An open-world Metal Gear Solid game?
It kicks off 9 years after MGS 4 with Snake having been in a coma. Looks nice! Slated for the PS3 and 360.
Here's the trailer from earlier this year, when they were pretending that this was just a game called The Phantom Pain.

Based on the timeline it's actually Big Boss, not Snake.
Also, and this is just... information, but David Hayter is not voicing him. So there's that.

Yep, Big Boss = Kiefer Sutherland. I still think Solid Snake will show up and be voiced by Hayer. Hell Solid Snake may even be the bad guy in this one.

Interesting idea, and the way Kojima works... kinda probable?
I'm in no matter what really. The insanity of this series grabs me completely pretty much every time.

That's only if they skip to the Metal Gear time period. As of the trailer, it's definitely in the 60's MGS3/Peace Walker timeframe.
How is it that great companies making great games go under but we still get yet another MGS game?

True...unless the game changes the time period sometime during the game. I'm with Thin J, you can't put anything past Kojima.
Holy sh*t, this looks marvelously insane! The hospital sequence looks amazing.

You mean besides coherent dialogue and plotlines? I kid, I kid.
I'm actually really looking forward to this.
Any hints of a release date?
If it's PS3/360, I would assume 2013 is implied.

The trailer said current gen ps3/360. I'll be bummed if it doesn't end up on a next gen console or PC.

Me too. That Fox Engine looks fine.
Edit: I wonder what XOF will be? The trailer showed FOX backwards a bunch of times. Maybe a buncha' rogue FOX dudes?
Maybe it takes place sometime between the old Metal Gear games and Metal Gear Solid? Big Boss is coma/injured from fighting Solid Snake? It says "from FOX two phantoms are born" - gotta be Solid and Liquid. "Phantom battle waged by the vanished" Maybe its what Big Boss is up to during the events of MGS? My Metal Gear lore is pretty bad so I'm probably way off the mark.
Anyway, can't wait. I love these games so much

More than likely this game will replace the previously held canon. It will likely foreshadow the events that take place in the future and also make the story much more convoluted.
I'm confused. Is this Ground Zeroes renamed? Or is Ground Zeroes a different entry in the MGS universe?

Ground Zeroes was absorbed into this game, I think.
also make the story much more convoluted.
Well that's all we can hope for!

Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V are two separate games.
Or not.

Thanks, Kojima!

Konami is saying they are separate games.
Double post.

Then don't buy it.

The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Are Two Separate Games
Kojima is saying that the two games together make up Metal Gear Solid V. Of course, Konami can't at this time comment on whether or not they're two games in the same package or two different games with different releases or what. Ground Zeroes takes place before The Phantom Pain and sets the stage for the trailer in the OP.

Jesus Christ. The game(s) isn't even out yet, and already we have a convoluted story!! How do you do it, Kojima?!

Ha. The part that makes it most crazy to me is that one of the trailers I just saw with the xof guys was used for both titles.
One of my all time favourite franchises, the characters the MGS games have come up with are just insanely good, its like The Wire of videogames. The new engine looks superb, the interaction & animations are top notch, please let this release on PS4!
Holy.sh*t.I.am.there.
I knew that Hayter wasn't the VA for Big Boss this time but I didn't know there was so much insanity going on around the internet about it.
I've always liked Hayter as Solid Snake but I never really liked that he had the same voice for Big Boss.

I always liked it. It seemed to emphasize the idea that Solid was a clone of Big Boss. Of course that doesn't hold up because neither Liquid nor Solidus had the same voice actor... but I give that a pass because both Solid and Big Boss and the stars of the show.
I'm pretty pissed about the voice change though. I just played MGS4 for the first time, and I remember distinctly enjoying Hayter's over-the-top voice acting just like I did in past games. It added a level of cheesiness and campiness that kind of put the whole series in a good place for me.
It's a similar thing with Raiden in Revengence. I'm just a sucker for how wacky Kojima's universe can get while still being completely deadpan serious at the same time. If this new voice actor loses some of that, I will be quite disappointed.
Sounds pretty likely that Hayter is back on

Seriously, Hideo Kojima is one of the most insane developers there is.
