Satellite Reign - Spiritual successor to Syndicate (Kkstr)

Pages

Welp, had to happen sooner or later: A kickstarter for a spiritual successor to Syndicate.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

Satellite Reign is a real-time, class-based strategy game. You control a team of four agents, each with distinct and unique abilities, collectively battling for control of a fully simulated, living cyberpunk city.

The game world is designed to facilitate emergent gameplay, giving you the tools and freedom to play how you want to play, so you can create strategies and scenarios that not even we had anticipated!

Customise your team with the strength to destroy your enemies head-on, or hack into their facilities to manipulate their infrastructure without them ever knowing you were even there.

Will you take down your enemies with brute-force? Covert espionage and infiltration? Or will you use propaganda to influence the citizens of the city and overthrow the controlling powers?

Satellite Reign will be released on Windows, Mac OS and Linux.

I'm in: managed to get one of the last 4 "early bird" pledges for £29 including Beta access, Art and sountrack.

Reference to this?

Someone needs to Kickstart a spiritual successor to the 2012 Syndicate ^_^

Most certainly

Backed this earlier today for more than I should've but not at a totally stupid amount.

Looking good, complete with music from the original composer to boot! This ones on my watch list.

Actually, that's their first stretch goal

18 days to go and they're most of the way to the goal. This RPS interview from a week or so ago has me really hopeful this will be worth it.

I backed it. I'm hopeful.

And yet there is lots of information:

  • Agents can and will die!
  • If your agents body dies their consciousness is removed and implanted into a new body.
  • Agents will keep their skills and abilities which are carried across with their consciousness.
  • New agents are cloned from a selection of bodies back at base.
  • New bodies can be obtained by multiple means, like: purchasing them from the black market or harvesting them from the population.
  • Cloned bodies have genetic traits that give small bonuses to your agents.
  • Agents lost in the field will lose their augmentations and equipment but if you are fast enough you can salvage the corpse for spare parts or we have multiple insurance packages available to suit your needs.

    Classes

  • Your squad is comprised of 4 different agents, each with their own class or speciality: Soldier, Support, Assassin or Hacker.
  • This is only the agents starting point.
  • You are free to customise each of your agents to be fully combat oriented, fully espionage oriented, or anything in-between.
  • Agents will be able to be customised by giving them different augmentations, skills / abilities, weapons and gear.
  • Each of these customisation options will allow them to play more of a combat role or an espionage role, or anything in-between.

Wow! Yes please!

There is only one thing I need to know. Do we get a Persuadatron?

I think they said the hacker class is going to have some persuadatron like abilities.

EDIT: Found it...

The hacker can hack into and take over mechs, and augmentation of civilians – he’s an agent which takes the role of the persuadatron in the original Syndicate games

Can they legally use the term "persuadertron?" It's such a great word. A perfect word, in context. It describes what it does in dystopian double-speak and has a goofy "tron" on the back so you know it's a future gadget.

I will kick in for this game... If they let me upgrade my agents with cybernetic skeletons, and if once I give them a cybernetic torso they start breathing all mechanical-like.

And possibly if they don't do those things, too.

But it'd be awesome if they did.

I haven't backed a single kickstarter yet. Several have tempted me, but none like this one. Syndicate is one of my favourite games of all time and I'm strongly considering kickstarting this one.

Steven Dengler (who runs Dracogen which has backed a bunch of big name Kickstarter projects and a handful of other titles) is the evil CEO you'll be taking down. Because of course he is.

Who on earth would have a collar like that?

Walton Simons?

I know... Isn't it dreamy?

This passed it's funding goal.

I love how that video is a call back to the mission victory screen from Syndicate. So glad this was funded, although I'm curious what Paradox is doing with their "Cabal" project they announced last year.

Last I read, Cabal was on the shelf. As in on hold. If I remember the quote, the game was not turning out how they hoped it would and the devs had to go back to the drawing board. Note that I am interpreting something that I vaguely remember reading, so NaCl, etc.

Edit: Also Cabal no longer appears on the Paradox Upcoming Games forums.

I am glad this game got funded. I am looking forward to seeing the final product. It seemed a likely reboot for Kickstarter.

Let's hop they make the 20-ish K they need to get Russel Shaw on board!

They also hit their stretch goals for:

- Russell Shaw (Syndicate composer)
- Localisation (French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian and Czech [On top of English])
- Environmental destruction

Thanks for that video, Edwin. I'd not seen that! Looks really nice already!! I have to say that it looks like they already have a pretty solid base for this. Surprised it's not gotten more backing!

I hope this does well. Really enjoyed Syndicate Wars.

There's a couple of issues, some are cultural (Americans are apparently less likely to back projects only taking GBP), some are issues with the tier structure (access to the game starts at $24? I think and they only had 1000 early bird slots) and finally Syndicate just isn't well known outside of Europe which is sad.

Also, if they don't meet the stretch goals for additional factions the devs said they'll put them out as post-release DLC. Paid DLC obviously, but I'm glad we're going to eventually see that content at some point.

Really happy we'll have Russel Shaw and destructible environments at launch

Xenophobes! That is weird about the GBP thing... I have to say I don't understand it myself it's just digital currency stated in both £ and $. As for syndicate nit well known in the US I am very surprised - especially given the American-themed expansion.

Awesome!

That engine looks awesome. Can't wait!

You mean the one where America rebels and Eurocorp sends you to re-conquer it?
