3DS Catch-all

Nintendogs + Cats!!

Nothing in that lineup shots "buy!" for me except my interest in Pilotwings.

Yeah, that's the only one that sounds interesting to me. I think my love of Resident Evil starts and ends with RE4.

Nintendogs was enjoyable for a little while when there weren't many quality games for the DS. No way I'll plop down $290 for the sequel. Looks like I'm waiting.

A little too expensive for me. Back when the DS Lite first came out, I bought two for my wife, and I because they were pretty cheap. While it looks neat, I just don't enjoy handhelds enough to drop that kind of money. They'll come out with a 3DS Lite in a year anyway, and probably drop the price.

I'm at least holding out to see what PSP2 has to offer before deciding.

That's me too. The only thing on that list that interests me is goofing around with Nintendogs + Cats. Otherwise I'm fine with my DS for now. Still playing FFTA2, DQIX, Kingdom Hearts re:coded, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, Mario vs. Donkey Kong and GTA: Chinatown Wars. So I'm nowhere near needing a new system. Especially given that most of what's on offer is more interesting than what's already available on the PSP.

Suddenly I understand why I disagree with 90% of your posts. Completely opposite tastes.

That's a wide swath of games. Open world action game, two JRPGs, a Strat/RPG and a strategy game.

Types of games, yeah, but I like all of those genres.

I just feel those are awful examples, particularly FFTA2. FFTA was decent at best, but they really sh*t the bed with 2. I suppose the Tactics Ogre and FFT fan in me gets in the way.

Eh, there aren't any launch games I'll get. But either way, the single friend code is a great step in the right direction. Totally a day one purchase for me. Today is looking great.

See, that's why I don't understand why you disagree with 90% of my posts. That's what I'm playing currently. And that's what I'm playing because that's what this gen had to offer on the DS. Last gen it was Tactics Ogre, FFTA, Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones, Advance Wars 1 and 2 and many other great games. This gen has been rather mediocre for strategy games unfortunately and I've already played the above games to death.

I should be playing FFT, Jeanne D'Arc and games like that, but I really can't get used to packing the PSP around as a portable.

Now that the 3DS is just around the corner, I figure'd I'd resurrect this thread. Okay, with the US-NZ exchange rate it SHOULD be about $320NZ for me, but because my country seems determined to add a 30-50% premium for all gaming products I'm sure it will end up at $400+.

And I just re-resurrected it. So there.

Those launch games are terrible.

In Development from Third Parties
Crush 3D from Sega

f*ck ya.

I dunno, I've been on the Ridge Racer boat since the PSX. Ridge Racer 3D looks pretty good from the 2D shots.

Meh. I'll check back when it's $200 and there's a neat 3D twist to turn-based strategy games.

I might wait for a pack-in game at $250, or a special color. We'll see where I'm at on my backlog in March and whether I realistically have time for any of the launch titles.

I'm not impressed with the launch titles either, mostly because they are primarily composed of remakes. Super SF4? Dead or Alive? Zelda Ocarina of Time? Come on, give me something original and unique to the system, not just version 2 with 3D added into it. As much as I liked Ocarina of Time, I've already had the chance to play it on no less than 3 different systems, I really don't need a 4th added to that list.

I'll wait and see what comes out later, but right now I'm not seeing the incentive to purchase, especially at $250.

If I could spare the money, I'd be all over the 3DS, but as it stands it might be a Christmas gift from my fiancee or possibly a purchase next year.

The launch lineup overall isn't too much to be excited about IMO, but Ridge Racer 3d and Pilotwings 3d both look very interesting to me.

The first thing for me will be if I get headaches as others have with the 3DS. I know it's been sporadic, but I remember when I got my first original DS, I too got headaches. It took me a couple weeks to get used to it. So first off I have to be able to look at the thing.

Secondly, even though I can certainly afford $250, I'd rather pay $200. I'd pay $250 if there was a Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Tactics Ogre or FFT. At that price, though, with those games? No. Many of those I can already play on the PSP or iPhone. Or at least I can play a version of.

£230 in the UK which is $351. I doubted I would get one anyway, just because I rarely touched my DS and have hardly used my PS3. But at £220 that doubt has turned into a definite no.

Hmm... Some of these screenshots are fugly to me and don't seem any better than the DS or PSP.

Doesn't look too bad to me, esp. given the simplistic art direction.

What is 3DS supposed to be comparable to anyway?

GBA is a bit less than a SNES.
DS was like N64.
Most everything I've seen on 3DS seems like PSP/PS2+ range.

Resident Evil looked better than the PS2 stuff I remember, but that may be due to the PS2 stuff I remember having been played on a 42" HD screen.

Joystiq is saying that the games they can find prices for on Amazon are $40-$50, but I didn't find any more than $40. Still a $5 hike on first party stuff, but that's somewhat to be expected.

The one that caught my eye was Mario Kart. I thought that looked pretty blocky.

Most comparison shots I've seen for any 3DS entry in a franchise end up looking better than anything made ps2/gcn/xbox era, which with some it seems it comes down to better art direction, like the MGS shot where everything isn't tinted brown.

Oooh. You said XBox. 3DS port of KOTOR = Day 1 purchase for me. Not that anyone is thinking about that.

Price and launch line up means I'll be waiting a while before I get one. I'll have my fingers crossed for a purple 3DS when new colors or Limited Editions are introduced later this year.

BTW, any word on region locking for this thing? Region free or not?
