3DS Catch-all

I have no idea how this duplicate post got here, but I might as well edit it into a stunning, brilliant insight!

When I think of one.

You'd get more streetpasses if you didn't take yours into work each day.

Wait, I've got that backwards. I hate your office.

I've now went trough the entire spreadsheet and added everyone...except one. I somehow skipped someone. So, if you add me and it doesn't register let me know, and I'll add you. FC is 0490-5387-9371.

The secret benefit to having two 3DSes in one house is that, as you're working through the Find Mii games, you can politely ask your sweetie to change the color of her Mii's outfit to match whatever you need to keep moving.

That would be nice.

You can also just rehire someone with the right shirt color.

Shop has green right now which is so useless :p

It really irritates me that they don't have any sort of filtering available to sort Miis by shirt color and/or level.

And you haven't asked me to change it in over a year :p

My kids both have 3DS's. It helps a lot with Find Mii. Not so much with the pictures.

Re... hire...? You can do that?

Yeah, it costs play coins, it's in the "hire a hero" thing.

I think it's only available in Find Mii II though.

Yeah I can't control who I hire.

You have to complete Find Mii twice, and then the Find Mii II game unlocks. Who knew they would put so much depth into what seems at first to be a throwaway game.

My daughter and I trade streetpasses daily, sometimes twice a day. But we've been successful in getting streetpasses walking around our neighbourhood. We're really looking forward to August and the Fan Expo here, hopefully we should see a ton from that.

Street Pass is an example of the #1 thing I don't like about Nintendo, and that is how... not sure how to put this... how Japan-centric their devices are. Street Pass is awesome... if you live in Japan. 4 player local multiplayer is awesome... if you live in Japan. These features are really not so awesome if you live somewhere NOT Japan. That's been my experience at least, going back as far as the Gamecube.

It's not just Nintendo, there's several Square-Enix games that benefit tremendously from higher population densities: Legend of Mana, The World Ends With You, Dragon Quest IX... I think you're describing a problem with Japanese devs.

I'd love to see this but it would never happen. For the Nintendo Zone to pick up people's Streetpass to share for 24 hours. This way you have a 'hub' where you can swing by and pick up other people near you. A good alternative for the areas like mine in the Midwest that simply don't have the common commuting areas you see in the bigger cities.

I'm uncomfortable calling it a problem with Japanese developers. I'm sure there are a lot of problems with Western games for them, that we would never understand on our own for cultural reasons.

That is oversimplifying it, but I'm on my phone.

That's exactly what they're doing with the Starbucks/McDonald's deal (are there other businesses in this?) that they're rolling out later this year. Basically, if you go to Starbucks with your 3DS, it'll cache your StreetPass for an amount of time so anyone who comes after you will get a tag. Likewise, you'll get tags from the people who were there before you.

You have no idea. You need to clear Find Mii II multiple times in order to get all the hats, and that's not even counting the longer "second quest" you unlock from beating it once.

Sorry, I was just saying it seemed mostly something we've seen from Japanese developers (and Square-Enix in particular). Legend of Mana had the possibility of a sneakernet economy (you could mark items in you inventory to sell to other people who were playing on a PSOne with your memory card in the drive) and that wasn't fully realized in the West until TWEWY's Mingle Mode, and even then Mingle Mode / Street Pass is mostly the domain of dedicated meetup groups.

I agree that the reverse is very likely true too, but as I'm not living in Japan this is the facet that matters to me. I certainly wouldn't mind having more use for something like StreetPass, the few times that I got things shared for Theatrhythm it was fun. I suppose it upsets me because it's a whole aspect of mobile gaming that I don't get to be a part of.

Good to know; thanks for the update. Still may not help in all rural areas but it's a move in the right direction to be more reflective of the Midwestern US style of gamer.

I really just wish that they would use Spotpass to at least do a random anonymous internet StreetPass contact on a regular basis for us lonely hearts. Even just one internet "StreetPass" per week would be nice; one a day would be super awesome.

[Edit]This is something the Vita does much better. It uses online connectivity to generate a "Near Me" list, which is what I originally hoped Spotpass could do for the 3DS.

Did you get the E3 Spotpasses? I got Iwata and 3 Nintendo developers.

Not that I've been able to tell. It's also possible that I have something screwy with my setup.

Regarding EO4:

I've been feeling a bit let down by the lack of options for my Fortress. He got pushed down to the rear because my Nightseeker was not effective enough in the back and she synergizes offensively with my front line Dancer and Landsknecht. Now my Fortress has nothing to do most turns, plus Taunt seems less effective in the back, plus I'm seeing more AOE attacks against me. Frankly a bit dull to just pick Strike Guard -> Defend every battle and would like something with more possibilities.

I've also got a medic that I am in the process of leveling up but I expect the same thing to occur as his abilities are situational.

At what point do I get to add subclasses in EO4? Also roughly when do the extra classes come into play? Subclassing either the Medic or Fortress would really open things up.

Oh man, I played through the Project X Zone demo twice last night. You were right, ahrez, this is very close in feel to VP. The timing on comboing the different moves feels just right, and the special moves have just the right level of over the top. I'll definitely be picking this one up once I roll over into next month's budget.

You get the ability to subclass halfway through the 3rd major dungeon, so I doubt you're far away. You should subclass every party immediately — not only does it open up synergistic possibilities (like increasing a landschnect's elemental damage or a nightseeker's chance to land ailments, see below), it also gives you 5 free skill points.

What is your class makeup? They sound a bit lacking in offense. Dancer, Fortress, and Medic are all pretty passive roles, so that makes me think you lack some punch. I reconfigured mine after I unlocked the ability to retire my party, as my frontline (landschnect/dancer/nightseeker) was starting to get pretty squishy. Also, my medic started to not have anything to do for 2/3 of a battle, so I wound up taking arcanist and subclassing to medic.

My current party, which tore through the final boss and pretty handily destroyed the first dragon I came across, is as follows — I mean, just in case you care.

Landschnect (specced for linking)/Runemaster
Fortress/Dancer
Nightseeker (specced for ailments)/Arcanist <--- this class owns
Arcanist (specced for binds)/Medic
Runemaster/Imperial

I'm really liking my Fortress at this point, but I didn't run with one for my first 40 levels, so I can't speak to their early-game efficacy. They seem to work really well with dancer -- that passive skill of the dancer's that greatly increases your evade rate means that a fortress can do Party Guard and occasionally not die on late-game multi-hit attacks from FOEs.

I'm not using the Medic and Fortress at the same time.
I had been using...
Nightseeker - Landknecht - Dancer
Runemaster - Fortress

The Fortress moved to the back so the Nightseeker could have the front spot. She has been lot more effective there but it kind of neutered the Fortress. Between elemental link, Chase Samba and dual attack from the Nightseeker I get tons of followup attacks. I have a lower-level Medic that I swapped out for the Fortress just to give a different class a go.

Ah, gotcha. Are you okay on healing without a medic in your lineup?

Don't forget that you can switch party lineup at any time without paying a turn order penalty. If you want, you can start with the fortress in front in place of the nightseeker, and then swap the two if/when the nightseeker gets an ailment to land so that he/she can wail on the enemy with assassinate/shadow bite.

I loooved my fortress. He was a super powerful attacker as well. Taunt + auto taunt + tp when attacked + powerful attack skills = awesome.

Yeah, the Vengeance Bash can be crazy powerful if taunt is in effect.

Now that I've finished my Soul Sacrifice platinum, Project X Zone is my new commute game. I feel a bit embarrassed playing it on public transit though, with the amount of "fan service" going on. Just the opening scene, my lord. You'd think protectors of an ancient stone of power might wear, oh I don't know, something other than a maid's uniform from a porno?
