Euro Truck Simulator 2 catch-all

Haters gonna Hate. I'm all for California Truck Driver. I can't imagine driving I-5 is any more or less boring that any other flat part of the country (ie everything between California and New York), or honestly most of the scenery in ETS 2.

Ha ha, can't wait to get stuck under a low clearance train bridge while the jerk in the Audi behind me honks continuously.

Man, if I can get a full load stuck on Storrow Drive in Boston, I'll be happy :D

I think Boston would be a great city to model because of how the roads are not laid out in any sort of logical manner. It is so different than other cities with grid-like layouts.

An interesting aspect of CA is how varied the terrain & climate is. From the sunny beaches of San Diego to the snowy elevations around Tahoe, there's incredible geographic diversity on offer.

Putting the new AI in ETS2 is seriously classy. That's how you support a game.

How many other studios would use "Brand new driver AI!" as a ransom note to sell their next game?

Yeah, that seems like a very good company. I didn't actually play this game very much, but after seeing how cool they've been, I'll definitely be watching for anything else they make.

And, heck, with the AI upgrades, maybe I'll end up hooked like everyone else, after all.

I had a nice experience with SCS after I purchased a digital copy of Bus Driver from Amazon. I picked it up during a holiday sale for some ridiculous price like $2.50 but later noticed that it was only the base game and not the later-released Gold edition. In addition to the bonus vehicles/routes in Gold, it also featured some significant engine tweaks such as mouse support and various driving camera angles.

Anyway, I emailed SCS support querying about an upgrade and only moments later got a response with a code for the Gold edition found on their website, along with thanks for supporting SCS. The best part was that the email came direct from Pavel Sebor CEO of SCS Software. I thought it was a nice touch.

I think SCS changed the dashboard on MAN trucks. The whole reason I chose MAN was because of the massive windshield, but when I loaded the game up today, everything felt incredibly cramped.

Whoopsnevermind.

Good timing on the bump.

The much anticipated 1.9 update has been finalized and gone live today (details at the top of this page).

Great excuse to get back out on the roads.

What? I have to check and see if my Steam version updated and I didn't notice. I ran a lot of miles last night, and crashed more than I've ever crashed in my entire driving career. Cars did things I've never seen them do - had one turn directly in front of me while I was running a yellow (ok, probably newly-red) light and it was a major t-bone collision.

If it updated, then I have an excuse And I'll drive a little slower next time out!

Yep, in hindsight, it definitely updated because a) I noticed the change in the theme music, and b) it put me back at my garage instead of picking up in the middle of the delivery I was running. I drove a lot more cautiously tonight and didn't have any unexpected traffic encounters

So... you can play this with a 360 controller.

It's so dumb. I love it.

This game is why I got a controller.

And how is it dumb?

In the best way possible.

No, buying a G27 wheel and a TrackIR for this game is dumb.

... also in the best way possible.

ETS2 is not a game, it's a lifestyle choice

I miss my wheel. If I had it, ETS2 would see a lot of post-work de-stress action.

If I had room in my place for this setup I'd be there in a nanosecond.

Until then, the 360 pad will have to take up the paces, which it does quite well after some fiddling.

I only wish the 360 Speed Wheel had full PC support. It's such a lovely and elegant in-between solution.

While it looks like a glorified Wii plastic toy, it proved ace as hell for the likes of Forza 4 and Horizon.

Is that a hand-held steering device? Interesting.

I've been lurking in this thread for a long time, and I wanted to chime in to say I've actually been using the 360 "speed" wheel with Euro Truck. So far it has worked just really great with the 360-to-PC wireless gaming receiver. The only trouble I've had is if I turn on the controller after I boot the game, then it doesn't seem to recognize it. But as long as I've got everything turned on, it reads everything just fine and I can tune the x-axis dead zone and such. I've assigned the X,Y buttons as left and right blinkers, while the Y and A buttons are my windshield wipers and horn. I think those have got to be the most boring button assignments ever for a 360 controller.

Oh, the only other bad thing is I get absolutely no notification that my batteries are about to die. I've had a couple of accidents due that unfortunately, but my trucking business is still thriving! I just pretend I'm playing "Periodically Narcoleptic Euro Truck Simulator".

The only trouble I've had is if I turn on the controller after I boot the game, then it doesn't seem to recognize it.

This seems to be an issue with any controller in my experience; plugging in a wired controller after the fact doesn't get recognized either.

Well this is an interesting development.

I do have a PC wireless receiver for my 360 pad so it looks like I'm set to use the Speed Wheel. I had no idea that it was even compatible with PC games.

So now I'm only left wondering about controller configurations. Is there a way to keep my 360 pad presets if I go in and start configuring my Speed Wheel? I've put a considerable amount of time into tweaking the pad presets just right and would like to have an optimal gamepad and Speed Wheel config ready to go at any moment.

I wonder if there's a file that I can copy/paste out of the ETS2 folder for safekeeping while I fiddle with the Speed Wheel.

Either way, consider me officially stoked. Thanks so much for chiming in, kungwill!

Another question that occurred to me. How did you set your sub-controller option? You know how the top drop-down selection is usually set to 360 Gamepad and there's a second drop-down right below it that says Game Controller, Wheel or Joystick? Which did you pick?

Aaron, you should back up your whole ETS2 folder in your user directory (in Documents, I think) before fiddling around. It has all of your savegames, settings, configuration, etc. Every time I've messed with (or messed up) my controller config, it's difficult to reset things just right. If you just swap back your profile/settings folder from five minutes ago, you're back in action.

Sweet.

Thanks for the suggestion, Archangel.

I'll give that a go.

Alright I checked my settings and for the top one I have "Keyboard + Controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows)". And then for the Controller subtype I have "Wheel" selected. Hope that helps!

They're finally getting the Mercedes license!

Once the New Actros is completed, we will have reached the dream scenario of having fully branded trucks from all seven major European truck manufacturers in our game.

I am still mystified as to why I play this game.

I'm not exactly enjoying myself, and halfway through each delivery, I ask myself "are you sure that you're enjoying this, because I'm not convinced that you are?"

The Bay Area and SoCal screenshots are both missing approximately 4.5 billion cars that would in reality be clogging those freeways.

Shut up, it'd be nice to drive around here without all those other billion cars.

I seriously thought the first few were photos.
