PXA's Extra Life 2012 Campaign - Amnesia Stream Done, Maybe More In Future

Sounds like an awesome time, sorry I missed it. For the next one edit the thread title so people that browse the forum see the date and time!

Enh, I don't really care if he came from Reddit or not. To be honest, I didn't even care he was a hacker. If I was playing seriously, might have bothered me but playing as we were and seeing the way the guy did it was just hysterical.

I don't know if I made the statement(s) that prompted that, but I hope you weren't offended. I didn't mean anything other than "when word of your Dark Souls charity livestream starts making the rounds on reddit, you're bound to get invaded". There's just no getting around it - it's a question of publicity re:a game where one of the most popular mechanics is dropping into other people's games. It's totally fair. Not to mention entertaining.

EDIT: And at 6:43:48 - AFK Christmas Party.

Ah, ronin, are you referring to the grave lord scare? That was hilarious and terrifying at the same time XD

Aw, totally missed this. I'm happy that you hit your goal and more! Can't wait for you to settle on when you'll be doing the others so I can at least watch them. I will drop everything just to watch you play through Amnesia!

Haha, not offended at all. Just hoping nobody thinks everyone from reddit is a butthead. That said, that hacker guy could've done a whole lot worse with the tools he was using. He did seem like he was just goofing about, but it's possible for people who know how to use CheatEngine to change themselves to host and kill bosses/NPCs, steal items out of chests, teleport enemies around, etc.

But yeah, pretty much every Dark Souls stream I've seen has had folks showing up trying to cause trouble. It's gonna happen no matter what community is involved. In fact, I'm surprised that he was the only guy that did something like this given the amount of people who were watching the stream at some points!

EDIT: Also I am really bad at forums apparently. Can't figure out how to properly quote someone.

Ronin, you can't because on these forums new members can't use HTML code, just plain text.

In total, I probably only caught around five hours (maaaaaybe six) of the stream, but that was highly entertaining and it was fun to be able to chat with PXA during the stream via that text window too. That was great, and congrats on the successful fund-raising!

Yeah, it was an extremely good time from the little bit I had spent on the stream. Wish I could've been on for the late night activities, but it sounds like it was an awesome time I'll definitely be checking out the archive later on. Great job, Parallax!

Also, if you need any assistance with Twitch or your streaming app, always feel free to hit me up and I'll do what I can to help out.

I think I've generally got it figured out, Twitch is just not a well put together site. Their player is poor, their chat is poor, their mobile apps are a joke, their YouTube upload function doesn't work and though it benefited me, that you can use a script to hack their system and download archives is very telling. It's a shame because there are other options available that XSplit supports but Twitch is far and away the biggest community so if you aren't streaming there, you won't get noticed as much. XSplit can stream to multiple sources at once but I think even my work's fibre connection would struggle to pump out more than one 720p feed at the same time.

Did you end up with any stretches where nobody was on?
Every time I checked there was lots of activity; but then again, I was asleep during the suspect hours.

No, which is what amazes me. I never had less than a half dozen viewers and most of the time, it was close to 20. Even in the dead middle of the night, I had several people chatting (most from other parts of the world where it wasn't the dead of night) and some of those who left just did because they couldn't stay up any more. According to XSplit, the stream peaked at around 40 viewers which is a dot in terms of some of the big Twitch people but was far more than the half dozen or so I expected.

I was surprised how many non-GWJ peeps showed up. Very cool.

Yeah I was assuming that everyone you were playing with was already on GWJ. It's nice to see we pulled in a few new people from the experience.

Oh, I didn't think this was any sort of origination site, it wasn't one of the prevalent ones to choose when I donated, I just picked 'other'.

True, but if it is 'just' or mostly Goodjers anyway... why not go for the other and better options? We will find you no matter what

Honestly, as much as it sucks, i'm glad it was on twitch. Me, as well as several others i talked to in chat, had never even heard of gwj and would not have found the stream otherwise

Fair point

To both of you, new to the site- check it out. It offers a lot for different tastes. Some people just spend time on the forums, others download the podcast also (which is a great cast), and there's also great front page articles throughout the week. Glad Pxa's stream brought you here- feel free to stretch your legs and see if the community has anything to offer you beyond just Dark Souls (I kind of bet it does).

Hey all. Turns out updating the main post in a thread doesn't bump it so I'm just putting this in here so that happens.

I'll be tentatively doing my second stream of Duke Nukem Forever next Saturday the 11th at 10am! This date may change if work or life circumstances require it and I'm not yet sure when the Amnesia freak show will happen but if this merger at work doesn't take too long, I hope not too long after. All the info's in the original post and people can still donate so feel free to tell your friends! See you on Twitch!

I cannot be the only person who would rather donate to watch you continue Dark Souls.

I've got $50 right here if you pick up Dark Souls where you left off, and in the spirit of my pledges for progress idea, $100 if you beat the game in your second session.

Yeah, I'll be there to help whenever you feel like playing Dark Souls again.

With the time difference now..not sure if I can even make it But will try!

So an interesting thing happened this week. Rogers announced that they're increasing the download and upload speeds of their cable connections significantly over the next little while, which likely means my ISP will be doing the same. It's possible that this increase might be enough to let me live stream from home (though I won't know until I test it and I also don't know when it's going to happen). I'd love to finish Dark Souls and live stream it when I do so if this happens soon, I'm hoping to just do another show people can watch where I'll endeavour to finish it up with the awesome Soopagroup! That will be a future thing but hopefully soon.

As I said before, I'll be playing Duke Nukem forever starting this Sunday at 10am EST! It should be a fun, snark filled show so feel free to tune in and chat! I had some issues getting the game working with XSplit this week but they seem to have been solved. I'll be chatting on my laptop since swapping out of the game makes the stream go black. Can't expect them to put a lot of effort into support this pile I guess. I hope to see a bunch of people there! This should still be a lot of fun and then at some point in the hopefully near future, the Amnesia show will happen which is something that will be a spectacle indeed. Also, it turns out donations are still open so please tell your friends to head on over to my portal page if you want. Hope to see you all on Twitch!

Will you play Duke Nukem with our without the strategy guide?
Might drop by!

I'm hoping to avoid any guides but if I end up getting stuck (which I've heard can happen), I will either rely on the chat or use GameFAQs after a certain point. I'm only willing to abuse myself so much.

You can't do that on the livestream, it's against the TOS.

But think of the potential ad revenue! ...or not.

Hey all! Just a quick reminder that I go LIVE in approximately 5 minutes on my Twitch channel! This should be a wonderful barrel of awful.
