I'm not sure if you can get Epcot, but my friend just got LegoLand. He guessed California but it was the one in Denmark. Meanwhile, I'm rapidly becoming a connoisseur of unmarked dirt roads over flat, barren landscapes.

Ha! That's awesome.

So here's my best: 23k, with some light Googling.

My first one was a couple meters down a path with a nice big sign showing the border between Poland and Germany, which was pretty easy to locate when 98% of the border is along a river.

Then it decided to f'sck with me and give me high plains desert in western US (picked northeastern AZ, was northwestern NV), and then the middle of nowhere in Queensland, AUS.

I could have gotten closer with both those guesses, but had already spent 10 minutes a piece clicking down the road.

Super late to the game, but I just discovered this.

My first game was nearly 26K largely thanks to getting two locations that were in cities that I could guess by street signs (one was within 0.3 km) and one that literally put me at the entrance to a national park in Botswana.

Time to play! GeoGuessr now has a challenge mode where you can compete with each other for high scores!

I'm going to setup a challenge and run through it myself. Anyone who wants to can follow suit and after a day or so we'll declare a winner!

I'll limit it to 5 minutes per round. Please don't cheat and look things up, you may only use the game itself and your brain. Also please don't post answers or hints. Feel free to post your final score to brag though

Note: You may want to change your GeoGuessr nickname so that it's not using your real name.

Here's the link for game #1 - good luck!

welp. You clearly have a better grasp of geograpy than I do because I failed hard at most of those

only 11388 points.

Rd --- Pts --- Distance from target

#1 --- 10 ----- 9310.9KM
#2 --- 3749 -- 429.2KM
#3 --- 9 ------- 9355.5KM
#4 --- 3427 --- 563.1KM
#5 --- 4193 -- 262.3KM

That was interesting. Got 19338 points.

17292 with a wrong continent in there.

Looks like Zaque is the Round 1 winner! You can use the round 1 link to view the results, if you've completed the challenge.

Figure I'll post a new round each day, at least until I bore of it

Here's the URL for round 2!

Round 2 this time was rough. My answer was pretty much a wild guess based solely on the language I saw on one sign.

I had round 3 pretty damn close, but second guessed myself at the last minute and ended up half the world away. Damn!

Not my best round ever...

I was pretty excited because I nailed the first one. I then proceeded to just flop on the rest because many of them were outdoors without signs. Or at least, I didn't hop around enough to find a sign.

Tip: Use the arrow keys to travel faster than clicking. Helps in cases where you need to go a long way to find a landmark.

I already like GeoGuessr as it is, but having competitive matches is even better! I'm CButler1632 on the list there, fyi.

You're going to laugh, but I nailed that round with the Spain answer because of a stupid reason: I thought "hey, those trees look like Russell Crowe's trees in Gladiator, and they called him 'Spaniard' in that movie, so maybe that's somewhere in Spain."

BAM. Spain.

I went with Greece on that one (didn't hunt for any signs).

15656 points for the second game. Much better!

Yeah that second one was tough, ended quite far away (38 points) so only got 14707 this time.

Spoiler:

Wow, that one was rough. Literally no clue on the first two. Got pretty close on the third, then that last two I totally screwed up. Ouch!

6820 points

Spoiler:

dont ever airdrop me into strange deserts because chances are I'll never figure out where in the world I am! I got pretty close with the third - I was originally goin to go Japan but I wavered and went with South korea instead, which was still relatively close. I got the last one pretty spot on though which saved me.

I follow in your footsteps pyxistyx. I almost had the fourth one right (well within the correct country at least) but changed it back to my original guess right before time was up. Stupid me.

5919 on the latest round and that's only because I knew the

Spoiler:

Japan

one fairly well since I was there a few months ago.

Edit to remove spoiler. My bad

How far do you guys allow searching from the start point? And do you allow googling for names?

i think since there's a time limit then moving as far as you want from the start point is ok. I draw the line at googling any additional information though - I just stick with what I can see.

Yeah, for competitive play especially I stop short of Googling anything. Moving around to look for clues is fine I think.

Edit: aw geez, I was all over the place that time. Those remote regions with nearly nothing to go off of are just killer for me!

Yeah googling is completely out, and don't read the spoilers or even the thread once you know a new challenge is up just in case.

This is what I go with. The time limit is your distance restriction.

On yesterday's challenge though I'm not sure any time limit would have helped on the first two!

Round 4.

And......... begin!

https://geoguessr.com/challenge/K3Mu...

didn't do well with that one. 9038 points

Spoiler:

I got roughly the correct locations a lot of the time - just too far away from the specific locations. Thank goodness for that truck with the .RU domain on that last one though or I'd have had NO IDEA

Spoiler:

I recognized the cyrillic as Russian on the road signs on the last one, but that's as far as I was able to narrow it down. When in doubt, guess near Moscow ;-)

Aw, I thought I would do better this time, and I kinda did, but I was way off on a few of them!
