Spoiler::sad: Mother bear is kicking my ass in the bog. Playing stalker mode. I have 4 barrel shotgun, and gas arrow gun. I'm not sure what my total ammo count is on them.
I feel like I am wasting my ammo trying to get the feral dogs attack start up. When her back is to me I've thrown all 5 grenades and got off a shotgun blast. This go around I used all my ammo and secondary items. When the back is to me all i have is melee and stab her an easy 10 times before the slow mo ends :sad:Ok I think it works sort of like this
Spoiler:When the Mother bear is being attacked and you have to shoot it in the back you only really need one shot. You have to aim a little higher and when you do the dogs stop attacking immediately. I found aiming at a higher point on the back and going real close did it. I remember trying at first just to unload on the back at first, figuring out that was pointless later.
Did I mention I think the boss fights were awful.
Yeah, this is pretty much it.
I'm currency reading the Metro 2033 book, so it's been great to use this and 2033 game to help visualise the different locations and how things would look. Good book, I really recommend giving it a go.
Good write up Gravey.. agree with all your points.. I also felt it was a solid game.. but not up to the level of the first one. This game "speaks" to me more than say STALKER.. but I love the open more RPG'ish nature of STALKER over the fairly tight linear on rails world of Metro.. utopia would be a more open Metro 2033 where I have an entire world to explore with the various factions available to me to explore.

Ok, I will try this next time.

An open world version of the metro done well would be fantastic. Going from place to play just trying to survive. Heck it wouldn't have to be real big. Just put us in a single station trying to keep the people there alive by going out on missions. Then again seeing how all the game were so linear, this would probable be hard for them to do. A man can dream though.

Glad it didn't sound too much like I was just ragging on Last Light. Even if it can be reduced to a safe retread of 2033, mechanically and narratively (and it can, fairly), that's still a sight better than almost all shooters out there.
Utopia sure, but artistically tenable? I think 2033's story was so affecting, for me anyway, because the linearity was so well-focused on making sure every element of the game delivered on the experience, both action and emotion. Meanwhile, it gave the palpable sense that there is an open world, alive around the tunnels the player is restricted to (unlike Bioshock, Half-Life, or a Call of Duty, where the surrounding world is effectively dead). Actually being able to explore that world could have been really satisfying from an experiential perspective, but I can only imagine it would have diluted the story of the game, the problem of the Dark Ones and the player/Artyom's evolving consciousness. All that together made Metro 2033 so remarkable (and because it was dependent on player agency, better than the book IMO).
Story notwithstanding, an open-world Metro—a sadder, oppressive, less hokey Fallout 3—would still be something, if lacking something like the binding thesis of 2033.
Agree you would lose the overal tight narrative..but you could gain with exposing more factions, trading, and just dealing with survival and exploration...my god the possibilities are amazing (and expensive lol)
I would play a scavenger would deals with valuables and travels selling his wares
I think something like vampire masquerade bloodlines, deus ex, and alpha protocol would suit metro very well. Basically a story driven semi open world, with lots of choices and effects. Of course those just happen to be some of my favorites games.
Last Light has been an uneven experience for me. I love the stealth mechanics and taking on a room without raising an alarm or shedding any blood is tense and rewarding. It reminds me of the Batman games, but if I had to play them as Bruce Wayne and without all, "those wonderful toys." I love it. However, when it turns into a monster shooting gallery, the game completely falls apart for me. It always spoils my play session.
Just finished Metro 2033 today and thought to rent this. Wow big improvement. The gunplay is way better. Also, the voice acting is better.
For some reason they have released a post-release trailer for this...
:chubby
New CPU is giving me no stutter. The game is running so much better now without the CPU parking thing. Can't wait to finish the game this weekend.
Just finished this. Great game. I really love the atmosphere of the game. It really makes you feel like your in post-apocalyptic Moscow. Just love the little things they did with the graphics like your gas mask.
I thought the story was cool. Your little follower felt like a better Elizabeth.
A couple of things.
- I've been to Moscow so I still get chills entering and leaving the metro. They got so much right here visually. Not sure where the church is but it looks identical to the Cathedral of the Annunciation.
- Am I wrong or did I hear the word "Stalker"? Is there some tie-in in terms of the fiction, or was that just dropped in for fans?
- Are there achievements for going through the game stealthily? Is it possible to complete most levels without killing anyone? I don't usually look at achievements and I generally play these games naturally. But the stealth is enjoyable enough that I've been tempted to run back through it and try to go all stealth. I plan on going back through it with the language switched to Russian anyway.
I don't know about an achievement but I heard that is how you get the "good" ending.

Oh snap. Metro 2033 did the same thing. I should have known. It had different endings based on choices that weren't explicitly called out.
Finally got back to playing a bit more tonight. I obviously did not finish this game that weekend ages ago. This game is a delight to play on my new system. The CPU upgrade fixed a lot of issues. I got to the part:
Goofy Sex Scene. Yeah, it's a really terribly developed Anna character. The actual "hey, we're probably done for, we might as well have sex" bit wasn't actually that terrible.
At any rate, I'm not sure how much I have left, but I look forward to finishing it up.
That was about where I figured I was.
Went to play some more of this today, only to find on starting the game it will no longer load my saved games. No 'continue' option, no access to different 'chapters', it's like I never played the game before. Looking in the folder I can see all the save files. Tried turning steam cloud off (is it even a steam cloud game?) and restarting etc, copying to a new folder and deleting, re-copying to no avail. Not impressed.
Done! That was pretty fantastic. The only real terrible thing about it was the unrealistic portrayal of female characters. Great stuff, still. I enjoyed it more than 2033 in quite a few ways. It ran better on the hardware I have now which helped. The guns felt amazing. The gas mask stuff was even better. The whole supernatural element actually made sense 3/4 of the way in which was great. There wasn't a {ableist slur} boss battle at the end. Yay!
Here are a few final screenshots that don't spoil anything.
Gorgeous game.

I'm not sure what a solution would be. It is a Steam Cloud game. I found that out when I did my new build. Maybe try setting steam to offline mode?
If you want to try replacing your save in My Documents -> 4A Games -> Metro LL, here is mine. That should at least allow you to start the chapter where you left off. You might need to set Steam to offline mode or something initially.
The picture with полис is a bit of a spoiler if you speak a little Russian. It's cool, though. I think I'm almost there.

This isn't spoiling anything for you, but I have a question.
Through google translate it's "policy." I guess it spoils that there is some sort of government get-together going on. I'm curious if there is further meaning to it. Does it translate to government forum or something like that?
