Seattle prepares to receive its new Chairman

well, we have arrived

Welcome!

I've now been in Seattle (and the U.S.) for an entire month, so I feel fully qualified to extend the warm embrace (what "chill"?) of the city to you.

Don't forget we have a Seattle Facebook group. Friend me up and I can invite you.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/gwjs...

I had no idea.

Brilliant, thanks!

[de-dupe]

What?!? I've been here 3 years and had no idea there was a FB group or that there were so many GWJers in the area! Joined!

I don't live there anymore and I want to join.

If I visit once a year does that count?

Moved just north of you to Bellingham from San Diego just over a year ago. Big adjustment, but the people are cool up here, it's better for raising kids IMO, and though you pay for it with long dismal winters, spring, summer, and early fall are just gorgeous in the Pacific Northwest.

Glad to finally be here, and I can't say I've felt any chill at all--I think Vermonters are a bit chillier. Instead, almost every person I've met in our various shopping travails has cracked some sort of silly joke, usually about the price of something being $10 million dollars or how I was going to get my couch up three flights of stairs. It's made the whole moving experience a lot more relaxing than it could have been.

More importantly, had the great pleasure of meeting Edwin, too briefly to be sure (had a very appropriate shirt on for welcoming me, too :)). Look forward to meeting more of you in the coming weeks!

Have we planned a s&t for you yet Mao? I know they held one a few weeks ago but wasn't sure if it was in your honor.

Yeah that was well before I got here. If anyone does plan something, which would be awesome, my only caveat is that it would need to be a daytime thing, as there's a certain 1-year-old who seems to think himself a more supreme leader than myself and demands his story before beddy time.

Hi everyone! Been in Seattle little over a year and never thought to check the boards out for other folks in Seattle!

Welcome!

I look forward to some sort of get together in this area, my schedule's just too erratic lately to plan anything myself. But if GWJers are in the area on July 4, I think we'll be at Bellevue's Downtown Park for the fireworks.

IIRC this sort of turned into the unofficial Seattle thread. I just got a job offer today that would place me in Seattle for 2-3 weeks for training. I would need to find temporary housing for that time before moving again to Houston for at least 3 months, after the project in Houston was done I would likely return to Seattle. If anyone has advice or leads for me I would greatly appreciate it.

I suspect my next door neighbor has his house up on airbnb.com. I couldn't find it though. Either way, that might be a good place to look for temporary housing.

The office is like a block from the Pioneer Square Best Western, if they'll spring for hotel. If not, you're really close to a transit tunnel entrance so you have lots of housing options. PM me or post more details of what you're looking for.

I'm not necessarily leaving. I was effectively told to expect an offer that would likely have me working in Framingham.

WOOHOO! Now I don't have to plan a "S0LID is leaving us S&T", and can work on a "S0LID has an awesome job S&T"

ANNUAL NAKED CYCLIST DAY

For all the new folks in town, this weekend is a tradition that should not be missed. It's the Fremont Summer Solstice Fair and Parade.

Possible NSFW images. Sorry.

Hah, yeah, I wasn't that far into the drinking. Posting from my phone and not paying attention got me there.

So my deadline for accepting the position is Wednesday the 26th by close of business EST. I'll post about my decision here, but I would be starting work in seattle on July 8th.

Sweet! Summer is scheduled to start a couple days before that, too.

Ain't that the truth

Well, I accepted the offer. It looks like I'll probably fly out there with a couple of suitcases and go from there. Going to take most of my worldly possessions back to my parents house in upstate NY (their idea), and fly out from Rochester or Buffalo around the 6th or so of July. Biggest change of my life so far.

Some of my colleagues down in Portland are blogging about beer, focusing on the upcoming Oregon Brewers Festival

I won't get down there for it, but I do plan on making a trip during some lower-key event this summer. Wouldn't mind running into some GWJer folks.

Any Seattleites going to the Summer Celebration on Mercer Island this weekend? I think we're going.

Traffic's going to be boned.
