3DS Catch-all

I could be wrong, but don't all 3DS games with DLC have their own storefront that's only accessible through the game?

I got the free Fire Emblem map through the game, and I don't recall seeing it on the eShop. That said, I didn't explicitly look for it on the eShop, where as the game makes it super easy to find.

The first DLC pack for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon will be free for the first few weeks. Any idea if you can get that in the eShop without yet having the game itself? I'm interested in it, but my gaming money in March is quite spoken for already.

Aw man, now I need to find this out too. It might be enough to force me to snag the game sooner than planned. *sigh*

(Also, ZOMG DAY ONE DLC IS EVIL ZOMG. Just getting that out of the way so that we don't have to have that conversation here.)

My name is Farscry, and I approve of this message!

The Etrian Odyssey IV demo is up. Progress you make in the demo can be transferred into the full game.

Also, Mega Man II was added to the eShop as a Virtual Console game.

Is that the Game Boy one or the original NES game?

I believe Capcom is releasing the original NES games slowly throughout the year for the Blue-Bomber's anniversary.

Best in the series, imo.

+1.

I have many great memories of this game, and the original. Both were hard as balls, but oh so good.

I preferred MM3.

I'm really surprised to see any interest in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Even the Pokemon fans I know here don't bother with those games. I'm a little curious, I guess.

No PS2 for me. I really and truly cannot stand RPGs that fall in the Etrian Odyssey/Wizardry category, and Strange Journey looked like one of those.

Like I said, keeping an open mind regarding SMT4.

I'm mainly interested because I've been hearing about how the Mystery Dungeon games keep pushing into being more of a genuine Roguelike experience.

Guys, I bought a 3DS XL. I'm keeping my original 3DS as planned, for Pokemon reasons. But there are unexpected benefits!

I CAN STREETPASS MYSELF ALL DAY LONG.

Think about the implications.

You need to go deeper.

I've added AndrewA, Blind_Evil and ahrezmendi to my friend's list. Should we start a gdoc for this? Might be easier.

Probably would be helpful. The fact that you both have to add each other makes the entire process cumbersome. Mine is in my sig.

I kinda don't see a need until the Pokemoning begins.

I'd appreciate a gdoc, but I thought one already existed somewhere. Maybe I'm thinking of the Steam doc though.

I just spent way too long playing that demo. It looks like the kind of game I'd give up on halfway through, but only because something shiny distracted me. Otherwise, I would want to lose a lot more time in that game.

Downloading to play on my flights tomorrow. Really excited.

I played it. I can't really put my finger on what it is about that kind of game that puts me off, but it *really* puts me off. Ah well, plenty else to play.

I'm completely hooked on the Etrian Odyssey demo. I'm not sure when I'll be able to get the full game, sadly, but it's now at the top of my buy list.

Mine is in my sig as well, but didn't Certis add a 3DS friend code parameter to the profile page? Or am I think of Nintendo Network id for the WiiU?

In my case, it was the time required to micromanage my party before the adventuring started. I love a good level grind. The rest was just a little much.

You're just not hardcore enough.

The demo is so pretty. The music/main theme is the same so that gives me good vibes. I hate the number of limited times you can start the demo. Especially if I can continue my progress in the full game.

PS. To sell multiple items is a little strange. Hitting "Y" in old games sells the same item. Now it just highlights what you want to sell.

Other than that. I can't wait.

It can? Well, frick.... I didn't even bother to save after playing the demo for a couple hours...

I figure you're kidding since you know the kind of stuff I play, but I do think I should elaborate some.

Graphical fidelity isn't a very big deal for me, if a game is mechanically sound or even just intriguing. It seems I do require some visual feedback though, as the EO games/genre never seem to distinguish themselves mechanically from other RPGs that actually have character animations and the like. I guess it's a surface problem, but visual stimulation is an undeniable part of a game's appeal. I understand that the visual style chosen here is a throwback to a certain style of game, but when you've got little-to-no history with the stuff being referenced it falls flat. Maybe there's more to these games that I haven't seen, but I played the second game for about three hours and just couldn't bring myself to go any further.

TL;DR - Etrian Odyssey's appeal seems to be boiling RPG mechanics down to their purest form, but I totally enjoy the trappings that they're siphoning off.

Having not played an EO game since the first, I found the EO IV demo to be beautiful and loved every aspect of the visuals. To each their own, I guess.

I do like blind_evil knows exactly what he likes. I'm going to stop suggesting games because clearly when he says he doesn't like it, he's given it a chance and it didn't work for him.

I didn't mean to say that the visuals that are there aren't nice, quite the opposite. There's just not enough going on with them. It all feels kind of... static.

Looking at a lot of my favorite games, I think I place a higher priority on character animation than I had realized. Bayonetta, Vanquish, Syndicate, Dragon's Dogma. All games that feature either very fluid or very weighty animations. My current obsession, Fire Emblem: Awakening - man, the attack animations are really something else. You'll see

And don't stop suggesting stuff! Sometimes I require a little pushing, and sometimes I'm entirely beyond reason. I think it was you that pushed me to keep on with The Walking Dead? ...or was that Dishonored... either way, two games I wasn't keen on but warmed to considerably.

Yeah I pushed The Walking Dead.
