Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

Looks like I'm getting too slow on the trigger, I missed both Mogg and Delerat.

For myself, I keep going back and forth on Xcom and Dishonored. After the gushing on the podcast, I'm sold, but do I wait for another Amazon sale, or just bite the bullet with the decent discount on Steam... Indecision!

Surprisingly I find myself with a little extra cash at the end of this month, but I also own so many things that are on sale, so I've been playing Santa Shark.

What's the word on Arma 2? I was talking to a buddy the other day and he mentioned wanting to play a more realistic combat game. No hiding in a corner to regain health, bullet sponges, etc. Will this scratch that itch?

Thanks, Mogg, for Splinter Cell: Conviction! I'm going to break a toilet with someone's face! Like Liam Neeson!

Huge thanks for Malor for Grimrock. I'm looking forward to getting back home tomorrow and installing it. It's been said plenty before, but this is an amazing community. I'll be sure to pass a few gifts of something on before the end of the sale.

Oh and I nearly forgot... I have an extra copy of Torchlight II hanging around doing nothing. PM me your email or steam community URL if you want it.

EDIT: Gone!

LA Noire? Yes, No? (Was at work all night so skimmed a few pages!)

Woah... I sent BadKen that PM and then was greeted with gift bombardment when I sat down at my computer.

Thank you to tuffalobuffalo for Thirty Flights of Lovin'

Thank you to Archangel for Indie Game: The Movie

and thanks to BadKen for Torchlight II!

I will be paying back the good deeds in the coming days <3

For $5, yes. Just don't expect an open world game, even though it's set in an open world. Decent story. Interesting experiment. Great voice acting. Amazing work with the facial animations. It's almost like part adventure game part rockstar action game.

Many, many thanks to Merphle for waking up to a gift of To the Moon! I'm definitely looking forward to this one, everyone says it's a gem.

Let me know how that is. It's really looks like it would scratch my FF3 itch. But I haven't been able to bring myself to bite it yet.

Definitely will! My pile is getting huge, but I'll try to get to it sooner rather than later.

See, now you went and said it.

Me and my big mouth! Thank you, Cobble, for the magic gift that keeps giving, that is Secret of the Magic Crystal. Not sure whether I should feel appalled or actually honored that I've been tagged too. Now to find another unsuspecting victim!......

Many thanks to D_Man as well for the gift of Peggle Deluxe. Unfortunately, this night was as crappy as the others. :p Ah, the joys of motherhood! A little mindless peggling will do me wonders, I bet!

Vote CK2 for the next deal! More people need to play this!

Done!

Thanks BadKen for Orcs Must Die 2! You can be my Santa-cat-shark any day.

I almost regret getting some Clancy games instead if conviction a few days ago. It may have resulted in more fun than any two games that I bought to replay

This was my first instinct, but no one on my friends list wishlisted it. Shogun had four, so I voted that way as I had no horse in that race.

Yay!

I have also been struck by The Great TuffaloBuffalo Thirty Flights of Loving barrage (and I thank him very kindly!).

I also need to thank Silly Rabbit for La Noire (and Malor for the assist). I'll never talk, Copper!

Although I have not dug into it as much as I would like (and own it already, obviously), my vote goes for Crusader Kings II.

But but but.. You sent me a friend request.. I got the DLCs on the wishlist.. (I voted CK2 to get a discount on my dlcs )

Alright, drawing is closed and the winners have been chosen. Congrats to Breander and Veloxi! They both get a copy of Sleepy Dogs!

Thanks to everyone who entered!

Just finished up the first campaign of Orcs Must Die 2 with Dr_Awkward. TONS of fun, especially with voice chat. If you don't own it, get it! At least get it when it's on sale

More and more I'm slipping on my will to hold off buying XCOM. Is the 33% off a pretty good deal for it right now or should I work my way through the rest of the pile some more?

Unless you're going to play it right now, or would be unable to hold out until there's another sale, I'd say wait.
If you're going to actually play it in the very near future, get it.

Despite being practically non-existent on the forums for the last 3+ months, and not even having checked into this thread yet, I received 3 gifts from amazing, wonderful, kind-hearted GWJers. So thank you to:

MeatMan for Bastion
GardenNinja for LIMBO
4dSwissCheese for Legend of Grimrock

You are all awesome people. I can't wait to play all of these games.

This is better cover art for the game anyway.

XCOM is good. Pros:

Modern UI.
Great graphics.
Interesting and atmospheric.
40 hours or so of gameplay.

Cons:

Lacks the depth of its famous predecessor.
Too heavily dependent on random number generation to produce difficulty, instead of strategic situations.
Suffers very badly from 'single optimal strategy' in almost every area.
Limited replayability.

The cons are things you notice after awhile... this is one that will knock your socks off for quite awhile, and then the design flaws become more apparent. The pros you will notice right away.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try and hold off a bit then.

The pile has gotten pretty big already anyway and that doesn't even include reinstalling Saints Row 3 for another play through.

Total damage halfway through the sale:

$70.01 on gifts (mostly Arkham City GOTY and Saints Row the Third)
$27.32 on the Bethesda Bundle from GamersGate (part of which I'm gifting)

Not until everyone is gifted a copy....which I have not been.

Well, if it's not on your wishlist...

Was Sparkle Pony on anyone's Wishlist?

Looking for purchase justification.

Walking Dead.

I've played EP 1 on Xbox and loved it.

I can buy the full season for $12.50 at the moment on Steam, but the other 4 episodes I want on XBLA are coming on sale in the next 12 hours. They are 200 space bucks each at the moment, but if they go on a 50% deal, they'll be less than $5 to buy the lot...

OK, writing that down, I think I can be patient, plus, cheevs.

If you loved EP 1 Clem needs you to try and finish the whole series.

Walking Dead was definitely one of my most intense story telling experiences of the year.
