Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Catch-All

I think that was more licensing issues rather than a deliberate choice. They also lost the Berserk armor you could buy as well.

I'm sure you're right; still a shame.

Dragon's Dogma, from its best bits to its silliest on-paper-total-nonsense bits all contribute to making me feel like I'm playing D&D in high school in the best possible way. Even the jank and ill-used medieval sounding patois contributes to that feeling.

Verily.

They're masterworks all. You can't go wrong.

I lol'ed.

I think you win at describing Dragon's Dogma. You captured in two sentences what I've struggled with for many paragraphs, and never quite managed.

Dragon's Dogma anime hitting Netflix on September 17th.

Did I know about this and just forget?

Does the fact that it is getting an anime mean they aren't abandoning the franchise?

Does it seem strange that the dragon is basically the game asset instead of something made to fit in with the show's animation?

There were rumblings of a sequel for next gen consoles.

Ehhh, that write-up is paper-thin. Since then Itsuno has mentioned wanting to also return to Project Justice/Rival Schools. The guy has a lot of stuff he'd like to work on. While there's certainly a possibility he'd be doing Dragon's Dogma 2, and while he was basically given carte blanche at the time, that doesn't make it likely that Dragon's Dogma 2 is what is being made now.

I think it confirms DD2 is being made, really. They want to make it and this gives the series more visibility.

But, yes, we knew the anime was being made and you forgot, Chris. Gawd, can't you keep up with every bit of news?!? Is there anything else out there possibly more important than anime based on games?!?

Considering how threadbare the plot was in DD, I can't imagine the anime will be very interesting.

I LOLed at this. So true.

Pretty site the link cces posted contained the entirety of the plot in one para.

I mean, having seen anime adaptations of games with story, it might be better for them to have nothing to work with in order to craft a narrative more suitable for the medium.

Yup, that works for me. I'm in!

Huh. I'm sure I will watch at least a few episodes of that. I mean, it could be terrible, but honestly, the plot can't be any worse than the one in the game.

I'm down.

...and really wanna replay again now...

I played DD on Switch. How much water, if at all, is the experience on a X Box X?

Approximately the same amount of water.

Here's a Switch vs PS4 comparison video, I don't expect the XBone version would be substantially different from the PS4:

So I'd say there isn't any substantial difference in the experience. The game's biggest problem visually is the dated-looking grainy textures either way. Even on PC there's never been a complete texture overhaul mod completed (after several ambitious attempts left unfinished), although there are some ENB/reshades available.

What's wrong with the story in Dragons Dogma?

I was going to comment that this isn't the Arisen because he doesn't look anything like the Arisen characters I've made, but I wonder if this isn't the story of how Duke Edmun came to power. In which case, i know how it ends. As long as he's scrambling on top of Cyclopes and throwing around tornadoes, I'll enjoy it. However, it looks like his Pawn was casting an enchanted arrow and that's bullsh*t because Pawns can't be hybrid classes like Magick Archer. Unless it was a Holy Boon granted by a Mage Arisen, but then the bow would be glowing as well.

I think I played the game too much.

As long as he explains that wolves hunt in packs it's all good.

I'm more anxious to find out how goblins feel about fire.

Yeah was wondering how much they'll follow the game. The story in game literally disappears for the middle part of the game until the very end where it gets sort of insane. Which I genuinely liked. I'd be impressed if they use some of that but wouldn't be surprised if they ignore it.

I enjoyed the game but drifted away after a couple dozen hours. Today I saw the show pop up on Netflix. I'm intruiged.

PC version lets you turn pawn commentary off. Best version.

Wow, this is so much better, for me, with mouse and keyboard. I might actually keep playing this time!

So does the Switch version, as I've just discovered.

But never mind that, I'm off to tame a chimera and unlock the character creator.

So far, the game feels like I remember, but I hope my Monster Hunter muscle memory doesn't get in the way too much.

I forgot how dark night time is in this game. Can't see crap!

Yup, absurdly dark, unlike most games outside of the Souls genre.

Best part of the game is that it marches to the beat of its own drum. I hope for the second one that holds true.
