Bioshock Infinite Catch-All

Pre-ordered the premium addition. Kind of bummed that I missed out on the Ultimate edition, but then again I honestly don't need a giant steampunk bird statue...

There's always the trade-off against time (/money/quality, choose two). They could have made a game called Bioshock Infinite in two weeks. The question is whether the game they're releasing is what they wanted.

Well, right, but their original ship date was more than a week away. I wonder if they could have gotten this product out at that time?

I guess manufacturing costs not only for discs and packaging, but for limited editions and the contents within might factor. That's a lot of product to put together and ship out to a lot of stores. What's the International date like, too? Shipping over seas is time consuming, I'd imagine.

As it's got a jacked price for Aussies (20 USD more), I think I'll have to get a Goodjer to gift it to me on steam. Not sure how this works with pre-orders so I suspect I'll wait till release.

All the excited for this.

Man, I knew I should have ordered three or four of those. Oh, well.

Although it's nominally the same price on Green Man Gaming, you can use their unscrew the Aussies code GMGAU-3J9MF-MUINW to bring it down to $55. It's cheap on OzGameShop too, haven't used them before though.

And previously to that it was last Autumn.

Looks like I'll be coughing up $79 for the console version here in Aus. More than a bit sick of this gouging.
Having trouble keeping myself in the dark on this though, most exciting title of the year by a country mile.

Something I realised is that this is the first game in quite a long while where I've started caring about not watching the numerous hype trailers to avoid spoilers. To a certain extent I'm expecting it to follow the shock formula, but if there's a "WYK" or Polito in this game you only get one time to experience the reveal. I can make guesses, and the usual paranoia of 'people are not who they claim to be'.

I'm in the same boat, but the way they are doing the trailers in the old-timey film reel way sounds really cool, so I'll probably watch all of them after I complete the game.

Also, I would take the fact that it has gone gold already to be a very good sign. Most games come in hot under the wire to get through cert. Usually when a game is already being put into production over a month before release date, it's because something has made the publisher extremely confident in the notion that they need a heavier marketing push, more copies on shelves than expected, and review copies to be everywhere because they expect universal praise.

I think they committed to a release date a little while back, at least for the PC version they've pre-sold a bunch of keys to AMD for bundles (which I'm waiting on).

Unless you're in complete media blackout and don't know about the game at a very high level, the mockumentary shorts they've released in the last two weeks haven't really hit spoiler levels. They're mostly just overview / world building.

Spoiler:

However, I'm staying clear of the Elizabeth focused trailer they just put out. I already have some thoughts about her role in the game, and I'd rather not have that changed before going into the game.

My problem isn't just about the main plot, but all the little details. While they won't show the full game, they'll show some things of the world, how things work, and so on. I guess I just want to experience them the first time in game rather than "oh, here's the bit in the trailer".

I did watch the trailer, and to Scratched's point, that one is showing off some details about Elizabeth's role in Columbia. I hope it's nothing major, like the kind of stuff you'd learn in the first few minutes anyway, but we'll have to wait and see.

I pre-ordered at GreenManGaming, for the $17 store credit. I'm not really sure how the Industrial Revolution rewards are going to work out, since the full game will be a Steam key and Industrial Revolution differentiates between the PC version and the Steam version. I followed GMG's instructions so I guess they know what they're doing.

Yeah, that game's not all that fun. I mean, it's not bad, but I don't know if it's 59 levels worth of not bad. At least you get all the in-game items just for signing in. All you get for completing it is some social media nonsense.

I imagine that pressing and shipping at the scale this game requires would be, at least, an expensive rush job in a week. They might have made their original date but I'm glad they didn't try. Working in tech/development, in my experience, being in crunch mode to meet a tough deadline often leads to a lot of subtle bugs sneaking by or even being added in; when you are sleep deprived and overworked, you don't do the job as well. I hope the extra time means the game was finished up by devs who got sufficient rest and worked with fresh eyes.

Of course, either way, hindsight is 20/20: you can't know how long exactly it is going to take, so better to estimate conservatively. Otherwise you risk ending up like Assassin's Creed III, shipping a game with a bunch of bugs that isn't really "done" until you get the patches a few months after release.

Wait, you got it already?

I ordered through Amazon and haven't gotten any of the bonuses yet... anybody else order through Amazon? Do I need to pester them?

The PC version is only steamworks, so it'll have to go through steam for the bonuses.

I preorded through Bestbuy in december and got my bonus content that day in an email; still trying to complete all the mini game levels before it comes out though.

I'm happy to help when/if the time comes! That goes for any regular Goodjer that needs to do the gift shuffle.

Yeah, I got the URL and code immediately. On the invoice, in fact.

Beeporama, I just checked mine and found the emails from Amazon with instructions to activate things. Haven't looked into what things exactly, but the emails were marked as delivered yesterday, and I preordered the day before that.

$20 Season pass, three content packs and additional gear: http://www.polygon.com/2013/2/21/401...

The pass includes three packs that will add to Infinite's story as well as new characters, weapons and skills.

Hmmmm...

:(

That's fine. I will buy it when it shows up on GMG.

Considering there's no multiplayer mode, that's going to be more story content or challenge modes. I'm fine with $20 for more content, although slightly grumpy about yet another season pass.

Also, what's the point of a weapon skin in a single-player game?

To show off in all your screenshots and live streams

I'm still in, but I'm going to make a grouchy face and try not to play it for a couple of months after release.
