David Garrard has opted to retire, due to his knee not bouncing back sufficiently to play.
Meanwhile, Geno Smith is out about the town with Jay-Z:
It's going to happen again. The best option for QB in New York is going to be him again.
Too bad he won't be there.
Oh right, forgot about this one. He's like the Rickon Stark of the Jets quarterbacks.
You know, I finally got around to watching the 30 for 30 "Elway to Marino" documentary last night, and I'm suddenly reminded of the part where the Jets draft Ken O'Brien instead of Marino, and seeing all the shocked Jets fans, and then one of them being interviewed and saying, "Well, the Jets must know something we don't know, so it must have been a good decision" or some such. I DID NOT LAUGH IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM WHEN I SAW THIS.
30 years later, and the best QB for the Jets since then is . . . old Vinny Testaverde? A couple good Pennington years?
*yawn* Is it August yet?

I wanna kiss you!

I saw this the other day. Was Elway the prototypical douche-face or what? I am sure there were pre-Elway douche-faces, but cannot think of any. Even now, I wanted to punch Elway every time they showed the young Elway in that.

The impression I got is that Elway and Demoff really just botched the PR side of things, and had they just come out and said "we're not playing for the Colts because Irsay's a douchebag" it would have gone better. Instead, they said things about weather and West Coast and all that, and had to backtrack. Really just a case of clumsy public statements more than anything else.
Of course, Elway had a point. A huge point. There really wasn't any difference between what Elway did with the Colts and what Bo Jackson did to the Bucs; both were great players with an option to play baseball, who refused to play for utterly incompetent NFL franchises. Bo just handled his better.

Yeah, that was awful. I was definitely alive and paying attention to football back in those days, but my brain had apparently erased all memories of Douchy Elway before they contaminated other parts of my skull.
@MMD: You know the Jets fan you quoted? That's totally John C. Reilly.
I remember having a problem with how Elway snubbed the Colts back in the day. Oddly, I didn't have much of a problem with Bo Jackson when he told Tampa Bay to piss off. Just something about how Elway did it bothered me at the time nor Jim Kelly deciding to play in the USFL. I think Milkman is right, all the weak excuses just rankled.
Of course I was young and thought a lot more of the NFL than I do now.
Milliner pulls a Geno and cans his agents after not being drafted in the top 5. Another nice choice, Jets.
Who is having a worse off-season? Titus Young or the Jets?
and how long until the Jets pick him up?
Free Sunday Ticket with the Madden 25 Limited edition at Amazon

Sounds like I should buy that and then sell the game. ~$50 for a season of Sunday Ticket on my pc or tablet. Hmmm.
Has anyone seen Josh Freeman lately?
Did you check Old Country Buffet?
They're clearly trying to kick Freeman in the butt, but Glennon is actually a lot like Freeman, except the things you don't like about Freeman are worse with Glennon. Both are big and tall with huge arms, and both have issues with accuracy and decision-making. The thing is, Glennon has shown nothing that leads you to believe he has a realistic chance to start. Picking him in the 3rd was idiotic; are you really going to push a guy when you're taken that far down? Do they honestly expect that a year of sitting on the bench is going to tell anyone whether Glennon could be a future starter? You push a guy by bringing in an established veteran (like Jason Campbell) or hot young QB prospect (which Glennon isn't), not by taking a flyer on a guy who is very unlikely to have the opportunity to prove himself.
It's really just Schiano being clumsy and trying to inspire Freeman to do better. I've said it before, but Freeman's real struggles are pressure up the gut leading to back-foot panic throws. Last year, he lost two All-Pro caliber guards in Nicks and Joseph. Up the middle was pathetic. This year, he's going to have protection, and I really think he'll have an exceptionally good year and get very, very rich. Glennon's just a guy at this point, and the only reason he keeps popping up in the press is it's a boring time of year and PFT has to create some kind of drama in order to drive page views.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Rams win NFC West in 2013!
Rams win NFC West in 2013!
Rather that than those damn dirty chickens. :p
With luck, Crabtree can pull a Terrell Suggs and come back in the first half of the season.
I think Suggs was described as coming back a little early. I don't see how Crabtree could come back anywhere near effective enough before week 12 or so given the demands of the position. I hope he does, I don't wish injuries like that on anyone even if they play for the archrival team.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Good thing you picked up Boldin
So, Geno Smith has signed with Jay-Z's Roc Nation, who are most likely in violation of NFLPA rules in that a non-certified agent (such as Jay-Z) is not allowed to be part of the recruitment process.
They will say that Jay-Z recruited him for non-football representation, and that Geno just happened to think that Roc Nation, with an agent who has never negotiated an NFL contract, was the right choice for his football representation too.
Call me crazy, guys, but I just don't think this guy is going to have a long and successful NFL career.
Maybe Geno is hedging his bets.. he might be a better rapper than NFL QB.
