Really liked that mansion quest.
Agreed, the challenge quests are really good if you have a group. Solo, not so much.
So my ranger experiment is bearing delicious fruit. Sadly my BAB is low enough at level 2 that equipping 2 of the temporary hit point proc scimitars is less than perfect. But, I have looted a kinetic? dagger that has a chance to do 3-18 damage to a foe and 1-6 damage to me. The light weapon in the offhand makes dual wielding more efficient with my low BAB.
Aside from that, my Ranger is also almost level 3 (rank 10) and has completed most of the waterworks quest line. I only have the tunnelworm part left.
I have to say that it seems the favored enemy enhancements for the ranger are especially powerful. And I believe rangers get to choose a new favored enemy every 5 (4?) levels.
Is there any really good content for level 2-4? Is is all in the purchased adventure packs? I like the guard Jung quest in the Harbor and the betrayer quest on Korthos. The Waterworks quests are okay but too long for my time commitment and to be honest, not as rewarding as the others. I hope there is a good mix of content with a lot of options similar to the former.
I think that one of their design decisions that isn't my favorite, not gaining xp until the quest is completed, does not work well with long quests.
Most of the best content isn't free. If you're playing on the regular I'd recommend going VIP for a month at a time so you have access to everything.
I am late to this party, but would love to play if you still have space...
Surprisingly, Menace of the Underdark is a third off in the Steam sale, so I'll definitely be picking that up at some point. (Standard Steam sale procedure says to wait until the last day of the sale in case it ends up being a daily deal, but that seems unlikely in this case.)
Well damn, I wasn't expecting that... I bought it a few days ago direct from Turbine.
In fact, MotU wasn't even ON Steam a few days ago -- just the Half-Orc Pack, right?
Thank you to the three of you who dragged my little level 2 Paladin along on some Epic quests last night, was a lot of fun!
Happened so fast I can't even remember your names!

It has been up since DDO was released on Steam.
I am not sure how late I will be able to stay on tonight, I might need to go into work early tomorrow.
Weird. I could've sworn I didn't see it on the DLC section of the DDO store page. I would've waited until the Steam sale had I seen it... I'll happily be the token dude that gets burned by a pre-sale purchase, if everyone else buys in and can come along to the Phiarlan Carnival with me.
Edit:

Happy to help. I had a lot of fun too.
Where did you see the expansion for 33% off? It is listed at $49.99 for me.
Try adding it to your cart and checking in there. It worked for me.
I'm seeing MotU at full price, even when put in the cart, but the Half-Orc pack at half price ($10). It may have been caught up in a blanket price cut earlier when it wasn't supposed to. Definitely worth keeping an eye on during the rest of the sale, but sadly no deal for those of us that missed the window.
My apt's internet is out. Posting from phone. I'm sure 4d is hitting enough in my absence.
Just downloaded DDO today. As an old school D&D player, I'm really looking forward to checking it out this weekend.
Is Orien still the server that everyone's playing on? I'd hate to start a character on the wrong server.
Yep, Orien is the server.
So DDO is having a big promotion. There is a trial for the druid class this weekend. And the druid class is going on sale today rather than next month.
I have only been able to put 20 minutes into a druid so far in the trial but I like it a lot.
I wonder if they pulled the expansion from the Steam sale to not compete with Turbine's current promotion. Still, if it gets discounted, I will buy it for sure. The classic adventure pack bundle, the points to buy the monk class, and the druid class are worth my $$$.

I'm REALLY enjoying it, especially after I set my UI config to "FPS Style". It almost feels like a D&D flavoured Skyrim for me at this point.
There's enough differences between PnP D&D that you should read the feats/etc.. before you take them, but enough similarities that you could probably just delve into "custom" character instead of picking one of the preset class categories.
I would really like to recommend staying away from the predefined character paths as much as possible. Most of them end up being really terrible builds with poor stat and feat choices.
I'm pretty much a "Build whatever I want" kinda guy. Never been much for the Min-Max concept myself, as it usually ends up being terribly rote in my experience.
My Bard, for example, is primarily an archer even though everything I've read about it says that I'm doing it wrong. I don't really care though, as long as I'm contributing I'm fine.
Druid/Monk/Fighter Archer build
So what is the run down of that? Monk gives wisdom bonus to AC and evasion (and zen archery? or is that not class specific?). Does monk unarmed damage benefit wildshape melee damage or is this build ignoring wildshape? Why the fighter archer instead of ranger? (feats?) Can any of this be offset by a half elf dilettante in one of the classes? (or perhaps the rogue dilettante for sneak attack)
The one thing right off the bat about the druid is I really think I am going to enjoy the heal over time. (unless it doesn't get great upgrades)
So what is the run down of that?
Novice here, but I assume that it has something to do with the Zen Archery making bows a "Ki" weapon. I would assume that would make all the unarmed benefits of a monk apply to the archery?
Well, I could see trying to pump wisdom for the druid spells and zen archery would make longbows ki weapons and allow you to use wisdom for hit% with the bows.
You could take 2 levels of monk for evasion but if you are going with wisdom for hit% would you tank dex and not have a decent enough reflex save so that evasion is wasted? The levels of fighter I have since determines are for the feats every other level.
edit: Thanks for the post arovin!
