Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

Many creepy, spooky thanks to Krev (steam name, assuming it's Krev here as well) for Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
I don't know when you crazy people think I'll have time to play all these games!

Yes, DOTA2, the new hotness.

Sorry, I'm old and in my DOTAge.

My turn

Bought for myself:

Lego: LOTR (My son and I can't stop smiling when we play this.)
Dark Souls
Civ 5: Gods & Kings and the GOTY upgrade

Gifts received:

Ace of Spades (Eldon of Azure, I did not keep this game but I forwarded it to my 14 year old son who is having a blast with it!)

FTL (Veloxi, After playing for 6 hours I've killed many Goodjers with my incredibly sound judgement, not since X-COM have so many of my friends died for so little progress!)

Awesomenauts ( MaverickZY, I'll play it this weekend I swear!)

Mark of the Ninja ( Tanstaafl, Wow, this game is great! It's been a long time since I've played a 2d platformer that felt this smooth. Thanks again.)

Gift's given:

Limbo
Torchlight 2 x 3
Torchlight x 2
Civ 5
Orcs Must Die collection

Thanks for making this another great Steam sale season.

OK, time for a vote.

I have $10, left in wallet. Do I spoil myself and buy one of my 'pricier' wish list games, or do I piss off 20 Goodjers with gifts of Bad Rats?

I know which one I'm leaning towards, but I may have already damaged enough people with Sparkle Ponies in the last sale

I think this is the first Steam sale that I haven't bought anything for myself. I've been wanting to play a city builder, so if SimCity 4 comes back up, I'll buy it, otherwise I'm done.

Gifts Received:
Legend of Grimrock (thanks again to Malor)

Gifts Given:
Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Evochron Mercenary

Don't Starve is a great game, people, don't pass this up!

PS. I still have a copy of Torchlight 1 for the first non-Grinder to PM me. Everyone on my friends list already has it

I think you should treat yourself. You have been such a great gifter. Get yaself somethin nice.

The Witcher 2 requires file system support for files up to 8GB. I done a quick internet search and found out that this corresponds to requiring an NTFS file system as opposed to a FAT32. My file system is NTFS (Windows 7), but only up to 4GB, not the recommended 8GB. A lot of folks say as long as it's NTFS it's all good. Yet Steam highlights the need for support up to 8GB. If the latter is the rule, how do I go about increasing my page file support limit?

You might be confusing RAM/memory and file size support. If you have Win7 32 bit you can only access 4gb of memory, but that has nothing to do with the size of files. You should be fine playing the game as long as you have an NTFS file system.

This was an interesting sale. I bought from a few locations. Here's my damage,

Steam
Darksiders 2 DLC
Half Minute Hero
Towns
Galactic Civilizations 1
Home
LA Noire
Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes
Penny Arcade:On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness 3

Amazon
Darkness II
Dark Souls
Lego Harry/Batman - Lego Harry Potter 1-4, 5-7/Lego Batman 2
Gift - Desert to Sea Bundle - Bioshock/Bioshock2/Spec Ops

Green Man Gaming
Doom 3 BFG
Lego LOTR
Lego Batman
Gift - BL2: Season Pass

Not bad; kept under my budget and knocked out most of my wishlist.

Big thanks to Stupidhaiku for i am alive! This will be played soon ... once i figure out what i'm doing in planetside 2

Six DOTA 2 invites for whomever PMs me with their steam id community link so I can friend them up.

Thank you kindly to Prozac for Don't Starve! It was a 2 pack so there's one up for grabs!

Since totaling has begun:

For Myself:
Alpha Protocol
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Dark Souls
Resonance (completed)
Shogun 2 Complete (minus the expandalone)
Skyrim - Dawnguard
Waking Mars (already done!)

Generously Received:
Dawn of War - All of them from Peedmyself
Don't Starve from Prozac
Dustforce from Malor
Hamilton's Great Adventure from Manach
Limbo from Krev
Nexus - The Jupiter Incident from Growat
Saint's Row: The Third from rickyyo

One or two people got gifts from me, too.

That's becoming more and more of a trend with the concurrent sales. I definitely think of everything I buy at this point being part of the 'Steam Sale season' though, and they all count.

Bought for myself:
Awesomenauts
Galactic Civ Complete
The Walking Dead (via Amazon)
Dungeons of Dredmor Complete
To The Moon
BONUS: Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion + Civ 5 G+K (traded for some TF2 items I didn't know I had!)

Gifts Given:
Awesomenauts x2
Cavestory+
Hotline: Miami

Gifts Received:
Beat Hazard Complete from Mr. Superbeard

I finished up £25.84 poorer then, or just a little more than I would have paid for any one of Sins, G+K, or Walking Dead at release.

Times are good man.

Bugger, looks like Witcher 2 is ($60/$15) in my region, Japan. $7.50 would have been a great price!

Bought:
Little Inferno
Scribblenauts Unlimited (through Amazon, but still)
Gianna Sisters
FLY'N
Counter-Strike:Global Offensive
Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack
Thirty Flights of Loving

Gifts Given:
They Bleed Pixels x2
Thirty Flights of Loving x3
Home
Knights of the Old Republic
To The Moon
Bastion
Towns
Basement Collection

Gifts Received:
Home
They Bleed Pixels x2 (passed the extra copy on)
Bad Rats.

I sent a lot more gifts than I realized. Probably the most I've ever sent during a sale!

I agree with this! 20 copies is pretty funny, but it's such a turd of a game that I'd feel guilty about advising you to hand it over to the developers. Maybe I ought to develop a horrible game in time for the next sale.

I'm confused about DOTA 2. I never bought it, but the store page says "You already own Dota 2 [PLAY NOW]" It's not in my game library either. I'm guessing that's because it's Free to Play.

So what are the copies being handed out? Is it the early pack with the goodies or something else?

The question is do you feel lucky, wait, wrong question...the question is, how is your pile? Then again, you are more than welcome to stack it against mine, apparently I make people feel better for some strange reason

I also have DOTA 2 keys to give away! Huzzah!

Get 'em quick, while the players are foul-mouthed and angry!

The game is supposed to be F2P, but it's still in Limited Beta. The DOTA2 SKU that is in the store gets you in on the Beta.

That said, I had three invites I couldn't give away, and today, Valve sent me three more. So, if you want one, friend me, and I'll send one to you!

Universe Sandbox (Jarpy)
Hotline Miami (silentsod)
Lone Survivor (JillSammich)
Tropico 4 (Ahrezmendi)
FTL (Eleina) and also silentsod, which I returned so that it might go elsewhere
Assassins Creed Brotherhood (maddoc1979)

Gifts sent to GWJers
DAO: Ultimate Edition
Snapshot
Orcs Must Die 2 Complete
Home
Analogue a hate story w/ soundtrack
Shank 2
Hotline Miami

I think I'm done. I've been on autopilot for a few days.

DOTA 2 is a free to play game in limited release. Valve rakes in the cash with TF2-style lockboxes and cosmetic upgrades.

If you didn't get an invite from Valve or from someone else, you can still install the client but you won't actually be able to play, only watch other games. It's just a spectator client until you get an invite.

Apparently the sale is not quite over!

Thanks to doctre for the gift of Witcher 2: The Witchererest!

Good lord. The pile, it grows laaaaaaarger!

I'm a monster.

Thanks to Krev for hooking me up with Witcher 2! You are too kind. I've tried to pass on his generousity to a couple of other GWJers.

Over 200 posts since last night!! Yikes!!

Sooo, Torchlight 2, Terraria or Giana Sisters?... Pretty sure those all appeared in the flash sales at some point or another... Or even regular sales, wasn't the Torchlight franchise on sale like... yesterday?

You're noticing the repeats too? It's becoming pretty clear that certain games are seeing sales on a much more regular basis than others. Not just in this sale, but over all sales on Steam, including during non-seasonal times.

Hehe, you bet I noticed. Steam did this last summer as well, and perhaps during the last winter sale as well (not sure, my memory's fuzzy on that one). It's like they're trying to take our money or something!!

So, when do we start listing the damage done?

Do we really have to? I'm really scared of the final tally, I think it'll be pretty bad. But I regret nothing!! If anything, I can jutsify it by the fact that hubby didn't get me a Christmas present.

whispa wrote:

Is the Witcher worth getting or just skip to Witcher 2?

You're going to get different opinions on this issue. I actually really enjoyed Witcher, and thought it was the better game. I'm having a really hard time getting in to the Witcher 2. I'd think that both have their merits, but I certainly wouldn't skip over The Witcher just because the second installment is out.

Witcher 2 for $7.50?
Damn now I wish I hadn't got it this summer on GoG, since I've only played the tutorial so far. Oh well.

You're getting off easy! I pre-ordered it full price, and I'm still stuck in act 1!

Blue-ish, glowing and magic dripping thanks go to Eleima for the click-tastic gift of Magicka! I heard so much about this game way back when but never had time and just never got back around to looking at it. But now...I shall combine all the elements and turn them, alchemy like into awesome spells for Eleima and the Gods will be appeased!
GWJ, don't ever change

Muahahaha!!! Bring down fire, brimstone and lightning in my name!!! (I love your post, made me laugh)

I agree with Sammich, treat yourself, M0nk3yboy, you've earned it!! Plus, no one wants the gift of Bad Rats...

Many thanks to MadDoc who saw fit to spoil me with Frozen Synapse!! Definitely looking forward to seeing what everyone's talking about!!

For anyone who missed out on Dishonored, it's back up on a flash sale. Probably means it won't come back on the "best of," so get it now!

Still one more day of sales right? I have two or three games that I might pickup at the end. Only got one game so far so I'm getting of fairly light this sale. Mainly cause I own everything already.

That's what I was wondering about. Thank you.

It doesn't sound like DOTA2 is something I'm interested in. Also, like many, my pile grew too fast to keep up with. So, I'll pass on the kind offers in hopes that the keys will go to someone who uses them.

Looks like everything's showing the sale price for another 13 hours. They're supposed to do some sort of best of sale over the weekend, but I'd guess not everything will still be on sale then.
