Hah! Strelok is hilarious.

Well, finally got up the cajones to take my new Oracle build and 1's skills onto the ladder. Did all 5 of my placement matches and got places 25th in Silver! Big surprise and awesome win for me! Allow me to /dance with muh zealots for a moment...

I won 3 of my placement matches. 1 of which was a tenuous win that I finally got out of a canon rush! That was fun to see the dude set up shop outside of my base, but getting scouted before he could get in. Then grabbing up a couple oracles and DESTROYING his mineral line and him GGing! That was my first fist pump at the new units. Other than that, I got matched up in my placements against all Toss opponents. I was not amused >.<

Okay, done rambling! But Yay! for Silver! (I know, I know, most of you guys are up in gold and Plat. But ya gotta at least give me this teeny *tiny* victory :p)

Nice!
Playing AI games, just to get some speed in my gaming style. I've noticed I watch to much and don't do enough lol

That's awesome, congrats. I'm still in Bronze. I need to play and ladder more.

They slimmed down Bronze and Silver and expanded gold. It *should* be a little easier to move up a bit now compared to how it was before.

So after not being able to install a blizzard game ever since they changed the games to streaming (play while install) I installed the game on another PC and copied it over. Now instead of hanging at installer, the game hangs 10-20 seconds after it loads.
Good thing that I got the Starter Edition and didn't jump right back buying the game again. For whatever reason my hardware now just doesn't want this game to run anymore.

Have you deleted the Battle.net and Blizzard Entertainment folders in the C:\ProgramData folder? (Assuming Win7 here, folder locations are different if you're still in XP)

I've seen multiple people have issues with installs and playing that end up fixing it by just deleting those folders.

Yeah, I've deleted and tried all the suggested fixes around the net. Nothing helped.

I managed to get it running though, lowered settings, updated my video card drivers and the game didn't hang this time, although the HOTS starter edition is a bit more featureless than WoL - less maps to choose from in customs, etc.

Muhahahaha, shipped my computer via Fedex' ship and pack. After replacing the busted heatsink (courtesy of Fedex), I am now 30/5 mbps and ready to go!

Oh, and for some reason my hot keys didn't work so I was mousing through the whole game.

Yeaaah... I wouldn't have played that one out

Did my placement matches yesterday, won the first quite handily, lost the next 3 to early roach pressure and my connection dropped early on the 5th so was a loss.

Then I had the most annoying game ever. PvP he was harassing my probes with oracles, but he never pressured me so the game dragged on interminably. Oh, and for some reason my hot keys didn't work so I was mousing through the whole game.

I considered dropping, but thought I'd see how I'd do. I think I could have won that game with hotkeys, my economy would have been much better.

Hah! Strelok is hilarious.

Probably the only time he (my brother-in-law) will get to play a grand master level player (he's actually in platinum), he just happened to be playing whilst Strelok was starting out in HotS and working (ok, murdering) his way back up the ladder.

*Anybody else going to be hopping on and playing some tonight?

Also, I decided to experiment with Twitch's export to Youtube function with one of the more fun if sloppy games I played last week.

And since I can't do videos longer than 15 minutes, part 2:

Like I said, sloppy, but was fun. I feel like if he hadn't backed off around the ~27 minute mark he could have just come farther in and killed me, but I'm not completely sure. I still had a pretty decent muta count.

I kinda like the back and forth. Not so much these two huge armies and one final battle.

My favorite moment of the whole game was about 2:40 or so into the second youtube video. Pick off most of a small group of stalkers, move up into what should have been his 4th and pick off five templar before they get to do anything, and then using the collapsible debris/building/whateveritis up there to cut his army off from chasing me in time to save the 4th he did take in the far north.

It felt pretty slick in the moment.

I'm back with internet and a computer. I'll probably be around for a few games finally if anyone is playing tonight.

I'm already on. About to play an AI game or two to kind of get back into it. I ended up not playing at all after my ladder session last Thursday night

I had to get to level 60 with my hardcore Diablo character. Now that I'm done with that, I'm switching my focus back to Starcraft. Hopefully you'll be seeing me on a lot more often. When I do get on, I'm going to jump on Vent too because I need all the help I can get. Hopefully some of you guys can help get me out of Bronze league.

I've been idling in vent while I play. Nobody else is though

I only have lame excuses. So don't mind me!

So I finally got enough confidence in my ability to do anything correctly (after playing the increasing AI), and did my placement matches.

I went 1-4 but 2 of those I probably should have won with more practice (one was desperation DT's and the other was Medivac drops).

I'm playing Zerg and while I'm really happy with my early game timings and play, my mid-game/lategame is pretty poor right now

I was placed in bronze, which I was a little disappointed in for a second, then I remembered these were my first 5 games of any SC game competitively, so then I wasn't disappointed.

It's hard as I'm used to doing pretty well at competitive games, although they tend to be FPS's.

Anyway, looking forward to playing more and getting better. Hoping to go for ~2 games a night.

Keep going, I have been playing it for a while, and I honestly miss the time when I was in bronze... so much to figure out. The game gets so much different as you go up in levels. It keeps it fresh all the time. Also the matchmaking works really well once you have played about 10-20 games...

Yeah, this is the impression I got. I spose it's a bit like TF2 knowing all of the typical turret locations as well as where all the health & ammo packs are located... I tend to forget I've put 850+ hrs into that game...

Started to get into the swing of things myself. Burned up from rank 70 to rank 16 in my Bronze division using an immortal/ sentry heavy build. So of course I started getting matched against Gold players :/ And the build doesn't work so well against Protoss.

The winning streak came to an end, but I don't think I disgrace myself against the stronger guys.

Yeah you really just have to kind of keep going. At those lower levels the absolute most important thing is just straight macro. Just have more stuff than the other guy at all times. All about spending your resources and keeping your economy going.

I did my placement on launch day (smoothest always-online-game launch ever?) and was disappointed to be placed in Silver (down from Gold in WoL) but I played 3-4 more games and was then promoted to Gold. Haven't played since

I haven't played any more since it put me in Platinum. I think mostly for fear it was a fluke and not wanting to get dropped back down

I've been kinda feeling the same way about being placed in Silver, haha! I mean, I've been trying to play Bioshock: Infinite and slowly soak in that game when I have the time. But mostly, I've been lingering on SC2 but shying away just because I don't want to be demoted and haven't put in the time to keep my skills anywhere near sharp :p
