World of Warships

I've been dabbling with this the past few weeks. It's great fun! Turns out I'm more of a destroyer captain than anything else.

I play almost exclusively as battleships. BB gameplay at the moment is, well, it's a thing that you can do. I wouldn't exactly call it "fun" however, not enough consistency. All too often you can perfectly aim a salvo and do nothing but get the enemy ship wet.

I should have mentioned that my name in the game is BushPilot204, I'm currently running in the tier 3/4 range. Look me up for a few rounds!

I tried the battleships a bit, but it wasn't as fun as the cruisers and destroyers. It's very slow, and all too often your team, especially the other battleships, seems to want nothing to do with you. Perhaps ranked is better.

Bush thanks for the games they were really fun, i can see how awesome it would be to make a division of like 4/5 people and just take a wing all together especially with voice chat.

So far i've only captained Cruisers i'm trying to rush to get to Tier IV specifically the Aircraft carriers, i want to get all 4 classes at tier IV and try them all out i figure that will give me the best idea as to what i really like playing dabbled a bit with the first american destroyer and torps are definitely fun just don't get caught out in the open or kaboom

oh and again Cayne912 inside the game.

I am also playing this pretty often in the evenings and my name in game is the same as here.

I have been working my way up the cruiser lines for the various countries, I think I like the German ones the best so far at rank 2 and 3.

Having played a friend for most of my time in the game it is amazing how much of a difference just having two ships coordinating can make.

Yes, I think lack of consistency is what killing BBs for me. One game I would kill 4 ships, do like 5 citadels and very respectable damage, the next game all my shots go around the enemies, I go down with like 15K damage and I want to apologize to my team "Sorry guys, it's not that I am bad at BBs, it's just the game decided to be like this this fight".

On the other hand, destroyers is just pure fun all the freaking time. I've got IJN and Soviet DDs at tier 6 (no money to buy the IJN one yet though) and, man, they are so much fun, I've decided to stop playing other classes for now. I don't have that much playing time these days and I want to play what's the most fun and for me it's DDs at the moment.

I've heard that the german cruisers get very accurate guns, I may halt BB progress and switch over to them for a while.

From what I've seen of destroyer gameplay it's all about the same. Life is suffering until you get to the point where the range of your torpedoes exceeds your detection radius.

Starting at tier 5 German cruisers are both accurate and have long range guns.

It happens pretty quick on the Japanese destroyer line - my tier III (fully upgraded) has 7km torpedo range and 6.1km detection radius. It's a small sweet spot, but it works.

Had a few good games tonight with Cayne - thanks Cayne. Well, maybe not good games, as we lost pretty much everything, but it's definitely more fun when you've got voice chat with a teammate or two.

I am unequivocally terrible at battleships.

Not really. IJN destroyers are torpedo oriented from the very beginning but US and Soviet destroyers are not. IIRC US destroyers get "longer than detection" torps at tier 9 and Soviets never do.

Instead their gameplay is centered around guns. US DDs are kind of hybrid, positioned in between awesome IJN torps and awesome Soviet guns, their torps are shorter than IJN but longer than Soviets and their guns are better than IJN but worse than Soviets.

I don't really play the US DDs (not since closed beta), I decided to experience two extremes - IJN and Soviets. I am loving both of them. Very unique, very interesting gameplay.

Especially Soviet DDs. They are kind of like light cruisers with smoke, great speed and maneuverability and with great range and accuracy on their pretty powerful guns.

Thanks Bushpilot, and yeah Hedinn i agree with you on the DD's i had been playing with the US DD's but switching to the IJN DD's is much more rewarding for me.

Do we have a list of GWJ'ers who play ?

The problem with IJN DDs is that they are LOTS of fun to play in lower tiers but are a lot less fun and a lot less effective in higher tiers for the following reasons:

1. Torpedo cooldown increases with every tier. IIRC starting with tier 6, the CD stops being comfortable.
2. BB and cruiser drivers become more aware about the need to do constant left-right and slow-fast adjustments and it becomes much more difficult to catch them.

Still, it's a very unique gameplay and very rewarding when it works.

Add me to the list of regular World of Warships players. My name in the game is the same has here, and I'm going to try to tie World of Warships into my Steam account this weekend.

I'm usually on playing a few games in the late evening, around 8:00 to 10:00 pm, and I've been focusing on IJN battleships and destroyers. I have mid-tier ships in each class.

Also, has anyone heard if Wargaming is going to provide the equivalent of the World of Tanks clan system for World of Warships? I'm kind of surprised they haven't done so yet.

I am playing under the handle Garrcia (shocking).

I'm pretty regular with the game (in spurts). I believe my in-game nick is moondrgn. My ships span from tier 3 (for the new countries) to 7. My preference are cruisers and destroyers, but I do have US battleship (New York) that I'm slowly grinding through.

added all of you lets blow some stuff up I wonder what the biggest division you can create is...

IIRC it's 2 people, or 3 if one of them has premium. Back in beta they had people rolling with triple carriers, they patched that out quickly.

Unfortunately, the largest division size is three, which makes a little bit of sense, even if it is a bit of a pain. I wish there was at least an option to set up a private game so that you can get a big group together if you want.

I suppose if you had multiple divisions you could select the same tier, start matchmaking at the same time, and hope for the best - you'd be in different games or at least on different teams a lot, but you'd be together sometimes.

EDIT: we've been running divisions of 3 without premium

They ditched the premium requirement a while back.

I seem to be playing this one in waves. It grabs me for a few days and then I'm good for awhile. Once you pass rank 4, they sure start slowing things down on the exp side. I also didn't think the credits was going to be a big deal, but starting with rank 6 and 7 ships, the prices just get crazy compared to what you bring in each round.

Trying to rank up my American Cruisers, but after loving life in the Rank 6 Cleveland which has been my favourite ship so far, the Pensacola is just painful. Just a big giant citadel everyone seems to target right away as they blow up really easily.

Mostly I'm playing rank 4 and 5 with a couple of BB's and other nation's Cruisers in the late evening. Feel free to throw me an invite. In game name is Impulse91.

And I can't stand playing as BB i much prefer being a DD captain although i am trying out aircraft carriers. The Phoenix on the American Tier V is interesting having torpedoes but coming from the St. Louis' i'm like where are all the guns?

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Looks cool, but, uhm...ya...ok

That show is why people are forever shouting "poi!" in this game, right?

I've actually come around to battleships a bit. It's not as fast-paced and exciting as destroyers, but it's still quite tactical. You constantly need to be thinking about who you have your best chance of a citadel against, where your opponents and allies are (and where they're going to be), where your guns are pointing, and where you need your guns to be pointing next. In every situation you need to decide whether you show your broadside to bring your guns to bear, or hide it so that it's harder to hit you. The long reload time forces you to choose your shots very carefully, as a missed volley is tragic when you only get 30 or so in a game. The thing I dislike is the big spread on battleship shells compared to destroyers and cruisers. It's frustrating to spend a long time lining up the perfect shot only to be robbed by the random number generator.

I still haven't tried carriers - they look completely different.

Nope. This is all from Arpeggio of Blue Steel. Kantai Collection is where Poi! comes from.

So the Arpeggio event is on now I think. What can you actually get from it and is there any point in playing it?

I don't know, I decided to completely ignore this event.

I think that you can get the ships advertised. Either a specially painted/narrated Kongo and/or Myoko. They can only be used in the special port. I'm not sure if there is a special mode in which they play.

The event is well worth it. You do some interesting missions that make you focus on destroying different enemy types. You get a tier 5 Japanese battleship and a tier 7 Japanese heavy cruiser for free. Plus you get 2 free port slots, bunch of cash, and a lot of flags. You can use the ships in any battle type, they are premium, but they do not earn premium credits. I say go for it. I earned mine and they are fun to play.
