Euro Truck Simulator 2 catch-all

Purists may not like it, but I disabled the need to sleep very early on.

I seriously thought about doing that, but decided it would more or less remove any challenge eventually. Planning the route and rest stops is part of the fun for me. But if it's not fun for you then it's great that the option is there.

It's given me a couple of cool moments though, like just about getting to a destination before I fall asleep at the wheel. Probably about as intense as a truck simulation is going to get! Oh, apart from that time I forgot about the whole 'drives on the right' thing those Europeans have going on.

Yeah, falling asleep at the wheel is pretty funny the first time it happens, but for me it was one step of simulation too far for general enjoyment.

I did this too. My character can sleep when I do.

Worth noting that once you are on a job, the projected time to completion is based on you driving at an average of 38mph or so - therefore if you are trying to work out whether you can get to your destination without having to rest again, you can factor that in.

Log into the World of Trucks site and create a profile, then you can personalise your number plate to make the vehicle more 'yours'. All you have to remember is to link your account with your ETS2 profile, which you can do from the WOT website. You will also then get offered the chance to take jobs from WOT, but it is worth remembering that when you look at these jobs and they quote a time to complete, that is in real time and not game time.

Ah that explains it, thanks. And is there a benefit to completing those particular jobs over the in game ones? Are they worth more money or something?

Heh, that actually reminds me. When I was playing regularly it was my 'before bed' game. So my being tired, plus my character being tired was not much fun.

The only problem I had with the sleep mechanic is that you could often find jobs that couldn't be delivered in time without missing sleep. Because there is no way to 'nap', you had to either suck up the late fee or drive the unfun asleep at the wheel mode.

If they've fixed job time requirements, I'd turn sleep back on in a heartbeat.

I can't say I've ever had an issue with being late for a job because of sleep. I've always found the time requirements to be pretty generous. I do speed as much as the governor allows though.

I'm guessing maybe it changed since the last time I played a lot - it's been a couple years. I've only had a few short stints to check out the new scenery when the DLC appears, which I dutifully buy, never to drive through...

I delivered some presents as per the Christmas event, just because it awards more money than the usual jobs I was taking. I won't have anywhere near enough time to get the dragon paints, unless they extend the promotion for some reason (when is it due to finish anyway?). I went to Budapest for this delivery, but I think I'll wait until I have a more powerful truck before I take too many jobs in eastern Europe - thems a lot of hills! On the plus side, Slovak radio has turned up some real gems. (link possibly NSFW, depending)

My biggest gripe with the game so far is inconsistency with motorway turn offs. Assuming I'm in mainland europe, driving in the right lane of a two lane carriageway and there's a turn off coming up - I can't tell if I need to move into the left lane to go straight on or not. Often, the right hand lane just becomes the slip road. Which... isn't how it works in the UK (nor in the few european countries I've driven in), and it's caught me out a few times where I have to quickly shift into the left lane and hope no-one was coming. It seems like a bizarre approximation of real roads.

I'm a bit confused - do the gifts just show up as a type of delivery, or is the deal make any 10 deliveries to different cities?

EDIT: Found my answer, they're in external offers.

SCS has extended the delivery deadline, so get to haulin'!

As of now, we have given away over 70 thousand keys as a reward for completing the required ten Christmas deliveries, but there are still over 50,000 players trying to complete the objective. Over 500,000 jobs were delivered since the campaign started, which was quite a stress test of our infrastructure (you may have noticed some glitches in the early days until we have boosted our database processing power). It is also a great testament of the level of involvement and passion that the fans have for our games. Right at this moment over 10 thousand Christmas deliveries are on their way! It may be a bit late to help poor Santa in time for his self-imposed deadlines, but not too late for your chances to earn the reward!

We are setting the final deadline of Grand Gift Delivery to midnight of January 15, 2017, CET. Providing you with more time is also another way of saying "thanks for your support" during the final voting for Steam Awards 2016.

I've finished 4/10, and am nearly done with 5. Should be done tomorrow at the latest.

ETS2 and ATS each got an update in the last few days, adding police AI to ETS2, as well as liftable trailer axles, diff locks, and adaptive transmission modes to both games.

But really, I wanted to show off this truck I saw today. Holy crap, is this legal? And also when can I get some in ETS2?

Coming in 1.28, open beta is on now. Double trailers will be Scandinavia-only for now, since that's where they're legally allowed in real life, and SCS will add them to more countries as their research warrants.

Good lord, I can barely take a tight bend as it is... But pulling one of those things.... they might as well write off the damage penalty when I take the job!

Forget tight bends, how do you back in to park with those?

You use AI assist

I'm finally getting around to modding this. Can anyone recommend any? I see promods is the 'go to' map mod for many, but I would be concerned about some things, a couple of which are-

1. How does this affect achievements, since I am unashamedly an achievement whore?
2. What happens when SCS release the Italy extension?

Also interested in any graphics mods if they are stable.

The only mods I’ve used have been new AI traffic models by Jazzycat. I think they’re only available from his website, but I haven’t had any problems with them. They simply add hundreds of new AI traffic vehicles. I found it to greatly enhance my experience. It’s kind of a subliminal thing.

And I’m pretty sure I’ve been collecting achievements since I installed them.

I've used mods to put in correct company and service station names etc, nothing much apart from that - and I've been getting the achievements.

ProMods is a fantastic resource, and is constantly updated.

Thanks for suggestions. I've just added a few simple mods via the steam workshop for now. Promods looks fantastic, but I struggle to fit the longer drives into a single session as it is, so I would guess that increasing the map size would make my playtime less fulfilling. I did activate a cool mod that replicates real world daylight hours in the game.

What was the name of the daylight mod ?

It's called Actual Day-/Nighttime Mod

Not the catchiest of titles but the author apparently updates it every Sunday with that weeks approximate sunrise / sunset times. Of course that does mean that if he gets bored he might stop updating it.

The 1.30 update is out now, getting things ready for the Italy DLC next week, and includes two new Scania trucks. Also:

  • Map improvements - city of Milano was completely remade, the whole northern part of Italy improved
  • Overhaul of navigation algorithms
  • Time zones support
  • ZF-16 transmission supporting upcoming DLC for all trucks that missed similar one
  • Map fitted to correct projection (more exact environment behavior), map panning option
  • Multi-torque engines support (used in DAF engines 2017)
  • Basic engine and transmission info in quick job truck tooltip
  • Trailers with country restrictions are towed only to services in given countries
  • Further polish to DAF, Volvo, and SCANIA trucks
  • Tons of map tweaks and fixes in the base map and older map DLCs
  • New luxury yacht cargo

it's spelled "luxury yacht cargo" but it's pronounced "Throat Warbler Mangrove".

This game is going to be five years old next month—five years! And still delivering free and paid content. Take your loot boxes and spin on them, EA.

Really liking the new Scanias. But I judge each truck based almost entirely on its dashboard, so that is to say I'm really liking the new Scania dashboard. I thought the DAF XF was the best truck (had the best dashboard), but the Scanias are very close seconds. And I just bought the DAF tuning DLC during the Steam autumn sale, since the XF was clearly the best truck and I wouldn't need anything else. Guess I'll be buying the Mighty Griffin DLC too. Only quibbles: no dash indicator for the headlights, and the GPS is right under the Route Advisor.

The Italia expansion is out. But don't follow that link! If you own any other map DLC (safe assumption in this thread), look at the Map Booster bundle and possibly get it cheaper. And/or wait for the Winter sale soon.

WHERE'S THE IRELAND DLC?!

Think I'd rather have Spain/Portugal than ireland.

Good spot on the map bundle, Gravey - I had the other 3 packs already, so Italy cost me £11.49 instead of £13.99.

Now to Italy, looking forward to my first Mafia hijacking and consignment of illegal cigarettes.
