Rogue Legacy 1 & 2

I gotta say my first impressions of the sun tower agree with those above. It does not seem fun. Plus I'm struggling to even take 2K gold where on the last level I'd frequently get 4-8K. When I get a good gold % earn bonus I may need to go through the other levels instead.

I found a happy medium. Increased resource gain mod from Nexus Mods. I turned mine up to 100% extra gold. I don't mind grinding but I do mind wasting my time. This feels like a happy medium between just cheating and adding gold to my character sheet and spending another 15+ hours of unhappy grinding to see the end

Thank you for posting that, Staygold. There is a high chance I'll end up using it soon.

By the way, RL2 has a bunch of cool "difficulty" options called "house rules" that you can change in the pause menu. I love how many different things they let you adjust, but this should be one of them!

Thanks, I'll have to keep that in mind. I got a bit of a second wind after beating the last boss. I need to find the boss on this level to see how tough they are. I definitely don't enjoy navigating the Sun Tower like I did the other levels.

Resource drop rate increase is probably the best mods I can think of for games that want you to spend hours grinding. It is the ONLY reason I made it through FF12. I enjoy engaging with a game and it's mechanics, but do not make run in circles just to make the numbers go up enough to get through a gate for more than a short while.

Darkest Dungeon was like that. Arbitrary inventory limits for items. You can carry 4 of these but 12 of these even though they all take up 1 square. And using those items for cash and upgrades between missions. So if you have a good run but have to drop half the stuff you collect then you need another run to make up for it. It was a brutal grind. So I got inventory mod and held 12 (or maybe 20?) of everything. Game became a lot more enjoyable and it felt like you were making progress instead of being punished the entire time

I finally made it to the Sun Tower boss with my knight and promptly locked the level. I’ve lost to the boss several times but I think I can win with a good starting boon, like 2x the HP. I don’t care if I don’t get any gold for beating the boss, I don’t want to unlock the level

Edit: Got 'em with 31 hp to spare!

Patch 1.02 yesterday gives +20% gold generation while in the Sun Tower - among many MANY other fixes and improvements.

Every time I get to a new area I feel like I'm never going to progress. I got to Tubal now and it seems like I'm having a hard time even damaging him much. I got him close to the half way point, but not there. I'm level 152 now.

Edit: I need someone to come here and pry the controller from my hands and make me play something else please.

I made it to the last boss, and like all the others he seems difficult!

Huh I did feel like I made more money last night in there. But still a crappy run.

I had another run I went to the study for the last lore I was missing and then back to the snow because I was low health and then finally to sun to die and made like 17k from that one.

But still, mostly stuck on Sun Tower. Took 2 or 3 days break but it didn't help. Sometimes a short break like that refreshes you and you come back and get through the thing that has you stuck

Couldn't help myself and despite the backlog picked this up yesterday and promptly sunk 4 hours into it. Only got to the first boss a handful of times but getting better each run!

For anyone who is worried if this game gets old in new game plus, I'm here to tell you it really starts changing things up and increasing the challenges.

As of New Game +3, where I am now, the game is still kinda the same but enemies have changed and it feels like I'm starting the game anew.

Also, a great game to listen to a podcast with.

Yeah I noticed something in the patch notes where there were saying about half the content was after you beat the game once. Really need to push through Sun Tower...

If I ever make it to the damn boss room I'm locking until I beat it. Never again with that stupid map

I feel like I'm hitting a bit of a wall with the Sun Tower, I find it significantly more unfair and less enjoyable than the previous areas. Interior rooms feel very narrow and crowded so dodging becomes way harder, and hitting the storm clouds or the windmills in the exterior parts to get knocked down is very frustrating. Still enjoying the game and trying to power through it, but I've done a bunch of runs in this area and only managed to get two pieces of lore and no other significant progress.

Beat the first boss No idea where to go now but I suppose it's exploring time.

I hear ya. I've even gotten to the boss a few times and failed pretty miserably. It's a tough area, for sure, even despite me being WAYYY up there in castle level - much higher, I think, than some of the folks around here who have finished the game.

Even despite that level of frustration, I still enjoy the moment-to-moment platforming and combat, and the consistent feeling of (tiny bits of) progress, so it's not too burdensome.

If you're just trying to push through the zone, the Astromancer pretty much trivializes the entire place.

The boss of the Sun Tower has proven to be my biggest road block so far. I don't have too much of a problem navigating the zone, but once I hit the end... time for a new heir.

Well, as with so many other folks around here, as soon as I complained about the Sun Tower's boss, I defeated it. Onward!

Really? I think I've only used it twice and did not like it. I'll try to level it up and think a bit more about the best way to use it.

You don't need to level it up. Your ability is to turn into an invincible, freely-directed fireball and it's on a timed cooldown. You can collect every chest and bypass every exterior platforming challenge in the tower without ever putting yourself at risk.

Ah, I see. One of my constant problems in this game is that I don't use my talent and spells enough.

At least tonight I made it to the fifth boss for the first time and managed to get it below 50% health. That's progress! I guess...

Beat boss six with castle level at about 250. Took a first try at the final boss, looks like I'm going to have to do some grinding.

I just can't get the Astromancer to show up in the heir rotation. I've only seen once after unlocked it.

Have you worked on scars? Because there's an unlock there that lets you set a specific class in the rightmost spot every time. You can use that to guarantee a class for the next run.

I used it for Ranger for a while since I seemed to beat every boss with them and I've used it for Ronin more lately because he's just fun.

There's also a castle upgrade that gives you more choices but it's like 24k gold? I nearly had it one run last week, where I did all the zones because banging my head against Sun Tower was no fun and I got like 22k

I had to give up on the last boss, at least for a while. No regrets playing it even of I don't finish. I had a lot of fun getting to the point I did.

My recommendation for the Sun Tower boss is to switch "sides" often. Their attacks are often asynchronous speeds so you can dash over to one and hit it, then dash over to the other in between the attacks. I think the Valkyrie works best, since dash attack auto crits so you can just crit back and forth.

Then when the "new" phase starts I use Valkyrie's down attack and go "Duck Tales" bouncing on the bottom boy.

These bosses remind me so much Metroid Dread. They seem impossible at first but eventually the patterns come out in each attack and then you can feel like a god when you figure the secret to dodge them 90% of the time.

Yeah the scar challenges have been fun. Oh I can take 2 Lamech at the same time? Yeah why was he hard haha

I can't, apparently.

Finally, Sun Tower!

As you guys suggested, Astrologer made it easy to get to the top. Then I locked in... and did 20 or 25 attempts. Tried a few different classes, but once again Ranger ended up being my best. Gives you a lot of time to DPS when you stand on platform out in the middle and are blocked from some projectiles.

Now to unlock and finally go to last area. I feel like I'm still missing a power from Sun Tower but... ugh, it's awful there. I don't want to go back.
