Recommend me a Cable modem

My cable modem is currently 6-7 years old, I have comcast and with their speed doubling today, I got maybe 5mb increase in download. Anyone have recomendations on a docis 3 cable modem compatable with Comcast?

Also, my wireless router is about the same age, it has external antennas...desktop is ethernet connected to it, but use the wireless downstairs for xbox/tablets/other gamign accessories.

From an installer perspective, I'd stick with Motorola or Arris in terms brands. They tend to be a bit more stable/reliable than brands like Ubee or SMC. I think I remember a few people on here were using the Motorola SB6121, and I like seeing those when I do a customer-owned modem install. I wish we carried them.

I don't keep up with wireless stuff enough to give a good recommendation. I think there's a "recommend me" thread for them already though.

've been ok with my Time Warner-supplied UBEE since I got it, although I forced it into bridge mode and use my own routing behind it. It was laggy in its default mode.

Well for the cable modem I ended up ordering the 6141, as reading the specs, it will allow for faster downloads/uploads .(8 channels as opposed to the 4 channels of the 6121) Its high rated on both Newegg as well as Amazon for reviews, and it was only $13 more than the 6121. Plus I had a $10 gc for Amazon and did the free shipping.

Any updates? We are moving and I want to buy my own cable modem.

I see this on sale at Amazon right now:

I have this one coming in today based on recommendations in the router thread: Zoom 5341. I don't get the cable installed until Monday, so hopefully it works well.

Thanks!

I'm using an Arris/Motorola SB6183. TWC is supposed to be bumping my neighborhood up to 300 Mbps in the near future and I wanted to go with something on their approved list to handle that speed.

That's the one I'm planning to get for our new house in a few weeks. Amazon reviews are good. Doesn't sound like there are shenanigans getting it signed up like some of the other modems on the Comcast/TWC approved list of modems.

I've got one of the SB6121s. I haven't had any issues getting it on to TWC's network at all.
