Metro: Last Light Кatch-all

I started Metro 2033 yesterday and it's much, MUCH better than I expected it to be. No cheap scares, just the good stuff

Is it just me though or is Metro 2033 a beast of a game? It's bringing my PC to its knees, I had to lower the settings in order to run it on my machine (and it's not very old and was quite good when I assembled it)

I can't wait for this though. Those screenshots are jaw-droppingly awesome!

Yeah it is. Metro 2033 has a bunch of DX11 features including tessellation which will tax most computers.

And on that note, for this particular game, turn off tessellation for sure. I saw some screen comparisons and you really can't tell the difference other than it killing your framerate. It tended to favor Nvidia cards when it was released. I don't know if AMD's drivers changed that a few months after it was released.

Courtesy of RPS, here's twelve minutes of Last Light, all the bits we've seen before stitched together:

Thoughts:

• MY ENDING IS NOT CANON?!
• The lighting is glorious
• On-rails sections is on rails
• But it gives way to a pretty spectacular train ride (qv. glorious lighting, also neat-o flapping fabric)

I've been watching the full length trailer again. That section of game is done so so well. The jury rigged weapons are great, distructable cover, the lights, the sense of movement on the train with the tatters of cloth moving, the enemies and the fact that you don't always see them clearly and the run through a civilian area. It's all very smart. I hope the rest of the game is up to the same standard.

It has a sense of presence and place that few games do. Those underground Metro stations feel absolutely real.

Looks like there's still some framerate issues. Hopefully the next generation of video cards will finally be able to run this engine in its full glory.

Seeing as I can't wait to buy Metro 2033 I can't wait for this either! It looks good to, I really like that trailer!

Surprised this didn't get posted yet:

Effin brutal. Can't wait for the game when it eventually comes out. I'm gonna replay Metro 2033 whenever I upgrade my video cards sometime this year.

Loved the trailer. Probably my favorite live action one. I dont understand a work of Russian but damn, that was still powerful.

Yeah, that was the US version, so I think they didn't subtitle on purpose. I think it's actually more effective that way for an English speaker because you focus on the emotion of what people are saying rather than what the words are.

Anything that was said in the video, would not hinder the impact of the trailer for some one that does not understand Russian.

That said, crap another 2013 release -- but, day 1 none the less.

*shudder*

Can't wait!

I wonder how much that trailer cost to produce in comparison to that Skyrim live action trailer. I can tell you which one I found more effective, but probably don't have to.

Totes! A friggin' dragon! Nice try though, Metro.

Apparently I have to.
However I'm not going to argue with the fact that the Metro trailer would have been infinitely improved if those missiles were replaced with dragons.

Arise, thread!

I really hope this doesn't slip any further, I can't wait to get back into that world.

List of things to do before release of Metro last light.

#1 Buy a new video card!!!
#2 Jump up and down in anticipation

It sucks that a crap failed peripheral could potentially pull so many great properties into the grave along with it.

I missed the bit where this was discussed. What exactly are you referring to? I just watched the trailer. It looks pretty good for 360/PS3 footage. I'm surprised they didn't just use PC footage so everything would look purdy.

uDraw is widely credited as being the thing that killed THQ, assuming they don't manage to pull off a miracle and survive.

Thanks!

This is being covered in the THQ thread too, but for those worried about Metro 2034, THQ will likely be bought and the existing games will be published.

Fingers crossed.

So if you're not following the THQ thread/the rest of the Internet, the Metro IP has been bought by Koch Media, so Metro: Last Light should be published by Koch's Deep Silver. You can see their games list there, and it's not a bad list (including Gothic, Risen, STALKER, X3).

On the other hand, there is news like this: Deep Silver to head all further development on Saints Row and Metro franchises.

What does that mean for Last Light? The last I knew it was supposed to be a Q2 2013 release, so I imagine it's about as ready to go as ex-THQ Relic's Company of Heroes 2. Also, Koch won the rights to the property, so hopefully 4A's game can be completed and released. As for future Deep Silver-led Metro games, who can say?

Thoughts? Concerns? Mass hysteria?

As long as metro last light is release I will be happy, since most of the work was done under the old regime it should be fine.

Future games... who knows, but I like dead island so... I suspect all will be okay.

Deep Silver has some highs, as well as some low lows. We'll see how it pans out in the long run, but since LL is so close to release, I'm not worried that it won't be more of what we loved about 2033.

Very nice! Playing my way through Metro 2033 now and really digging the atmosphere. The guns feel and sound a bit meh but it doesn't take away too much. Metro Last Light looks like they really improved gunplay and sound.

Excellent! From what I understand, Metro was basically finished before the THQ implosion so hopefully 4A's getting a little bit more time to add some more polish. Can't wait to play this on PC!

I'm excited for this game.. I'm crossing fingers and toes that my man cave will be completed before this game so I can enjoy it fully...

Sweet!

New trailer. Doesn't look like Deep Silver has messed with it too much. The location has been changed to New York, looks like lots of QTEs and other promises of "very accessible" gameplay, 16-player multiplayer with an upgradeable skill system, pre-order retailer exclusives, day one DLC, and hints about purchaseable weapon packs and XP bonuses.

Looks good.
