetting something embarrassingly basic?
thanks
The v22 release notes have this:
Check your windows scaling in the "make text and other items larger or smaller" in the resolution changer control panel.
edit: Just checked on mine, and it seems to be working as advertised, increasing windows scaling scales up Ff too. 2D bitmap stuff (favicons, etc) are a little blurred as you'd expect, but not what I'd call distorted.
Thanks scratched. I do have my setting set to 125% that may be the cause of it. I may just have been sensitive to the change, because while I can see a little blurring, it is no longer bothersome. I don't know if I reset something or if I was imagining it, or if I just got used to a minor change that seemed glaring at first. Thanks for the research and effort.
It's a bit odd because some UI elements are clearly made for scaling and some aren't, even within firefox there's a mix.
Too much porn. It's affecting your eyesight.
CTRL + mousewheel increases and decreases font sizes. There may be an issue there?

And Ctrl-0 (zero) resets it.
That zooming shouldn't make fonts blurry though, as it doesn't do a pixel resize for the text zoom even before Ff22, it draws it at a larger size. For 2D bitmap page elements, well that's what it's got to work with so they'll just be resized as best it can. With fonts it can make more information to make the rendering better, more pixels equal smoother curves, etc, but with bitmaps it can't create the information.
I had something similar happen to me. Turned out to be the hardware acceleration used by Firefox didn't like my laptop's video card. You can Google how to turn it off.
