Euro Truck Simulator 2 catch-all

I have a extra key for this. First person that messages gets it.

American Truck Simulator is now American Truck Simulator: California

A new screenie

And this interesting quote from the devs

We are adding community features and infrastructure to support implementation of a grand trucking universe with Virtual Trucking Companies and eventually with rich multiplayer. We would also like to introduce more vehicles into our world than just plain semi-trucks, so work has started on adding alternate gameplay and driving experiences into our simulation system. At the same time, we know that we need to keep pushing our graphics technology, there are still many things in our game engine to improve and optimize, and balancing such changes while trying not to break the game mods too badly is not easy at all.

Looks sweet.

Interesting statements about vehicle variety.

I'd love to see them revisit bus driving.

Love it! If they can make a version of CA that's about the same map size of the original ETS2 map, it's going to be amazing.

Everything in ETS2 feels just a little too compressed and abstract; focusing on a slightly smaller area with more detail and less compression is a great idea.

It does make me wonder about DLC a bit. Hopefully they won't charge for every single individual state!

Well, some states would be easier than others. Kansas, for example, would just be hundreds of miles of repeating corn textures...

Start out with the best state, sounds fine to me.

Well, with extensive family out there and having hit all the hot (and many not-so-hot) spots, I can't much argue.

But CO & NY sure do give it a run for its money.

Ugh. Multiplayer. I won't be buying this one.

American Truck Simulator is a single-player game. Like ETS2, it will have hooks into World of Trucks, but it will be entirely optional. This isn't ETS:MMO.

There's a FAQ addressing the 1.22 open beta, which includes the World of Trucks jobs and what that means for future multiplayer:

Q: Are you planning to convert your Single player game to Multiplayer?
A: World of Trucks is envisioned as an optional layer created alongside the existing single player game. We will keep improving the singleplayer experience and add more features and content to the standard game, but we do not want to overhaul it and "fix" what most players would not consider broken. World of Trucks should -eventually - offer an alternate "metagame" with rich - but controlled - player to player interaction, the possibility to form Virtual Truck Companies, and eventually to make it possible to share the same world and make up convoys in a shared multiplayer game.

I would love to see them do the east coast, eventually.

I wonder if they'll put the effort into mapping how the drivers in different states have different habits. Like how everyone in Oregon drives ten miles under the posted limit, or how nobody in New England can merge onto a highway without disrupting traffic for three miles.

It bears repeating that "World of Trucks" is only a web site where you can show off stuff from the game. I was actually a little disappointed in this at first, but ultimately I'm glad that they didn't waste too much effort on creating a truck MMO rather than focusing on the core game. That said...

... the idea of a multiplayer convoy sounds kind of amazing! Maybe we can eventually create a GWJ "Trucks and Beers" night; not normally a good combination, granted...

Why do you hate fun?

Imagine: a line of Goodjers trucking down the road. Suddenly, this song comes on the radio.

You can be Rubber Duck and I'll be, like, Sodbuster or something.

There is currently a multiplayer version of ETS2 hacked together by some modders. Most of what I've read about it sounds horrible to me. Just imagine the shenanigans griefers could cause in a game like ETS2.

No thank you.

I'm with BadKen on this one, but that's a topic for future visitation.

Oooh. Get pumped.

Anyone else doing the World of Trucks meta in version 1.22 ? I'd put it at 'interesting, but not essential'.

(mentally books illness days for 3 Feb 2016.)

I like the sound of SCS's "grand vision":

to cover all of North America eventually and to chase every relevant truck manufacturer for a license to allow us to include their trucks into the game.

I'll see the rest of you when the Canadian provinces start coming out!

I'll probably sign up when they do the eastern seaboard. The west coast is as foreign to me as Germany, so I may as well stick with ETS2.

I was the same until my dad retired in San Diego and I later met my wife, who's family is from all over the west coast. As a Northern Corridor elitist, I've really come to appreciate the West Coast over the past 25 years. I imagine I'd like to retire out there as well.

If ATS only covers California, it will have a rich array of settings, from the tropical biomes of southern CA to the mountainous, forest regions of the north.

Gonna be awesome.

As someone who loves both Euro Truck and iRacing, I would be remiss if I did not link to this awesome marriage currently on sale for $9.99.

I'll be picking it up as part of the Stock Car Extreme package (Goodjers and internet reviewers agree, it's about the best racing sim on the market). Formula Truck is only an extra $1.50 if you're getting Stock Car Extreme anyway.

And there's a multiplayer option

SCS is doing a nice promotional offer to raise awareness during launch week.

If you Follow ATS off of the Steam page, you'll get a pack of Steampunk-themed truck paintjobs. You don't have to buy the game on Steam, only activate it during the first week.

From the update: Here is a couple images to whet your appetite:

So, the game releases with California.

SCS are now saying that Nevada is complete, and will be released as DLC with the main game. For free.

And there's more. Arizona is well on the way to being finished. And that will also be released as DLC. For free.

Recommended price - $20/€20.

SCS are right up there in the pantheon of devs who support their games and their players.

First thought: That's awesome!

Second thought: Wait, aren't all those states basically just desert?

Didn't "Desert Bus" nail this perfectly already?

$20 MSRP?
Nevada DLC free?
Arizona DLC free?

Bravo, SCS. You know how to keep your customers loyal.
