3DS Catch-all

Monster Hunter 4 has been dated for March in Japan and will feature online multiplayer for the first time on a handheld. I cannot express clearly enough how much this excites me. Here's hoping for a 2013 North American launch.

I'm pretty sure that Monster Hunter Ultimate is a test to see if they should bother localizing Monster Hunter 4. So go and buy 20 copies

I'm gonna get it on the Wii U, but I'm almost positive 4 is coming here regardless. MH has seen some pretty dry times in the west, now that they finally have the ball rolling (on a platform that more Western consumers buy) they won't skip a non-incremental release.

To expand my reasoning slightly, think about the inclusion of online play. Japanese people clearly don't care if MH features it or not, it's not a feature (and expense) that they would add without plans to bring it to the other markets, where online is actually a purchase factor.

EXP Hound is the best ability ever. Also, I only just discovered that the Title Character rhythmia bonus applies for *each* title character in your party, which completely changes how I'm going to approach party composition going forward.

I'm sick of FFVII and FFIV music because those are the only two games with three characters -_-

FF7 has Cloud, Aeris and... who is the third?

I just unlocked Faris from FF5. Tell you what, I wish once you got a character, the game would just stop giving you crystal shards for those characters. It would make life much nicer.

Spoiler:

Sephiroth.

I've decided instead of grinding the same dark notes over and over I'm just going to unlock everyone (only 3 characters left anyway) by getting 99,999 Rhythmia. I've already got the two characters that are unlocked by crystals alone. I still like playing in the Chaos Shrine, but I've already got 75k Rhythmia, and I still like playing in general enough to know I'll max out soon enough.

I'm a little bummed though, I think the DLC flow is over. They said there'd be 50+ songs, there are now 52 and nobody's reporting on any new schedule. I've bought 25 of them, for the record.

I don't suppose they'll do a sequel specific to FF, but one feature I would have liked and would like if they make another Theatrhythm would be a random play feature. Just like challenge mode, but on shuffle.

Y'know what I'd have liked? An ability to shut summons off. Once you gain Omnislash or similar abilities it actually becomes a hindrance. The entire time the summon is taking place I KNOW I can have an enemy down, so basically I have to intentionally miss some notes in order to fail the summon just so I have a chance at killing three bosses.

Wait, getting 100k Rhythmia unlocks everyone? I thought you only got 3 of each shard from rhythmia. I'm at 50k rhythmia already, that'd be way faster than grinding dark notes.

+1000, I've considered turning off abilities multiple times to get full critical bar, but then I realize what I would be giving up and just can't do it.

Sorry, I was incorrectly reading the chart I referenced. You can get between two and five crystals through Rhythmia for a most characters, and two don't get any (black and navy). Even if I wasn't wrong, I don't think maxing Rhythmia would be faster, just less repetitive.

Back to the coalmines I suppose. Thankfully all I have left is four golden, six grey, and eight white.

I still haven't even found grey, black, or navy. I'm taking a break from dark notes to level up some more characters, since my original 4 have all hit 99 and it's a waste to let all that XP go unused.

Meh, I have no problem using my original four at 99 to grind. All I need is one Red and two Green and I got two of my ideal unlocked characters, though I believe I still need to get all the Navy ones. I'll use my secondary party to unlock a bunch more notes for that then.

Leave it to Square-Enix to create a rhythm game that requires grinding.

I tried a dark note today. The only item I unlocked on the No. 3 boss was a Yellow Shard. The other two were a mystery. I beat the boss three times in the battle track and received no shards, so I assumed I already unlocked all the characters of the shards I received. I expected to go back to the menu to see something like Indigo and Orange in there.

Nope. Just Yellow Shard with two question marks.

That means I got three Yellow Shards for a character I already unlocked.

What the f*ck game.

Require? Nahhhhhh. You can see the credit roll within 10 hours of starting, and that's a high estimate.

+1. We're not talking about necessary components of the game, this is all bonus material.

I finished the main story/quest in New Super Mario Bros 2 last night, and am now working on finding all those golden coins and secrets! I rather enjoyed the final castle stage. Heck, I really enjoyed that whole final world. Looking forward to seeing how sadistic Nintendo is going to be with the Star worlds.

While on the overworld map, tap the desired world you'd like to go to on the bottom screen with the stylus or press it with your thumb.

I may be missing it, but is there a way to freely move from world to world in NSMB2? I've completed the game once and am running back through it. I'm not sure why that's not a mechanism they've kept from Super Mario World; I always thought it was awesome :)

Touch the world icons on the lower screen.

I'm on world 6 right now. This may be one of my favorite games of the year. And the 3DS XL is way more comfortable than any previous DS. Actually I strangely feel like it isn't *less* comfortable than the Vita. Weird. Not ready to say it's more comfortable, but still...

As soon as I realized what would be necessary to get the extra characters and that I had already sort of missed the boat, I went "Nope" and gave up on that particular bonus material.

Besides, I'm fine with the characters I have.

Any chance you guys could start a Theatrhythm thread for the nitty-gritty talk about shards and dark notes?

Wasn't going to say it, but thanks. It's actually a compliment to Theatrythm. I can't remember the last traditional (i.e. non iOS) portable game that sustained that much specific conversation.

Devil Survivor 1 & 2 are the only ones I can think of. The rest have been confined to either platform catch-alls or the jrpg catch-all (thinking of Tactics Ogre on the latter one there)

I don't think there's really much else to say, but if something else does come to mind I'll go ahead and do just that.

edit: Thanks for the answer I feel like an idiot!

Only if you make a new thread to talk about NSMB 2. Seriously, going over the past 2 pages of posts, here's the breakdown:

Threatythm - 16 posts
NSMB 2 - 20 posts
DS system and other game posts - All the rest

Moving on, I still can't find my system friend code. Where the heck is it?

The orange smiley face, top-middle of the bottom screen. That's where yours is and where you add friends.

Awesome, thanks. Updated my sig with my FC.

Ooh, I gotta get my FC posted too. I could use some actual friend-type-peoples for my poor lonely 3DS.

Between playing Yoshi's Island, Bowser's Inside Story, and that other game, I think I've managed to burn myself out on Mario for a bit.

So I'm in the market for a new game. Honestly not that interested in Theatrhythm at the moment. Maybe an action game? Any recommendations?

I'm currently eying Metal Gear Solid 3 (never did play it on another platform), Resident Evil: Revelations, or just finding a VC game to tide me over until Code of Princess releases.

Both Revelations and MGS3 are great provided you own 3DS Circle Pro (it is bundled with big box edition of Revelations). Since I played MGS3 before I prefer Revelations - just a great game, best Resi since 4 I would say.
