WarThunder (not World of Planes) - Catch All

Yeah, arcade is very fun if you don't have a stick and just won't to do some dogfighting

A buddy of mine plays on a Macbook of some kind, through Boot Camp. I believe he runs the graphics on low. They have a weird glitch where, if your rig isn't up to snuff the tail wobbles real bad; to fix it you need to turn the graphics way down.

I forgot how big the client was. I'm not going to try to download it over hotel internet. Maybe try it when I'm home this weekend.

Haven't played any rounds, but it seems like it will run on low. If I go down to 1366x768 (low settings), it gets in the 40 fps range on the first benchmark. I think it might actually run at native 1600x900 res, too.

Looks to be a 1.5xp weekend!

If you didn't get a chance to see their April Fools gag, you ought to. I thought it was hilarious!

It was even funnier playing as the ponies.

Anybody still playing? I haven't played in awhile, but am getting the itch to get some games in.

i play once or twice a week. Im level 5 with the US and level 2/3 with the others.

FYI open beta for the actual War of Planes should be starting up in the next month or so...

World of Warplanes open beta starts at the beginning of July, think it's the second or third.

Has it gotten better? The impressions I got when it first came out was that Warthunder was better done.

Not in my opinion; although I can't stand flying in WT since the last major update (1.29?) but, Warplanes is just god awful.

Edit: Apparently War Thunder just dropped patch 1.31; I am checking it out now.

Are you Tigerbill, or Tigerbill13?

MannishBoy wrote:

Both actually, TigerBill is my main, Tigerbill13 is an alt I created to play with low level German planes, without having to redo my lineup all the time.

I just got done flying a battle. They did (in my opinion) start to fix whatever they had broken in the German FM's. I will need to put more time into this to fully decide.

god i hate when they drop updates. Damn thing takes FOREVER to update for me. Takes almost as long to update their 1-5gb as it does to download 15gb from Korea.

I played WoWP when I first got beta access last year and wasn't terribly impressed. It's vastly improved now over what it was, but I can't help but think that it'd be that much better if I had a joystick.

OK, added both you guys as friends.

I'm level 3 on US, and lower on German and British. Just bought a couple of P36s. Those must be energy fighters, and I'm not very good playing those. Got to remember to keep getting altitude before engaging.

Apparently, people are saying that playing with the mouse is actually better and easier than joystick.

The game is certainly miles better than it used to be. It's actually pretty slick and polished at the moment. But it has to be your bag of tea.

--Edit--
For me, I think the biggest difference between it and WoT is the pace. In WoT, the pace is deliberate. Something happens because you made it happen. In WoWP things are happening with or without your input. You're only attempting to control the chaos that goes on already on your screen.

I'm going to give this a try at some point.

I've friended up a few of you.
I'm registered as groaner

I don't see you when I search for groaner.

Hmm,
from the gaijin site
IMAGE(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7779045/warthunderprofile.JPG)
but you're right, i dont see me either.
I searched for Mannishboy and nothing showed.

AHA, it registered me as Groan39611.
I hate that. I may create a new profile. Stand by.

Edit,
well it doesn't liek that either. Maybe I need to log into the game first. I'll report back later.
I was able to find and add TheWanderer1, karmajay and ranalin

Edit again,
Logged out and back in.
Now I am to be found as Groaner. With a Capital 'G'. I just searched for myself and I am found.

Still don't see you when I search in game. I'll try later.

BTW, on low rank ground attack missions, nobody seems to really go after ground targets. So if you're not any good (like me), just go after ground stuff. I just was top of the leaderboard because I got 15 ground kills and one air to air kill, while dying 4 times (3 times to *$#@$ rammers). Team won, too. Other team was all about the air kills, and the next highest ground kill player had 4.

I'll try that. I tried ground targets but my little guns wouldnt do much to the armored vehicles. I got a few hits in but no shoot downs.

I tried to bring up this thread to add some folks in game but it appeared down. my friends list on the website did not transfer to the game so I'll have to try later.

it was fun though. I like the ease of flying. lets you concentrate on getting kills instead of staying in the air worrying about sensors and pushing the right pedal.

OK, I was finally able to add you now that you've been in game.

We should get a few of us and do some of the custom missions sometime.

Ok, so I've spent some time with War Thunder now, as well as a solid amount of time in WoWP(nearly 500 battles)

I don't know if WT was ever truly better than WoWP, but I can't for the life of me see it as it stands now. Flying is far clunkier in WT, combat is awful in lower tier aircraft(forget shooting down anything, even if you're glued to their tail). Overall, it feels far worse than WoWP ever has to me.

how is work for a novice flyer? I need the easy arcade flight model so if it gets too sim-y I won't enjoy it.

The controls aren't difficult at all, the mouse/keyboard stuff works the same here as it does in pretty much every other game involving actual flight I've played, just point and you go.

Ok. I'll try it, submitted my beta request.

Not having played WoWP, I can't compare. However, you can definitely get kills with low level planes. I just killed 3 with level 1 British planes (I think I'm pilot level 2 in the RAF) a second ago, and it would have probably been 5, except I was twice rammed right before completing a kill by friendlies.

I'll sign up for WoWP to compare, though.

What mode are you palying and what are you using for controls? Personally I play exclusively Arcade with Mouse controls and, would say it a far better game than Warplanes. Then again I've only logged maybe 15 flights in Warplanes; where in WT I'm almost a rank 19 overall. I have each country up to at least lvl 5 and the Germans to 15.
