Metro: Last Light Кatch-all

New trailer. Doesn't look like Deep Silver has messed with it too much. Trolololololol.

You had me going for a second there.

That post was a 1 on the Gravey Scale.

This is not funny!

Look, if you think Deep Silver interfered with 4A too much by adding Jack's (Artyom's new name) sick cinematic stealth-action dismemberments, then don't buy the Season Pass.

I love interesting folks.

Variety in outside environments is looking great.

Edit: Oh yeah, pre-order for Ranger Mode day one DLC.

Great video, and I will totally be getting this. The last game was brilliant (although I felt it suffered from a largely on-rails opening, that awful minecart bit for example).

One thing I will say though, I'd kill for a game that was basically somewhere between Metro and Stalker, but without the supernatural/monster elements of either. Just grimdark apocalypse, with people. Or is that a question for the post-apoc thread?

Normally "DLC" translates to "wait for the GotY (or similar) edition". ...but this....this confuses my principles a bit.

I'll look at the sysreqs, but can anyone speak to running Metro 2033 on a GTX 460-level GPU?

I ran it on a GT 240 with 2gb at 1440x900, and it was beautiful.

I have a happy.

I see Nvidia is giving this away free with purchase of a GTX 660 and higher.. looks like only a few etailers are participating though..

PSA: Preloading's up on Steam now. Downloading now for the glory of the Motherland!

I can't believe this is about to get released. I guess I'll have to buy it.

Review: http://www.polygon.com/game/metro-la...

I skimmed because I didn't want to spoil much. It seems they had some issues using AMD cards. I imagine Nvidia cards will have their own share of issues. Overall, the reviewer was positive, though. Can't wait! It seems like the launch is going to be 12:00 AM EST, so that's 9 PM tonight for me.

Hopefully, I'll get some screenshots and thoughts up tonight. I'll be running an i7 920 @ 3.8 GHz and 2 4GB GTX 680s doing 2560x1440. We'll see how that goes.

I'm all pre-loaded, but the release date in the UK is 16th May for some reason (staggered release dates seem increasingly bizarre in the internet age). Super-excited about it though. I skimmed the review but probably won't read anything more so as not to spoiler myself prior to being able to play it.

I'm wondering if I should start it in Ranger Mode. I know it will be hard, but it'll be better for screenshots not to have the HUD. I think I'll start it that way and then restart or switch the difficulty on-the-fly if that's possible.

Be warned for those getting on PC, the buzz is the port is not great. Terrible FOV that you can't adjust (important for those like me who get FOV sickness), even the highest end cards struggle with it at high detail and there's built-in aim assist that you have to edit config files to disable. It also apparently runs worse on ATI cards. Really makes me wonder what 4A Games was doing in the several months before now that this game was supposed to be done already.

Big Picture and Full Controller support?

Mmmm, I've got my eye on this one. I'll be reading the reviews as they come in. Just started Far Cry 3, however.

How much of the Moscow Metro is actually in the game? I was in Moscow about 9 years ago and the stations were incredible. Stalin's "palaces of the people."

Have a look:

Beautiful. I don't recall Metro 2033 feeling like a destroyed version of that. It really felt more like dark, underground tunnels. That being said, I'll keep my eye out this time and try and take some screenshots if I notice anything.

Runs like crap on my hot new Radeon 7970 card. Looks like if you're running AMD you'd better hope for a patch or some new drivers.

They have a nice little benchmarking tool in the root of the game folder. Here are the settings I used to manage an average of 60 fps at 2560x1440. I'm with Nvidia, though, so I'm sure that's helping. Definitely doesn't run great. I think I'll be able to live with these settings for now so that I can get on with the game. I got to the part where you get your guns, which is pretty cool. I'm going to play it just on normal for starting out. I can go back and do Ranger mode later. I want to make sure I get all the initial hints on how to play.

Edit: Kept those settings but returned Quality to Very High. That put my average from 60 down to 55. I can live with that. Basically it seems that SSAO and Tesselation really kill the framerate. Okay, off to actually play the game now.

SSAA is a real killer. Drops me 20 FPS or so even at the 2X setting. Definitely turn that off if you have FPS issues.

Now I'm confused, I was thinking that was SSAO. I guess it's just anti-aliasing. At any rate, I turned it off and the aliasing isn't bad at 2560x1440. Game looks pretty good.

I played for about 2 hours. The lighting is so good in this game and they're doing quite a few fun things with the light gameplay-wise. I love the game so far. It's running well at the settings I kept it at except it tends to hitch every 10-15 seconds or so. Something just seems a bit off. It happens with and without vsync. Not sure what it is. Probably just the game. For the most part it sticks around a full 60 fps with drops here and there into the 50s and once in awhile into the 40s.

Here are some screenshots. I don't think they're spoiling anything. The whole Nazi thing was in Metro 2033 and the trailers for this game.

The escalators are one of the few remaining things that remind you that it was probably once quite beautiful.

SSAA = Super Sampling Anti Aliasing. It should be rendering 2x or 4x the screen area and scaling it down. It's the 'best' but most effective method of AA, but the most performance expensive.

I need a amd driver, or game patch. Sometimes the lighting is like looking through a screen door. Other places the ground shifts depending on the light hitting it.

Just picked up the PS3 version. I hope to give it a try this evening.
