Good. Old Star Fox > new Star Fox.

$250 is even a little to steep for my tastes. I tend to use the portable systems significantly less then the consoles and PC. Hopefully a PSP2 will be announced by the time this is released so the marketplace will be a little more competitive.

As for titles, definitely Pilot Wings! (As long as its a new game and not a re-make)

I'm going to be on top of Kid Icarus and, while I feel like a sucker, the Resident Evil (the NEW new one, not the Mercenaries port).

If I have the money.

To be honest I think the 3rd looks like a better deal than the ps3 and wii. I've always preferred handhelds to consoles. Guess it's the more intimate experience.

Added a graphics comparison, I think it looks pretty darn good.

Next year, after a price drop. This is out of my comfort zone, now that I have an iphone.

Looks very impressive in most of those comparison shots, but still...call me when it hits $179.99. Nintendo's gonna make a crazy profit anyway; they can lower the price. I'm obviously skimming, but any word on the game price points? Considering the apparent scope and tech of many of these games, I wouldn't be surprised to see $35 or $40 as the new base price, with some going up to $50. MTV says they'll equal current DS game prices, but I have my doubts.

Luckily I have abrother to share costs with

Plenty of new DS games go for $35 now. Square-Enix games used to come out at $40, too.

We speculated a little on it. I think $40 will be the top of the chart, but it'll be hit more often than with the DS.

Old. Sorry.

Nothing to see here!

Street Fighter 4 will be the first game I get.

Why?

I ask because this is one of the titles I see as being not only somewhat useless on a portable, but also lacking in any reason to be in 3D.

Not hating, I'm actually interested in why.

I reckon on the go with a friend could work, but agree by-and-large.

I agree, assuming you're not being sarcastic. As an early adoptee I never mind paying a bit more. I'm never glad I paid more, but it's pure capitalism. If something I might like releases for more then I have a choice to pay more if I want it now. Then if something pricier than I'm willing to buy comes out I take comfort that someone like I was with a different product is helping to subsidize the price cut when I get it.

That said, I've enjoyed returning to 2D gaming between XBLA, the DS an the iPhone. So this is one of the least compelling console launched ever for me. Of course, I hated the DS when it was announced. So if my handle is 3DSGamer next year... *shrug*

Iwata has said that he "doesn't believe" that 3DS game prices will be "too far off" from current DS game prices. Link.

Now, granted, that's PR speak passed through a translator and couched in a whole lot of vagueness and wiggle room, but it's also all we have to go on right now.

Right now the DS has a more variable pricing structure than home consoles, and I'd expect the variability to increase considering the 3DS' greater graphical capabilities, which will presumably carry with them greater development costs for games that take full advantage of the hardware.

I would hope there will be a minor rise to account for inflation, but nothing above maybe $5 US over the standard DS games.

Have you actually seen the 3DS yet? That seems to be what gets people excited.

Any news on when we will be able to start preordering this thing at retail stores? It may be the only console I ever buy on launch day.

No, they haven't announced a price or firm date for release over here.

Seeing the 3DS won't change anything. On the DS that exists now I choose 2D games because it's nice to return to the more classic style, in my opinion. I find that most 3D games I play have me shooting stuff whereas 2D games are side scrollers, RPGs, puzzlers, etc.

Man,I hope developers don't feel obliged to use the new hardware.. Two of my favourite games ever are World Ends with You and Phoenix Wright.

There's already been a Professor Layton announced for it, so that's a promising sign.

Bear in mind that people were saying that same thing about using the DS technology and we still got a lot of games that would have worked without it (e.g. Phoenix Wright) and we also got a lot of games that couldn't have been done on any other platform (e.g. the World Ends With You). I'm sure we'll get the same thing here.

And it's 3d, kinda like the ni no Kuni game.

Fixed.

Final Fantasy 3, 4, and 4 Heroes of Light. 3D RPGs on the DS. No reason 3D is bad. But I agree it's nice to go back to 2D. Most of my DS games are 2D.

Don't see why 3D has to mean non-unique experiences. But I don't think everyone will feel the need to make use of everything at all times. Developers seem to have mostly learned their lessons on the DS.

What I meant was that now the technological limitations are largely gone, I worry a lot of what made DS games unique will fade. The best games are the ones that acknowledge and work around the DS' limitations.

And Dragon Quest IX, and Zeldas Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, and... well, you see where I'm going with this. Choosing games based on the number of Ds is silly.

Considering your past complaints about the DS size and the current form factor coming out, I doubt you'll be converting before the 3DS 3XL or whatever they call it.

And The World Ends With You used the unique traits of the DS pretty extensively to the point that it would have been impossible on a single screen system and possibly also impossible without touch and sleep modes. I don't really get your comment unless you just mean you want it 2D. But I think that as TWEWY shows, you can have a stellar game that nobody ever thought possible with the new tech.

Indeed. Of the FF games mentioned earlier? I played none of them. I don't plan on changing that, either.
