Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

Very light year, this year. Good excuse to go through the pile!

Purchased:
FTL
Magic 2013 Deck Pack 2

Gifted:
Simcity 4

Received:
Legend of Grimrock

Last minute sale consideration? What's the verdict on the Witcher 2? I played the first one, but didn't finish it. Stalled out in the swamp chapter. However, I'm reading back through the thread and can't really find a consistent answer if Witcher 2 is "good". Most seem to say its different than the first, but stands on it's own?

Urgh, just realize, Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion didn't make it in the "Encore" sales..

Anno is there tho.

Now, question for the masses.

Sims3 Showtime, or Anno 2070?

I want a simulation of some sort :)

Anno! I'm having a blast with it - enough so that I picked up the DLC expansion the next day.

Seems there was a hacking incident over at Ubi, again.. http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/far-cry-3/1...

Does Anno use Uplay?

I dont either and now i feel bad.

Neither did I, until I went to: Account Details, Store Transactions.

I just searched for "from:steam" in my email.

How good is your GPU? If you have a relatively modern GPU, get it. It's worth it for just the graphics at that price. Most of us really enjoyed the game when it came out. They've improved it a ton with a tutorial and different tweaks at this point. You won't stall out like in TW1. I had the same thing happen to me twice in TW1. I finally got past the swamp on the third try and finally finished TW1. It just takes like 15-20 hours to really get into that game. That's not the case with TW2. It's not a perfect game, but it's a great game in so many ways.

I've read nothing but great things about both Witcher games

I could change that if you'd like.

Yeah, The Witcher is a bit polarising, either love it or hate it, I haven't seen many "well it was okay" opinions. I think a lot of it depends on what you want in your RPG, and some were turned off by the sexual content. Give it a quick read-up.

Yes, Anno uses it to manage DLC, for in-game rewards, and probably for some of the social features.

and some were turned off by the sexual content

I would word that, at least in the first game, as 'outright misogyny'.

That game issues trading cards based on female NPCs you have f*cked.

I do not understand why I would ever need to say anything more, or why the game remains popular.

In the 1st one, wasn't all of that optional? Is it optional in the 2nd?

Thank you dejanzie for Civilization 5.

Please tell the Persona 4 thread and the TF2 server that I love them and I'll see them again, some day. I'll remember them in my dreams.

Two words.

It's part of the "mature" content of the game. Actually comes off more juvenile, but obviously that's true, a lot of people like it.

My impression about the cards was that it was another aspect of the journal keeping track of the characters that you've met, or 'notches on the bedpost' at most. You couldn't really do anything with them, there was no gameplay behind them. The other side about Geralt being a man-slut and also being a character you play in an RPG game (so you make choices about what he does) is walking the line of what aspects of the game story the developer writes and what parts the player writes (you could probably add cutscene incompetence into that discussion too).

As someone who has played through it I just want to say its not that Bad really. The sex scenes aren't much of anything and the cards themselves just have a boob or two.

I will never understand how most games have you ending the lives of all sorts of people and creatures but throw in some boobs or sexual situations and people come out to complain.

But that's a discussion for a different thread. I just wanted to say that both the witcher and its sequal are both tame compared to most other adult media. Just a single game of thrones episode will make it seem like seseme street.

Thank you everyone for your gifts. I love this community! Another great year of Steam Christmas sales!

Quiet, you. The Witcher 2 is one of my all-time favorite games, and anyone who does not like it is an unsophisticated brute.

I feel bad for making that joke, but someone had to fall on the grenade.

Good lord, I am a whore about sharing jokes, but there is no audience in my life that will ever get that one.

The Witcher and Pokemon, together at last!

QFT I'd also like to add that collecting those notches on the bedpost is completely optional, you don't have to jump into bed with every woman who beckons. Honestly, it's just a fraction of the game and condemning it for that seems a bit of a shame.

*snicker* Wish I could argue with you, but then again, I grew up in the US, but have roots in a country which has lingerie ads at bus stops...

Back on topic! Only 13 hours left for the encore!! Gosh, it's hard to resist, must... hold... on... a few more... hours...

The gifting continues...Oh what a great bunch of people belong to this community. It's truly amazing.
