Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Wii U & 3DS) Catch-All

Also, I discovered that the online rooms are more customizable than they were in Tri. You can name the rooms, and you can password them as well if you want them to be private. So next time we make a room we can post it here (world, lobby, room, password) so we'll be playing with friends and not randoms.

Hah I told myself I'd try new weapons this time around (in Tri I only used Hammers) but once I ran into Qurupeco, I only had orange sharpness on my longsword and dual swords. I got a quick upgrade to the green sharpness hammer and haven't put it down since. I can't quit you, giant hammer.

Hammer is a hard habit to break.

Before I forget I just thought I'd say thanks for the hunters that came out last night: lancejt, Blind_Evil, and cube. It was lots of fun. Good hunt, everyone.

Yeah, good times. It got kind of crowded, so I'm gonna work on a ranged set starting tonight for some variety.

I've been saving up mats to upgrade/forge a stronger bow. I actually don't mind the bow gameplay for boss type stuff. It's really only when you're firing shots at the trash mobs and they just go right over their heads.

Yeah. I got a wii u because of the sale.

drdoak9er on Wii U. For Monster Hunting.

So with the audio coming through the Gamepad, nothing comes through the TV. Odd.

Guess I'll toggle that depending on how I'm playing.

Yeah, it's either/or with the gamepad audio, unfortunately.

ianunderhill, cube and I are gonna do some hunting. If another person wants in, either warp to me using the friend list or we're in Free Play 2, Lobby 5, room gwj huntin. Password is stan

Sweeet!!

No hunting for me tonight, hope you are all having fun! early rise for me tomorrow. work...

As I remarked in IRC following tonight's session: "okay, despite still having a *lot* to learn, that mp session in MH3U has just made up for any regrets I had about obtaining a Wii U."

And while I'm speaking only for myself, I'll note that I'm perfectly serious with that statement. It's definitely not for anyone who tends to skew "I'm impatient, so this is stupid!", and I'll cop to fearing a bit for anyone who isn't inclined to relish diving into games that require learning multiple systems and has thought about justifying a Wii U purchase with this title. The menus aren't all that well organized, there's a heck of a lot of information presented as text...basically, a nice long list of stuff that should make a console game off-putting. I can't imagine what it'd be like to be new at this game and trying to do public multiplayer - what an exercise in frustration it'd be!

But for all the "there isn't a lot of instant gratification" talk I could get into, I'll say it again: wowee, the multiplayer is fun, and has me feeling very motivated to dive into some more single player and learn more of the nuances of how the game's various systems work...of course upgrade my gear and all that fun stuff. While there's no strong narrative to this game (and I wasn't really expecting one), I'm already blown away by the unique behavioral characteristics of the creatures and the way the game relies on it. Having the more experienced hunters in the party tonight actually talk about each monster we went after in those terms lent some serious depth to things, and I'm eager to get sucked further into this one. Fun times were had and will continue to be had, at least for me.

Special thanks to Blind_Evil, cube, and drdoak for tonight's gaming. It was a treat and then some, no question.

Update on using a headset with MH3U:

I was able to use both my Tritton headset made for Wii U and my old single ear phone headset with a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter. Once plugged in it ported chat audio through the earpiece(s) and my voice through the mic. Despite not working with Wii U Chat (which I suspect only supports the mic of the Gamepad), it worked fine with Monster Hunter.

Last night I was not able to get any game audio through my headset, which made using the Tritton impossible, as I couldn't hear anything but chat. It does a good job of isolating outside sounds. How to get game audio through the Gamepad headset jack?

Well, after asking around, it's selectable in the Options menu, but not the one found at the initial menus, but the one found in your hunter info page, in game. When you press "-" and bring up that window, the Options in there let you choose camera angles, and a whole plethora of other options. Near the end is the choice to route game audio through "TV" or through "GamePad". Choose that and it sends all game sound through the GamePad as well. EDIT: not as well, ONLY the Gamepad.

Many have reported that just sitting the Gamepad on your lap and using the built in mic is acceptable. As is holding the Gamepad if you're using it as the primary controller, of course. So you absolutely don't need to buy a headset to enjoy the voice chat feature. And the Mic on/off toggle is on the top right corner of the GamePad screen, so you can always turn it off if you don't want to say anything.

Please add me to the Guild/Friends list. Just started playing today. SpyNavy.

I was absolutely stunned at how far the 4-star urgent monster pushed me. Totally new monster to me, I beat him with less than five minutes left, two faints, and absolutely no healing left. I think it'll be easier with my gunlance.

Good to feel that again.

Welcome SpyNavy! Glad to have another hunter here!

I'm game for joining any multi hunts. A lot of you are already on my list. Feel free to add me if you're not. I'll try to send some invites out as well to those not on my FL.

Thanks.

Add me as well please. JohnnyMojo

I've really been enjoying the game so far. I think I'm ready to start trying some multiplayer, if you wanna add me my name is JayBent. I'm kinda new to Monster Hunter and looking to learn.

Thanks.

My nephew's mother bought him this game and he's been playing at my house.

He just started, literally like yesterday. Is there local co-op?

Anyone link a helpful beginners guide please?

Also, he's on the starter isle. How does he obtain "upgrade orbs?"

thanks

No split screen coop, but up to 3 3ds copies can play with a wii u.
This is the sort of definitive guide to MH IMO. It's an 8 dollar PDF, but worth it. Great layout and great conversational approach.

You find armor spheres while mining. Any node can make it, but will be more likely with the am halite giving veins.

I've heard good things about that beginner's guide. I also like to use this wiki.

I really recommend that beginners guide from culty. very good.

You can also get armor spheres as quest rewards, so just keep doing those quests!

option to request friendship is grated out. I registered you directly in Friends list also.

Sorry. I'll try and figure out what that's about.
I just got the Wii U and I'm still trying to figure out the interface.

I had never opened miiverse, so that's taken care of.

Great! No worries!

Anyone up for the Lagiacrus HR 1 urgent tonight?

Darn double post.

If not Lagiacrus, I could do Qurupeco farming.

What time?

I could be in for some peco farming.

I'm game for monster murder.
