That's what I assumed.
I also assume if I am capturing our reactions via a nice webcam, I'd simply sync the elgato footage with the camera footage, correct?
Pretty much, yeah.
I haven't actually used an ElGato, so I'm a bit out of my depth, but its basically an element for your streaming software to use like your webcam or anything else you've put in place.
Cool. I'm sure I'll figure it out in any case.
Just in case someone streams from linux...but I am guessing no one is really
Not a huge tutorial or anything.
How to livestream from Linux to Twitch, a simple guide to being awesome on Linux

.....yay?
Player.me is launching a new app/tool to help you build your overlay and even get you up and streaming. Works either with your existing streaming softwear, or can get you up and going: https://twitter.com/playerdotme/stat...
It's exactly as the Curse app. Well, Curse got bought by Twitch.
I'm getting a black screen with OBS studio. I'm using Win10. I tried changing some settings for nvidia card, to no success.
Any one had issue with OBS?
What are you trying to record, and which mode are you using to record it?

Yeah, I changed it to Game Capture. I was using Windows, as I thought it was the same as the Classic version. Guess not.

Yeah, game capture does get most things, but some games need to be captured in a window. Glad you figured it out.
I've wished for this to exist for a while now - and it seems ElGato is psychic:

Even with two monitors, trying to get out of full-screen games to control my stream can be distracting/take me out of the moment. I've wanted someone to make this exact device, and the reviews are pretty solid:
The downside for me, personally is that they don't presently support XSplit or Beam - but that's supposed to be coming soon.
HAhahaha oh wow.
I thought this panel recording at Twitchcon was pretty interesting. Worth a watch if you are interested at all in LGBT issues and gaming.
That switcher is rad. Makes me want to stream.
Had posted this under the general section threads as a noob question...
I have several panels at the bottom of my Twitch Channel that I like to advertise cool groups that I am part of. And I was wondering if I could use a logo to advertise the site to hopefully generate some additional traffic for the site. I didn't see anything regarding this in the Code of Conduct or other introductory sections/articles. I may have overlooked it though. I sometimes have a hard time thinking of good search terms.
Do you guys have a specific GWJ logo for outside linking to the page or anything like that?
Thanks a lot and happy gaming!
Big news! Monetization is about to be a lot more attainable for smaller streamers on Twitch: https://blog.twitch.tv/and-now-somet...
Wow.
That's. . . actually pretty huge. As much as I'd love to be a full time streamer, I'm pretty small time due to being 40, having a family, and a full-time job. . .
. . . but I'd actually qualify for the Affiliate program as listed if I still streamed on Twitch.
I'm suddenly tempted to start dual-streaming again.
Friends, today I'm gonna be streaming the amazing multiplayer mod for Freelancer, called Discovery Freelancer, for a few hours starting at 9 AM Pacific time. The game and the mod are free, so please feel free to join me if you're so inclined. There's a large PVE/PVP event going on this weekend as well that I hope to partake in. Thanks!

Anyone have any experience in explaining firmly but politely that calling the streamer things like "dreamgirl", "super girl" and "diamond girl" are inappropriate? And people wonder why there aren't as many female streamers. =/
The only way I've seen women deal with those people is very strict declared rules enforced by very active channel moderators and a bot handling the usual stuff like slurs automatically.
Thanks ThinJ. I'm conflicted because on the one hand, these aren't slurs, but on the other hand, it's making me uncomfortable. Uncomfortable enough to decide not to stream last night.
I'm of the mindset that anyone who wants to stream with a chat needs at least one person to watch along, who's able to drop the hammer at a moment's notice. Comments don't need to be intentionally offensive to be completely unacceptable, and that needs to be made clear–something that can be hard to do for the streamer, but much easier for a friend in the chat.
Of course, being there for every stream and constantly watching is not an easy ask, and establishing a stable of moderators takes time, effort, and let's face it, luck. Alternatively, if it happens again, you can just drop a line to someone you trust, and they can hop in to deal with it. That's also a big mood boost, let me tell you what. I've never modded a stream, but I handled several forums back in the day, and taking out the internet trash never got old.
I hope it never happens again, but if you continue streaming, it almost certainly will. In that event, don't feel conflicted! Trust your gut–if you're uncomfortable, shut that sh*t down. You get to decide what the threshold is, no one else.
And it's my experience that "firm, but polite" is interpreted as "your behavior is excellent, please continue".

Firm but polite from the streamer works - when coupled with a moderator taking action on the comments. Deleting what's inappropriate, delivering timeouts, and kicks/bans as needed.
Which really only serves to drive your point home, I think.
Find a moderator or three. Let them know what you don't want to see in chat. Let them know you've got their back (because some people WILL complain - publicly AND privately about what a "jerk" your moderator is, and how they were just trying to be nice, but they were mean for deleting comments, etc).
Moderators are great because they let you be firm but polite, while still showing your channel has rules.
I've no practical advice, Eleima, I just wanna say it sucks you have to deal with that at all.
