Urlacher has announced retirement. He was the face of the Bears for so long. 13 years in one jersey.I really hope they do something to honor him.
Also, that means him and Ray Lewis would be up for HOF at the same time.

Urlacher is right. Combine his performance with his longevity, and Ray Lewis is the best linebacker to ever play the game. Mike Tanier thinks he's getting in the HOF easily, and I don't have a huge problem with it. He lists the best LBs of all time as Ray Lewis, Lawrence Taylor, and Derrick Brooks, and has Urlacher as #7, just before Butkus and Lambert.
Next year's draft has been moved to the beginning of May.
Also there's some MJD drama going on that I can't even begin to care about.
Congress weighs in on Redskins name change.
The letter to Snyder says that "Native Americans throughout the country consider the 'R-word' a racial, derogatory slur akin to the 'N-word' among African Americans or the 'W-word' among Latinos."
Heya, real news finally. Jason Garrett had his playcalling duties taken away. Now he has more time for poor time management decisions.
Heya, some better news. Ravens pick up Daryl Smith. That's an incredibly savvy move if he's healed up.
Praise FSM, the show must go on!
I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.
I'm not going to turn on ESPN. I may set my TV on fire, just to be safe.
Did the Patriots not sell enough tickets or something?
Makes perfect sense, two things that Belichick loves:
1. Role players
2. Making the Jets look bad
If he finds the right way to use Tebow, you can check both of those points off. If he doesn't, I'm sure it won't cost them much.
I count 21 links in the prime real estate area of NFL.com.
12 of them are about Tebow.
Why? WHY?
Crazy thought, but is it coincidence that this signing comes so soon after the reveal that Rob Gronkowski needs further back surgery?
Now, Tebow will make or not make the roster at the QB position, but given how Belichick likes players who can fill multiple roles with just one roster spot, is there any chance the Patriots see Tebow as a potential option at TE, even if only as an emergency backup?
The thing about the whole "Tebow as TE" idea; has he ever shown any ability to, you know, CATCH? I mean, he was godawful as a punt protector last year, and I don't think he's going to be able to pray the ball into his hands on a seam route. It's a skill he doesn't have.

I was going to make a joke about him being a fullback, but frankly I can see them putting him just about anywhere.
Also, Josh McDaniels is with the Patriots which probably explains a lot of this signing.

I didn't know the Pats needed a special teams fullback.

Your point is well taken, but nothing about the whole Tebow thing makes any damn sense at all.
To be fair, yes, he's shown some ability to throw. In college, where that sort of thing is much easier for many reasons. He's never in any way been a pass catcher. My current thinking is the Patriots signed him to sell a lot of jerseys, and he gets released in the last set of preseason cuts.

It's way too early in the season to be worried about emergency backups. There have to be younger less expensive options to look at, especially at this point in the offseason.
That being said, it's really easy to bring someone in for a quick look right now without risking much. If they don't like him, he gets cut just like any other UFA during OTAs and mini-camps.
I guess it's just unfathomable to me at this point that anyone thinks he can play QB well enough to even be third on the depth chart. What else does he offer? We've discussed that he doesn't seem to be an avid special teamer, which is usually where borderline guys justify their roster position.
I agree that versatile guys are important, but his skillset looks kinda like this to me:
1) FB
2) QB (?)
Honest question: Aren't there enough guys coming out of school right now that can run and sorta throw at least as well as Tebow? I'm really genuinely confused by this.
None of it makes sense. Probably the only factoid that makes even a little sense is the one garion provided, the bit about Josh McDaniels being on the staff. Possibly he is still under the impression that Tebow is an NFL QB in the making, if only McDaniels could mold him further.
Probably this.
In McDaniels' mind, Tebow's remarkable 2011 winning streak probably vindicates the draft pick from the year before.
The best part of this will be watching Belichick gives his non-answer answers to questions about the Pats' third-string QB. That will be awesome.
